I want to reiterate something I said way back in a different thread--- the police can have VERY good evidence and judges will still not sign an arrest warrant. They have to have EXTRAORDINARY evidence in order for an order to be signed. I have not a single doubt in my mind that they have very strong evidence. I do not think the police, nor a judge, would run the risk of messing this up by just randomly arresting people in such a high profile case. And, they even went so far as to say "we believe they both played an equal part in this." No one said, she went along with his lead. No one said, she found out about something and didn't report. They said she is just as evil as him. That is what was said. I tend to believe the police, who are investigating and have more knowledge than all of us put together times 100. Not to say they don't ever get it wrong, but more often than not, they have it right!!!!

Bravo.
I think she knew from the beginning.

We need to rememeber that AL told EVERYONE about his criminal history including the neighbor when he first moved in, a total stranger. Not to mention posting it all over social media, a public forum for other total strangers to read all about it. So because of that I think we'd be unduly naive to believe CL had no clue who he was in the realm of his outlaw lifestyle and who he aspired to be. Unless she were super clueless and stupid which we have heard is not the case.

So she didn't discover mid kidnapping, or mid murder; OMG, I married a felon!

The big clue will be when she found out the extent of the crimes on Beverly and what her first response was. Wish this site had a poll option! Would like to see how many think she found out that night, the next day, Sunday, or when. If she lied to TL about when she knew, which she allegedly confessed to, we know it was before Sunday. Then you have to wonder why she didn't turn him in. He was arrested Monday while attempting to flee...with his gloves...
I don't think she would have known where he was to turn him in. The LE took her phone on Sunday. Early Sunday she was called by LE, so she also knew she was being watched. IIRC the news said they only allowed her in her house for a change of clothes.

I really didn't understand the wording of what Butler was saying or asking. I mean by early Sunday when he had the wreck, she knew they were after AL. So what exactly was it she lied about? When would she have talked to AL? Maybe they had some toss phones but I bet by the time AL had his wreck and knew he was being followed that he shut his phone off. If he didn't, he was stupid. But who knows with him.

CL maybe a liar but that doesn't make her a killer. I watched every moment of all the Casey Anthony trial and going all the way back to when all that started. I believe not only was she a liar but also a killer and she has been free for three years now. One thing I do know is people are crazy. I just wish we had some idea what the evidence was. For me, it is way to early to making bets. I have seen too many cases go completely opposite from what was expected. Not that my vote would count for much anyway. Ha.

totally agree

I think she was part of the plan, whatever the plan was so yes, she knew from the beginning. It's my opinion based upon very little evidence. I feel confident with the fact that LE had what it needed to arrest her after a month of investigation. And that they bound her over to the higher court last week without downgrading her charges. I suppose they could be trying to get them to talk by charging them both, but they still had to have evidence to get that to court.

She stated Lewis texted her non-stop and at one point told her she better check her brakes before driving.

This is from an interview form 'Memphis Local' with one of AL's ex's. Shouldn't be dismissed as empty threats. Gives an interesting insight into his obsessive behavior and tendency to resort to violence, or at least threats of violence, when rejected. This is not uncommon unfortunately for that kind of guy. May not apply in Beverly's case but it's worth noting as an AL personality trait. I had a friend killed by one of those types and although he threatened many women before her, she was his first actual killing, and he claimed it was an accident...

He had a crazy side and obviously threatened violence. I think we can all agree the system really failed here. Not only should he not of been out of jail. He has either been on probation or parole for one of his crimes, since he was 17. Why was he not arrested when these women reported him? That was enough to put him back in jail. The woman in this article dated him after he got out of prison in 2013. Yet, his parole officer didn't even know about the restraining order. The system failed here big time.

Yes, that has been sad, but not proven. I have no idea if she is guilty or not. I know nothing about any of this cast of characters. But all we here on this forum have is speculation.

Well, no one knows for sure except for Beverly and Arron and Crystal. From here until forever, no matter what any court ever says. I also don't feel like I have to put a disclaimer on every comment that I make that Crystal, Arron, and every other person in jail might actually be innocent. I GEEEEEEET it. I still can discuss this case without having to be reminded of just how wrong the police just might be. As I saw in one sleuther's tagline- "The victim comes first- no matter what!". That. Beverly comes first. If anyone is in jail who shouldn't be, they will likely be let out. I'm sure she would appreciate a place to stay. For now, I feel safer that the people who make it their life's work to keep criminals off the street have acted. I'm not going to call them liars. I have this motto- I believe you until I realize I can't. As far as I know, the police have no reason to lie. As far as I can see, the other 2 are lying liar pants. Therefore, I will believe the police until I see something that makes me change my mind. In speculation, there is also logic and reasoning. Everyone is welcome to their opinions. I am welcome to mine. I don't feel the need to have to appease anyone else's opinion every time I state my own. MYYY OOOPINION OOOONLY!!!!!

