Regarding the re-enactment, there has been a lot of criticism over the use of a computer generated re-enactment. Why? It's a re-enactment ... something that is commonly used all over the world.

I did a little more searching into this for you, Otto.
Here are some of the key issues surrounding the animation:

1. It cost $240,000. I looked up some figures for for forensic animations.

At Framework Media, the cost of creating a forensic animation can range anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000, depending upon duration and scene complexity.
http://www.frameworkmedia.com/forensic_animation_faq.aspx
A forensic animation can range widely from $3,000 to $30,000
http://www.hgexperts.com/article.asp?id=5247

So, as you can see, the $240,000 price tag is extraordinarily high. I suspect this is the main reason for the investigation.

2.
Defense lawyers said the production was based on circumstantial evidence.

The second issue appears to be with the admissibility of the video. As I argued before, these animations typically are based on forensic data, or as mentioned below, eyewitness testimony. The Perugia animation appears to be based almost entirely on Mignini's theory and not on forensics (for how could it, since Amanda and Raf left no forensic traces for the animators to base the video on).

The animator should be able to prove that the animation is based on data, reports and testimony provided to him. Also, the supplied data should be independently admissible. The forensic animation should be shown to be in agreement with witness or expert witness testimony. In many cases, the witness or expert witness is required to be a vital part of the verification process. There is very little room for the animator to be creative and “add” his own interpretation of events, as this leads to inaccuracies and inconsistencies.

Honor Bound: My Journey to Hell and Back with Amanda Knox by Raffaele Sollecito and Andrew Gumbel (Sep 18, 2012)

I can't wait to read Amanda's book. I believe it's a must read for all. Especially traveling Americans.

:snooty:Nah! I hate to disagree with you, but they're both acquitted murderesses! I can't wait until charges are re-instated against Amanda, there was more than enough evidence to convict her even without the screw-up in the lab! I won't be buying this book!

I totally agree with you. Amanda gamed the system and won, just like CA. I do not need to read a book written by her or CA for that matter.

Why? Millions of tourists travel to Italy. Do you think Italians have this huge conspiracy against Americans? Remember, Sollecito (an Italian) was implicated just as Amanda in this crime.

I will not buy the book. To me it's like buying a book written by OJ, Casey Anthony and any others who got away with murder. Won't buy Sollecito's book either.

If I had to buy a book about this horrific case, it would be one that is written by an unbiased author with the REAL facts in the case. A book written by Meredith's family would also be on my list, if they ever decided to.

It's your right to not purchase the book. jmo- I wouldn't compare murderers to Amanda. Amanda didn't kill anyone. The person responsible for killing Meredith is serving their time.

Amanda didn't get away with murder just yet. The final appeal is scheduled for next March. There are several lawyers who post at the 'True Justice for Meredith Kercher' site and they seem optimistic that the appeal will be successful for the prosecution. Dr Galati, who leads the prosecution appeal is an ex-member of the Supreme Court himself.

John Kercher, the father of Meredith did write a book about his daughter. It is called 'Meredith' and it is available on Amazon.

He's not serving enough time, IMO. Thanks to the stupidities of the original police/prosecutors he got away with presenting himself as merely an accomplice and only received 16 years.

Rudy Guede broke into that house with an intent to burglary, found someone home and escalated to rape and murder. He should have got life.

I think there's a lot of "poor innocent American abroad" crap surrounding Amanda, and she rode that wave of sympathy to freedom. I think the portrayal of her as a naive girl is a ridiculous bit of rebranding. The American public eats it up, though. It likes their women innocent, and the idea of this sweet American girl caught in the clutches of an evil, conniving Italian justice system plays well. I'm sure the book will sell well here in the US.

My opinion has always been that she and Raffaele were involved, and they left Guede, the black man, a petty thief in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong skin color, to take the fall for them.

Won't be buying it, or Sollecito's book either. :twocents:

Thanks Sherlockh. Off to purchase "Meredith" book...... :)

I stopped following this case shortly after AK was released and haven't been up to speed on the appeal process.

My sentiments, too. I agree 100%.

Good for Amanda! I can't wait to read the book.

It is AMAZING that the same debate is still going on. Hey, guys. I was in here checking to see if we had an appeal or something going on for the supreme court yet.

  • #315
I'm Italian, I've followed the case from the start.
I'm not sure you've got all the facts right in the US, in Italy we saw how she was treated as a victim from the start from some American media.
Amanda did not look like the sweet girl someone wanted us to believe.
She went shopping with her boyfriend (Raffaele) right after her "friend" Meredith got brutally killed. She accused an INNOCENT man of the crime.
Now I don't know about most people, but I would never accuse someone of a crime to save myself.
I'm sorry but I don't believe that she is all that innocent.
Our justice system might be flawed, but we don't just accuse poor innocent tourists/exchange students without a reason.
I think the book deal is a shame.

I'm not American, I'm Irish and have followed the European press on this case not the American.

She's innocent. Your very efficient court system has declared her so, and no doubt your Supreme Court will soon affirm the verdict. And no it doesn't matter whether she's a sweet girl, or whether she went shopping. If we're going to convict people on that kind of thing, we'd all be locked up.

Read Judge Hellman's report, its all very carefully laid out with evidence, logic and all absolutely correct under Italian law. Good for her if she has a book deal, I hope she manages to rake back something after losing four years of her life over a crime quite clearly committed by Rudy Guede alone.

I don't think I've said our system is perfect, I actually think we do have lots of problems. (well can't think of a country with perfect system sadly) I didn't even say she is guilty only cause she didn't appear sweet to me. I merely meant that in my opinion she is not telling the truth and wrote two examples of why she doesn't convince me. None of us can be sure of what really happened.
Not sure why the snark was needed, I just offered my point of view and experience on the matter as others did.

  • #318
There was no snark in my post, just facts. Amanda Knox has been declared innocent by an Italian court, (not just "not guilty" but factually innocent), as has Raffaele Sollecito. The judge gave a very detailed documentation of why that declaration was made. Have you read it?

Actually, you implied special experience and expertise:

I am Italian. I have followed the case from the start.

But in 2012 we get near to full access to Italian and other European media; we get complete trial transcripts and court reports. We saw the same pictures you saw and most of us saw Ms. Knox as nothing but a typical, if pretty, young woman.

Perhaps more importantly, we have the same problems Peruggia has with police intimidation and coerced testimony. No knowledgeable person on this side of the Atlantic thinks it is some sort of special "Italian" problem.

Thank you, Cappuccino.

Unbelievable how Amanda has been targeted because of cartwheels, a lime-green coat, going shopping, kissing her boyfriend, and she doesn't look like she's sweet. Wow...
