Anthony Family Spokesman Resigns/Is Fired *all threads merged*

The Anthonys have denied making any money off their granddaughter's disappearance.

NBC and ABC officials have admitted to paying licensing fees for photos, which they say is standard practice, though neither company would say how much or to whom they paid.

Can someone please tell me who would have the right's and item's to sell in order for there to "licensing fee's?"

Any of the family photos in their private albums are what they are referring to.

Wow...sitting back and asking myself...can he ask for a licensing fee if he doesn't own the photo's?
Or...was he entitled to ask for a licensing fee because the A's had sold the photo's to him prior to the interview?

Odd, right? You'd think that the A's would've had to sign something. I can't belive the money was just paid to LG.

That's good: Family Fued. You forgot the Protestors, the NG show, and any and all web blogs. There's an entire season right there!

How about So You Think You Can Lie or American Liar so we can all vote for our favorite liars.

Excellent!! Then after the winners are chosen we can look forward to the tour!

These reality show post from everyone are way too funny! BostonSu, they could always do a spin-off from the show and call it, "Who wants to LIE to be a Millionaire"

PERFECT!!!!!!:woohoo:

It doesn't take C&G long to start feuding with people they work with (or hire), does it?? (or maybe I should just say CA). I'm not surprised that Garrison is out of the picture now.

Yes, but did they also pay the Anthonys? Why would they sign off on this? The As would have authorized the use of the images and the conditions as someone pointed out earlier.

In the email between Cindy and NBC, she says that she and George were not paid anything. If Garrison presented himself as their agent to NBC, he could be paid directly for the licensing without their knowledge, which seems to be what happened.

I agree. Plus the craftily worded email from CA wrote, claiming that she and George hadn't received payment for their interview. Made it sound like Larry was pulling a fast one on them.

I call shenanigans!!

I don't think it's all that unusual, it happens quite often actually. NBC doesn't care who the check gets made out to, as long as they get to use the photos. Apparently NBC believed that Garrison was representing the Anthonys and that the payment to them was being funneled through him.

Thanks Sassy!
I guess I was try to point out, kinda sideways, that only the family has the ability to collect a licensing fee unless they sold the right's to someone else.

PS...we're ya bummin' yesterday while WoW was broken?

Really? That doesn't sound very professional of their accounting department imo. But yes, I can see they just want the photos to use, and LG probably set up the interview. I can see why they would do it.

LOL!! If not for WS I would have been crying over WOW being broken!

It's standard practice in the "entertainment" television business. The shows all say they don't pay for interviews, they pay for photo rights. The guests all say they weren't paid. A check is cut to a third party, usually with an agreement already in place to transfer the money to the guest. In this case, apparently, there was no agreement and the check never got any futher than Garrison.

I learned this from following the Anna Nicole Smith story.

I don't believe for one second that a major media outlet such as NBC would air the photo's without having legal permission to do so. No way they would just accept Larry's word that he owned the right's. He would have to verify that he owned them or that the family had given him documented permission to do so.
NBC is not going to expose themselves to a lawsuit because Larry said he was the agent for the A's.

Sounds like money laundering to me. It's common practice from drugs to wall street. Problem is you have to be able have some trust in your co-horts. Whats the old saying about there is no honor among ?

If that's the case, Larry's documentation proving that the Anthonys sold him the rights to the photos should be showing up in the media any second.

Me too. I remember being shocked by all this stuff but it happened in that fiasco. Could have happened here.

ETA - It did come out as "common practice" in the discussions at that time as well.

Well this certainly adds some clarification, as do the links to the correspondence. I am curious to see if Garrison will leave things at this or offer some kind of explanation.
