As long as we're discussing Reba McIntyre, it should be mentioned that she has had considerable success on TV and on Broadway. Not at all common for a country singer.
Nova: Now you are tlaking. But you also frogot Movies. tremors She did annie Oakley on Broadway. And her show is still on TV. She is one amazing lady. And to think how easy it would have been for her to just walk away after her Band was killed in a plane crash. An I stll think she does one of the Best National anthem I have ever heard.

I've always liked Reba; bought her albums and watched her TV show. Last night she showed no class so I'm done with that. While I don't necessarily support the Chicks, I do support their right to speak their point of view without retaliation, or is that not what the right to freedom of speech is all about?
So according to you, someone can voice their point of view about me but I can't respond with my point of view? Thats a different country than I live in or would want to live in.

Thanks, JDB! I did forget "Tremors" and I loved her in that!

I read one prediction that "Reba" may not survive on the new CW network. Michelle, yes, I think it's called "Reba." It's a pretty generic family comedy, but Reba herself is quite charming, IMHO.

Got to love what the Dixie chicks tour is being called.
The Accidents & Accusations Tour

I still think they were just invoking Reba as an artist with the widest possible country fan base. But your interpretation also makes sense (given the history) and the reference to Reba might well have been re-thought.
I agree that they probably shouldn't have named names or said something that sounded insulting to fans. But, this was basically my first take on it too. I got the impression that they were saying that they didn't want fans who just threw music in their cd player without thinking about it or people who just listened to whatever seemed to be trendy on the radio. We all know someone like this. They don't even know what radio station it is that they're listening to or who the artist is they just flip it on, then if they like it they buy it or have someone make a cd for them with the song on it. Some people really don't get into music, who sings it, the band's background, etc. That is what I figured they meant, that they wanted thoughful listeners and not just those who go with whatever is played the most on the radio.

Of course, I have no idea who Toby Keith is or what their problem was with him. So, maybe they did mean something negative by lumping Reba in with him.

O/T, but I am pretty sure Reba's show was just canceled because it has become too expensive to produce. Reba really is a class act and doesn't she have the most beautiful eyes?

So Reba can make her comment and you applaud, but the Dixie Chicks aren't allowed to speak their mind......way to go Americans!
Reba doesn't directly insult people. She was making a funny out of the insult that was dealt to HER. Instead of acting ugly or addressing the foolish remark the Chicks made, she turned it into a humorous situation. For that, I give her an A+ for a class act.

This is how I took their remark, too, LillyRush. I don't think it was a direct insult to Toby or Reba.

By the way, Nova, you can listen to the clips of the DC's new album on Amazon. It's not bad. It's kind of "pop-ish" in my opinion, but I think alot of today's "country" is. It was number one in Amazon music sales for the last couple of days... have no idea where it is today.

Who know the more I thought about her remark coming home from work.I think she was making fun of it.Reba likes to have fun and she was making jokes about some that were there last night.

I disagree the Chicks have been at it for awhile now.Everytime they open thier mouth they are spilling Vile.Again I will say like I did in a post earlier Toby refuses to even go there with them.As far as I am concern they can go POP. Like Angilque *SP also stated it was a back handed slap to country fans around the world. They are looking fo record sales.

You know I wondered if Reba would have something to say. And her rematk about all the ladies getting in the pool for Chesney . And then she pops off with I justr got my hair dried.

Oh , Reba, you are truly a jewel in Country's crown !

She is priceless ! :woohoo:

Well, I have no idea what Toby will do, or has done. But I've been a country fan for a long time, and don't feel slapped or offended. IMO, there are alot of artists that find trying to appeal to a commercial base doesn't "do it" for them. There are artists that want to create art, as a way of expressing themselves- their thoughts and their feelings. Mainstream isn't the be all and the end all. There's an awful lot of good music out there that you don't ever hear on mainstream radio.

I've never much cared about the Dixie Chicks, but this has actually sparked my interest in them. Maybe I'll hear them on NPR- right after they play Steve Earle :)

IM, our friends here finally drove me to buy the Chicks' album, my first of theirs. It's really, really good.

Maybe Natalie & Co. will be happy with their new, smaller audience: just us folks who don't mind women who speak their minds. (Sorry. Couldn't resist. :) )

I'm sure that's it, Masterj. A lot of the networks are getting pretty ruthless with longrunning shows. Once they get about 200 episodes in the can (the traditional syndication goal), it's pretty easy to save costs by canceling.

I'd love to meet him! Details, please.

The last time he came through here, his warm-up band was Allison Moorer. (Shelby Lynn's sister) She was really good, if a bit morose. They got married last summer, and I'm looking forward to some really good music coming from those two.

My favorite is F the CC. If you haven't heard it, don't listen to it when kids are within hearing range :D
Comin' Around (with EmmyLou Harris) is mine and the IrishMister's song. :)

He did do the drinking/drug thing, sober now. That's fairly common, from what I can tell! I can believe he was subdued, he's a heavy thinker. I still think it's very cool that you met him. :D

NEW YORK — Dixie Chick Emily Robison has apologized to the women of "The View" for dissing them in Time magazine.

"view" co-host Meredith Vieira read Robison's mea culpa at the top of yesterday's show.

"I wanted to write you directly to apologize for my comment in Time magazine. I attempted to explain how much we respect maverick artists like Bruce Springsteen," Robison wrote. "My intention was not to insult 'The View,' and at the time, I was truly just pulling a name out of the air."
