Thanks Tupelo.
Talk about her. If you stop for gas, ask in the gas station if there's any word. If you stop for lunch or a snack, ask the waitperson if there's been any word. If you have errands to run on a shop or store, ask the cashier if they've heard anything about Cassie Compton. No need to share your opinion or anything like that- just talk about her.
I once was in a town on vacation where there was a missing child (kind of a cold case- she'd been gone 6 months) and myself and my traveling partner noticed there seemed to be no local interest- no posters, no chatter, etc- anyway, it just so happened that part of his luggage had been lost, so we had to go to a CVS to get toiletries. There was a kid at the checkout counter, and my partner asked if there had been any word about the missing girl. He said, "Why? Are you a cop?" so my friend was like, well, no, I was just wondering, I saw it on the news awhile ago. The checkout kid said, "Not that I know of. I don't watch the news but they say at school she ran away."
Then we stopped at McDonalds to get something to eat, and I asked the girl checking us out if she'd heard if the girl had been found. She said, 'Oh no....I think she ran away, no one really blamed her either.' As we were walking away, I saw her turn around to another coworker and motion toward us (not unkindly) and say something. Couldn't hear what she said- but I do know that we put that missing child back in at least three minds that day.
Sometimes that's all you can do.
Good luck, have a safe trip, and thank you for all you've done for Cassie.
