This case just has a hold of me! I remember the day this happened. I worked less than a mile from little Jersey's house and the EZ Mart where Des worked. I remember driving by on my way to work with all of the police presence wondering what had happened. I went to work that morning and started looking on news sites to see what had happened. I don't think I got any work done that day. Jersey is the reason I ended up finding (and joining) Websleuths.

RIP Jersey, your day is coming, we will get justice for you!

I don't think the lack of coverage has anything to do with the theater killer trial. That trial is hardly dominating the news. I think it is b/c there was very little national coverage when the case happened (likely due to Jersey never been a missing child where there would be pleas, searches, press conferences, etc) so there is very minsicule recogntion, and therefore interest, of this case outside of the immediate area.

Excellent points, 'hawk! Makes good sense. Yes, this case never really did go national -- and so many times, as you said, missing-child cases do go national, for good reason. And the longer the child is missing, the bigger the case gets, as long as the reporters, searchers, and the child's family keep it on a high profile.

And if this horribleness with Jersey had to happen, at least she was she was found very quickly. LE was well on top of it. Bless her little heart.

I would love to hear it, but we certainly don't want this case overturned due to a rights violation. I'm so superstitious about talking about a conviction before one occurs -- but I'll go ahead and at least say that I think the evidence that has already been put on record should be :crossfingers: enuff to put him away one way or the other.
