From this report: "Lowery's attorney filed for a protective order to keep the case sealed, however Judge Wright denied that."

I wonder if this means evidence will be released now to the media/public.

Lewis also claims that letters he has sent to his wife are being returned to sender.

Return to sender, that address unknown....every piece of mail that is sent to an inmate is opened and read before they collect it. You may not give an inmate in ADC a card that has glitter on it (drugs can be in the glitter). I would think the letters are opened and read and then she returns them. Take a hint, AL, she doesn't want you any more and you don't have POF or Craigslist to find sex. I do know there are some gay men at your prison so maybe you can get your needs met.

What's the difference between a protective order to keep the case sealed vs a gag order?

One seals docs. A gag order keeps them from speaking publicly.

Sealed documents means the court doesn't release. A gag order means none of the parties involved (defendants, attorneys, prosecutors) can talk about anything to do with the case.

AL's attorney is NOT court appointed. He is pro bono
In SC and all states, pro bono attorneys for capital murder aren't court/Judge appointed, but still take on a case with the same stipulations of a court appointed attorney, ie: the defendant can't afford one. Court ordered vs pro bono is the basically the same thing. In a capital murder case their main goal is to keep the defendant from getting the needle. The attorney has to be qualified to argue before the US Supreme Court.

Any ideas why crystals attorney would ask for this protective order?

I dont. The only thing I can think of is damning evidence they don't want getting out and tainting a potential jury pool? Im confused because I thought that an order already existed so that the records are sealed. I wonder if that is void now that the formal charges have been filed?

My understanding from CL was that AL's attorney was pro bono. He just showed up at the jail and volunteered on the case.

Sounds like AL has the right attorney. Both seem to like to run their mouths!

It's their job. When Susan Smith got life instead of the DP; Stephen Beckham who paid someone to murder his wife Vickie; and other high profile murders...they had to have DP qualified attorneys and the attorneys always keep it in the media.

They probably see it is from another prison and return them. I doubt she ever sees them.

He didn't show up because he thought AL was innocent. He/she showed up to argue the DP. IMO. God help him. He/she has their hand full with this one.

Al cockiness reminds me of a male version of Jodi A. Wouldn't surprise me if he decided to represent himself.
Yes he does. I can hear AL's "two ninjas killed her" story enacted in my mind now. I'm figuring his version will involve fictional characters from an X-Box game! [emoji1]

Oh I wasn't implying that AL is innocent or that the attorney said he was innocent. No I'm implying that his attorney showed up to be in the lime light with AL. Looks like after today's court appearance and both of them enjoying talking to the media that they are meant for each other. JMO

Could be but regardless he has to defend him, just as if he believes him. They have not even decided on DP yet. Last I understood it had been ruled unconstitutional in Arkansas, so do they even try death penalty cases while it is still be argued?

I was reading trying to find the info on Arkansas death penalty, and I ran across the list of defendants in the US that have been sentenced to death row (not just wrongly convicted but death row only) and there are 149 people that have been acquitted, or pardoned based on lack of evidence, since 1973. That seems like a lot to me. Yikes.
