These people teach that you must not even entertain romantic thoughts, or read romance novels or daydream about members of the opposite sex until God calls you to court someone specific. And they have zero privacy. There are always a herd of other kids in their rooms, etc. They have little opportunity to even masturbate. So what do they do with all their feelings, physical and otherwise?

They MUST have privacy, in order to maintain the dictate of modesty, yes? They are not allowed to run around in nightclothes or in a towel, or naked due to the possibility they will incite lust in their male siblings. I'd assume the girls have similarly NOT seen their brothers naked, so he clearly has time in a shower, the bathroom or in bed late at night to relieve the pressure.

I have thought this for quite some time.

Nope. You're forgetting that they have a multitude of siblings of the same sex. No child in that family is ever alone. They share rooms and beds with their younger siblings and baths are done assembly line style. The only exception might be if they're pooping but chances are they have another sibling in the bathroom with them then as well.


Remember, the house they were in when this went on was only 2000 square feet, had only two bathrooms and I think 3 bedrooms and housed 14-16 kids. Footage of that time shows kids lined up at the bathroom banging on it and the door opening and a kid or two coming out.

I think the best they could hope for was a quick, two minute bowel movement alone. That was the extent of their privacy.

I really liked your comment, but I think they feel they addressed it. Having this happen doesn't change your beliefs and I would imagine you wouldn't want what one child did to affect the lives of the entire family forever. I do see how some feel they're being hypocritical.

Yup. They do feel they've addressed it. And you're right. They clearly framed this within their faith rather than allowing it to shake that faith.

Yeah, some of us feel they are hypocrites.

I'm actually quite sympathetic to families facing the problem of molestation and incest. I imagine it's incredibly painful and shocking. I imagine most people would be at a complete loss trying to figure out the best way to solve the problem and heal the hurts, and I expect people might make mistakes as they attempt to recover.

But, I'm very UNsympathetic to hypocrites. The parents made a deliberate and informed choice to put the children on display and profit from preaching purity while hiding a big, dark issue in their family. That is what bothers me the most.

I think letting Josh pontificate on TV about how important a spiritual example of purity he was setting for his younger siblings because he waited for the wedding to kiss Anna probably got a few of the much maligned pharisees in the Bible off the hook because they were not so bad after all.

I mean, wait, by all means, if it's important to you, but setting yourself on a pedestal for the siblings you abused because you're so pure...? Bragging on TV?

I don't see them meeting a lot of those stipulations. You'll never get Josh (or his parents or wife) to admit the enormity of what he did; and transparency??? Ha! As far as a willingness to change and repentance...I just don't see that happening.

Their show was a ministry to them. They felt they were evangelizing to the world through their example of faith and family. Which is why this thing is so doubly horrible.

I know that is their claim...but we all know better. It tires me when I read a claim like that one from a family or a group purporting that they are "taking one for the team" and being paid 90K an episode so they can share their goodness with the world.

They should have donated the money then. All of it. Puh-leeze....they love the bright shiny penny as much as the non fundamentalist folk do

Since when is it permissible to just apologize when you have committed a crime and walk back to your life? WTF.

It is against the law of the United States to sexually touch a minor, I don't care if God gives you forgiveness or not, IT'S A CRIME.

As a victim/survivor of incest, I'd like to see any of these God Fearing Christians or whatever they want to call themselves, accept an apology as "Paid in Full" to their child who's life will NEVER be the same.

"Free Pass, Child Molesters, Huckebee's gonna let you just "APOLOGIZE" or "REPENT" (whatever), and you can go on your way, just make sure you don't assault more than 5 children, a man's got to have his limits."

So, in the United States, it's permissible to molest very young children if you belong to the right Faith, the right group, and support the right politicians, and you publicly repent..............right.

My grandfather was never charged for sexually molesting me until I was 12, a powerful man in his religion. Swept under the carpet. My cousin got a standing ovation when he revealed his "inappropriate behavior" with a minor in a hot tub decades prior and asked "forgiveness" in the Utah House of Rep. OMG.

The record was not destroyed to protect Josh, but to protect his youngest victim who is still a minor. This all occurred in 2003 at latest, and the youngest victim is (at most) 17. So she'd have been FIVE at the time. Sick-o.

When does that even happen? I assume this youngest victim was one of the sisters yes, so she would have gone along with family wishes which conveniently protect her male abuser. I still think this helps Josh and his fathers political ambitions more than anyone.
