AR - Josh Duggar Admits Molesting Girls As A Teenager - #2

Josh Duggar did not start his courtship with a marriage proposal. That came several months later.

Thanks. That is very unclear from the "story" they tell (jointly) of their relationship. They both were interested in one another, but neither knew the other was interested. Josh asked her dad about a courtship and he said he needed to give it some thought for a month but shortly after told Josh he had not made a final decision, but was inclined to "green light" the request. The family was due to visit the Duggars in AR shortly after Anna's birthday. Anna was excited about seeing Josh, but did not know if he was interested in her. He called her dad just BEFORE her birthday and asked to meet the family at a restaurant to surprise Anna. They did this and she WAS surprised as her family was planning to visit the Duggar family in just a few days. He had "I love you" balloons and a ring, and proposed right there. Maybe that isn't how it happened, but that is how they are telling the story now.

These people are so tone deaf. They really need to retire to a private life now.

Edited for clarity...

I tried clicking on the tab of Josh and Anna's Page entitled Family Update.... But did not find the recent media reports sharing the Family Updates of the Duggars...

Hmmmm... :waitasec:

I am gobsmacked that AFTER the first offenses occurred, JimBob said (in a speech you can find online) that pedophiles, rapists and those who commit incest should be put to death...

Slightly OT but I don't get it how this analogy works.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/krist...n-lessons-from-elizabeth-smart_b_3226971.html

Raised in a religious household, Elizabeth recounted a school teacher who urged students against premarital sex and compared women who had sex before their wedding nights to chewing gum:

I thought, "Oh my gosh, I'm that chewed up piece of gum, nobody re-chews a piece of gum. You throw it away." And that's how easy it is to feel like you no longer have worth, you no longer have value. Why would it even be worth screaming out? Why would it even make a difference if you are rescued? Your life still has no value.

If nobody rechews a piece of gum, why isn't it all over after the wedding night? I mean, nobody rechews somebody else's gum, but mostly people don't rechew their own either. So once the wifey is no longer a virgin, she is worthless and can be thrown away... But yet she's supposed to let husband rechew her whenever he feels like it.

Yeah but I don't think he thinks any of those terms apply to their family. He's dissociating between the dark side and their side. Pedophiles, rapists and those who commit incest are godless people and devil's minions. Josh didn't commit sexual assault or incest, he committed teenage mistakes, and was forgiven for them, so now it's all good as far as the Duggars are concerned.

Judging by the Duggars statements since this has been revealed they must think their show can survive this crisis. Also what kind of judge allows records destroyed when they only needed to be expunged? That stinks of political manipulation in Arkansas .. is it true the judge owes Huckabee for their entire career? They wanted this thing to stay buried, glad it didn't, but if I was from Arkansas I'd be pissed at the double standards on show from everyone involved in this mess.

I feel really badly for the victimized sisters and family friend.

Were they victimized further by the parents not validating them or what happened to them? Where did they put their feelings of violation? Did they blame themselves for what JD did? And are they blaming themselves now?

This whole situation makes me very sad for them. I can only imagine the "talks" the victims had with their parents; their feelings being swept under the rug for the almighty dollar.

It seems to me the girls knew right from wrong as they reported JD actions to the parents. So why didn't JD know right from wrong too?

JMO he knew very well it was wrong, that's why he was sneaking around while they slept at first.

The record was not destroyed to protect Josh, but to protect his youngest victim who is still a minor. This all occurred in 2003 at latest, and the youngest victim is (at most) 17. So she'd have been FIVE at the time. Sick-o.

By Gitana in previous thread:
These people teach that you must not even entertain romantic thoughts, or read romance novels or daydream about members of the opposite sex until God calls you to court someone specific. And they have zero privacy. There are always a herd of other kids in their rooms, etc. They have little opportunity to even masturbate. So what do they do with all their feelings, physical and otherwise?

ME:
They MUST have privacy, in order to maintain the dictate of modesty, yes? They are not allowed to run around in nightclothes or in a towel, or naked due to the possibility they will incite lust in their male siblings. I'd assume the girls have similarly NOT seen their brothers naked, so he clearly has time in a shower, the bathroom or in bed late at night to relieve the pressure.

By Hez in the prior thread:
I also think it is eerie how much his wife looks like his older sisters.

ME:
I have thought this for quite some time.

I really liked your comment, but I think they feel they addressed it. Having this happen doesn't change your beliefs and I would imagine you wouldn't want what one child did to affect the lives of the entire family forever. I do see how some feel they're being hypocritical.

Yeah, some of us feel they are hypocrites.

I'm actually quite sympathetic to families facing the problem of molestation and incest. I imagine it's incredibly painful and shocking. I imagine most people would be at a complete loss trying to figure out the best way to solve the problem and heal the hurts, and I expect people might make mistakes as they attempt to recover.

But, I'm very UNsympathetic to hypocrites. The parents made a deliberate and informed choice to put the children on display and profit from preaching purity while hiding a big, dark issue in their family. That is what bothers me the most.

I haven't read current threads in their entirety, so I apologize if this has been mentioned previously. I'm disgusted by everything I've hearing/reading about the Duggars and am sickened by the hypocrisy in parading their holier-than-thou family before the world while they hid their dirty little secrets :stormingmad:

That said, do these submissive wives enjoy sex, or are they nothing more than pumping posts for their demanding husbands and incubators for their familial baby booms?

I would think that the Duggars would believe that money is the root of all evil, and therefore opt not to get paid.
Where's that real smiley emoticon when you need it? lol

You're right! Odd. No, they had a log distance courtship after Josh asked permission to court Anna:
  • As a teenager, Anna says she planned to wait a while for marriage. But that changed when she met Josh at age 18. Several months later, the two began a long-distance courtship. During that time, they spent about an hour each night on conference calls with members of their family listening in. "It was really good for our hearts," says Anna, who believes a long-distance relationship helped develop their communication skills.
  • Six months later, Josh asked Anna's dad for permission to marry his daughter. After getting Mr. Keller's blessing, Josh headed down to Florida on Anna's birthday to pop the question. http://www.duggarfamilyblog.com/2013/10/recap-walk-down-memory-lane.html?m=1

Actually, the saying is the LOVE of money is the root of all evil, not money itself.

That saying gets mixed up all the time. There's nothing wrong with money - it's the love of it that is the problem, making it into a false idol.

I don't know if the love of money was the Duggar's downfall. Pride might have been their bigger weakness. IDK.

Maybe marriage automatically gives you a fresh piece of gum every day? ;-)

Sounds like a formula to accidentally marry a child molester

Well it's been a whole week, right? Surely we've all forgiven him and moved on. I bet the girls he victimized didn't even get a week.

From Josh and Anna's website -- more of the 'mistake' rhetoric:

http://ja20.com/

"If you have made mistakes, start from where you are and let God be the sole proprietor of your life… including your love life! We all make mistakes, but God looks at our heart and says that when we give him what we have left, he can take it and do great things!"

Sounds like they are spiraling... And completely out of touch. Makes me think the quote from the public relations crisis guy was probably accurate