The great thing about this board is we all have opinions. It just sounds like you have convicted CL solely based on public opinion and news reports and that is your right. I am holding out for facts. I don't have a horse in this race, and I do want justice for BC. You have a lot more faith in LE than I do and that is your right.

I don't know if she dated him or not, but I remember a young lady saying she was living next door to him when he lived in that Blue Trailer and IIRC texting her and watching her. She was preg at the time. I believe she had a restraining order put on him. If not he same lady then that's another and I am like you, why didn't the Parole officer know? Lots of breakdowns in this. And sadly for whatever reason, Beverly Carter paid for those breakdowns. And her family and the families of the suspects should not be having to live with this. My heart hurts for them all.

I go on facts too ... But, it took a whole month to file charges on CL.... If LE, and a judge hearing the charges are just throwing charges on her, you know how bad their butts could get sued??? I mean really... Also LE doesn't get it wrong with charges like that very often...

Thinking about the charge of Kidnapping for Ransom and/or Reward (PA when asked said it could be one or the other or both)

I feel sure had Le not been on AL so quickly there would have been a huge reward offered for Beverly's safe return..

For it to be both AL & CL would collect the ransom still keeping Beverly and somehow *find* Beverly to collect the reward...

also they could have demanded a ransom even after Beverly had died, who would know except them that she was dead??

  • #171
What kind of person in this day and age would think they could collect a ransom and get away with it?
Deranged persons.
I mean seriously.
They probably even demanded ransom from her phone.
AL has a history (and record) of deranged behavior. CL does not. My gut says she got into using methamphetamines with him. That would explain the illogical "grand plan".
For her friends who were kept in the dark, they would not be able to grasp what she is capable of because first they would have to grasp that there was a hidden side to her.
Just rambling..
To reiterate my opinions on this case:

They are both guilty as charged.
They were using drugs.
There is one other person involved.

All based on my opinion and feelings only.

NJ, I can't remember if this has been discussed before, but had CL recently lost weight? (Just wondering on the plausibility of the whole drug scenario).

  • #173
I agree that there is someone else involved. Also agree AL was on drugs. On the fence about CL.

About the whole ransom thing, maybe it actually does happen more than we think and people get away with it because of threats if LE is contacted. Yesterday I watched an episode of Locked Up and one of the prisoners was in there for killing a college student he'd kidnapped for ransom. That was his "thing." He kidnapped for ransom. That particular one went bad and cops were on his tail, and he killed the kid as they were closing in on him in some kind of car chase. He didn't specifically talk about successful kidnapping/ransoms he'd pulled off, but he definitely alluded to the fact that there were some. He also said he never kidnapped minors, but stuck to college kids because he figured their parents were wealthy if they could afford to send them to college.

Oops, meant to quote SavvyRose's most recent post with this reply!

Just curious why some defend CL but yet don't defend AL? They are both charged with the same crimes. It seems like a double standard to say she is innocent until proven guilty but not apply that same standard to AL. Is it because its harder to believe a woman could be a part of such hideous crimes? jmo

He has admitted he kidnapped Beverly.

If Im a defense attorney and my client is sitting in jail facing a trial for capitol murder and kidnapping when the evidence points to them being an accessory after the fact or aiding and embedding Id be fighting to get them out of there. I wouldnt let them sit there and face a trial. If her attorney feels her charges should be lesser he could do something about it and she would be able to bond out on lesser charges. so, why isnt that happening?

He has admitted he kidnapped Beverly.

He also said he had a co defendant named TM which LE doesnt believe. He could have been covering for someone else . We dont have any evidence he did it. (Not looking at this right now from my opinions-just the known evidence.)

NO. She is the same size she has always been.

There were pictures on her Facebook wearing shorts and sitting in a car this past summer where she was bony skinny and had bruises on her legs. Her face now and at the time of her arrest, is much more filled out than if you look at pics of her and AL or those pics from summer. IMO

Wish I had those Facebook pictures. I *believe* this was posted just before and after they got married. Her look has changed a lot.
