I bet it was family and their record label who bought all the CD's. :D That's why their shows aren't selling - how many relatives can there be to buy tickets? :innocent:

But the glee here over the (imagined) "end" of the Dixie Chicks' career is just sad. You people should be ashamed.
Why should we be ashamed? For what? Not liking them?

The venues they booked were arenas - with a capacity of 15,000. They only sold 5-6,000 at some of those venues.

Thanks for the info Jules. I can see why they'd be cancelling some shows.

Sorry, Michelle. I should have explained better what I meant; I hope I have done so now.

Take it where it belongs Nova. This isn't the political pavilion.

Dont apologize Nova, you are entitled to an opinion. I just didnt know why we should be ashamed?

ETA: you should be ashamed because you "support" the troops by defending the very warmongers who used lies to put those troops in harm's way and who did so without carrying one whit about the safety of those who give their lives to defend us. And you should be ashamed for so giddily attacking those who speak the truth.
Oh BACK UP Nova, My brother is in the army getting ready to leave for Iraq, How dare you say I should be ashamed for supporting him! :snooty:

Michelle, I certainly wasn't speaking to you personally, nor was I suggesting your brother shouldn't be supported.

Ditto. (Whether or not I think this war a righteous one detracts not one whit from the honor of your brother's sacrifice.)

No, lots of us new fans bought their CD...
Let's see...There are about 300 million people in the U.S. Of that 300 million, about 526,000 CD's were sold. So....is that's less than 2 percent of the population (and that doesn't include the liberal Canadian sales) buying the CD.

Nova - I don't want to jump to hasty conclusions, but I am beginning to suspect that you are very liberal. ;)

Absolutely, Nan, the marketplace is very fractured these days. Even American Idol, which seems so universal, only attracts 1 out of 10 viewers. Long gone are the days when 75% of the country stopped at the same time to see Lucy and Ricky's "baby."

500K in one week is only 1/6 of 1% of the population (.00167), but it's still a sales record most groups covet.

Okay, Nan. Now you've got me. ;)

I agree, and I think that their marketing strategy was pretty clever. Notice how they were on some pretty major shows the week before their CD was released (60 Minutes and LKL, to name two).

Absolutely. They were also on Letterman and on GMA all week. (I saw those appearances and they rocked!)

I hope the Tampa show isn't canceled. We've got tickets.

Anngelique, you get the feeling that their fans don't want anyone to know they're fans?? LOL Nothing like standing up to pressure! Whoda thunk it. Dixie Chicks fans stay in the closet. :D

I think a lot of the CD's were bought out of curiosity....just to see what their new CD was about. Maybe some of those who bought CD's aren't really interested in going to their concerts.

I heard their first single and its really good. Regardless of whether I agree with their politics or not, they're very very talented. Of course, I wouldn't put a dime into their pockets though!! ;)
