This disgusts me so much and to think that Josh designed Jessa and Ben's wedding invites makes me almost physically sick.

Gah!!

I threw up in my mouth a little when I saw a video of one of the Dugger girls' (Jenna?) marriage vows today. They had some pastor reciting the vows, and then he pronounced them husband and wife. And then, Jim Bob (who was hanging around as if a second pastor) said "And now you may kiss the bride." He, rather than the religious official empowered with reading the vows, was the one who gave the green light to physical contact.

Those poor girls.

Well, yes, of course, but hypocrisy is preaching one thing and doing another and the Duggars have been preaching Christianity and doing something else. So the two are very much intertwined.

Sure, but I don't think that sanctimony and hypocrisy are intrinsic qualities of Christianity, any more than I would think that murder is a quality of baseball if someone kills someone else with a baseball bat. The Duggars pervert something that should be a good thing.

I don't think that it is Christianity that the public or media are responding to here. Rather, it's sanctimony and hypocrisy.

This!

BBM for focus.

LOL I agree with you. This is what I was trying to say myself. Clearly unsuccessfully.

Sorta OT but kinda OnT...lots and lots of wars, millions killed for religious beliefs.

See this bothers me. So Christians should just not do anything to try and serve the world? Why are all Christians lumped together. To be a Christian is not to be someone perfect or without blemish or flaws.. IT is a person that loves God and wants to serve him in their life. I believe that everyone should be able to do anything. I would never pick a group and say.. all ______ should not be politicians or cops, or judges or anything. Because that is prejudice. Judge each person on THEIR merits. Not a group as a whole.
People make mistakes. ( not talking about Josh here) but in general. I get so irritated when people start lumping all Christians in one group with some who may be louder and meaner than others. JMO

Totally understand this. I think what some (for sure myself) is saying is... you have the right to believe what you want. Please don't impose it on me though. And that in its very essence is tricky. For example I was going to say "believe what you want as long as it doesn't harm" but who is the judge on what is actual harm? So its a fine line for sure. I'm not sure anyone has the answers.

I'll watch. I think the problem I have is that the world is so all or nothing. I think there is more than one issue here and more than one way of looking at it.

What Josh did was wrong. There is no way around that.. Do I feel that the culture of raising your kids that it is wrong to have any sexual impulses contributed to this? Yes.

For me this was a crime of his childhood. Not an adult. I believe that people can change from their childhood.

I don't agree with this whole family. I don't agree with a lot of their doctrine.
I think that even good families can have bad things happen and people that make bad choices. I know many families where all the kids were raised the same and one just found his way to trouble.

I don't know how I feel about the whole thing yet. The fact that they covered it up from the world doesn't bother me. As a juvenile he was afforded that protection and the record should have been destroyed and expunged. We are only finding out because of a clerk mistake.
He was never charged and there was never any proof of any other crimes.
I don't know. I just don't.
I am looking at this as a legal issue at the moment.

I am curious to see what they say but I have to tell you I did find it refreshing to see them all take responsibility and not try and shirk what happened.

Mistakes was too small a word. It was horrible. I am not negating that at all. But he was a juvenile when he committed the acts. That changes things. Today, If he did it string him up.. I am right there to find him guilty and send him to prison but he was 14 yr old kid then. STILL WRONG. Not saying it wasn't. But I can not help but feel that his environment led to this. A suppression of natural sexual urges and no outlet and no real education....

I think the other thing that bothers me is that the people who are hurt the most in this is the victims. The ones who most likely never wanted this known.

I am not cutting his family slack.

That's fair. I agree with a lot of what you've said.

However, is it possible to stop offending and being a predator when continuing to live in that same environment? Without real treatment?

Also, the context of the cover up is scary. It wasn't a cover up within a sealed juvenile case. It was a cover up that lasted four years - 1 during the span of reported sexual assaults, during which the parents did not get help for their son or daughters. And it was a cover up that was at the expense of the daughters. He never got help and so remained a danger and neither did the girls, apparently. Even their church recommended therapeutic treatment.

Interesting that they "home church" now. All the better to hide from those who may report.

If you think I am sticking up for him, I am not. I don't think what he did was excusable. I am looking at what could make a 14 yr old act in this way and look at reasons for the abuse.

If he was a man when he did it, I know I would have different feelings but knowing how he grew up, and what his exposure most likely was to good sexual information and teachings, I do have to wonder if other things are at play here.

14 year olds can be charged either as adults or juveniles.

I don't know what counseling they had or didn't. All we know is what was reported to the media not the whole truth most likely.
They did not come out and try to sugar coat it or make it seem false or like it was not bad. They admitted that it was true. That is more than most do these days.
I just am not sure what people want from this. He was 14 and committed a horrible act but so far nothing since then. And the statute of limitations is run out for anything from the past. The victims have forgiven him. He has moved on.. Granted, He has not made it easier for himself trying to be the moral compass for people but I see that often.
People who are "reformed" often are the worst finger pointers.

I am still weighing all this out. I just don't know what people want from here. He lost his job, the family lost the show, There are no charges to be had and I will bet a million dollars when this came out people went searching for things that could have happened any time in the last 10 years.

The mother reported that he did not get actual counseling with a trained professional. Knowing what I know about their perceptions of sin and how sex or domestic violence abuse victims are treated within that culture, I believe there is no way they would use a professional therapist unless forced.

They would have had to have forgiven him in the present to have him be part of their lives. I don't think anyone else can say who should get or give forgiveness. None of us were hurt so that is up to those injured but it seems to me the forgiveness is current. People do horrible awful things and still are forgiven. Forgiveness is powerful for those who believe in it. I will never forget over the years pictures of families of murdered loved ones showing forgiveness for the person who killed their child or for the families of that murderer.

It is quite powerful. However, in their culture, keeping sweet and always remaining cheerful and forgiving are required. So we can never know if those smiles are it a facade.

Fox is implying that the FOIA was improperly released. Josh was 18 when the investigation started and legally an adult. This is not hard imvho-what is difficult is the continued focus on his rights being violated even in the face of his statement confessing to his crimes.

In Massachusetts, I am watching with interest a case where a teen has been charged with involuntary manslaughter for facilitating a suicide. She was 17 when she committed the crime, but her appearances, hearings and eventual trial are not sealed because she was an adult when the grand jury indicted her.

Duggar family pastor says Caitlyn Jenner no longer an American champion because of gender transition...but that God can forgive Josh's molester past

Yawn. Did everyone catch Mike Huckabee's "transgender" joke from February that is making the rounds today? Funny how he and Michelle voice the same concerns about children and bathrooms.

Umm-are you kidding me? Here is my question for the Fox interview-Michelle are your kids and their friends more likely to be molested by Josh while in their own home or a transgender male/female in a public restroom? Evidence of Josh molesting children: check. Evidence of transgender people molesting children in a public restroom: ?

Good point here. He's a criminal. He doesn't have the rights to privacy he did before the crime. If he did then wouldn't every single person with child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 on their computer be able to claim the same thing about their rights being violated. He's a CRIMINAL who did not get CAUGHT ! End of !

Josh Duggar confessed to his father Jim Bob Duggar on THREE separate occasions to multiple acts of sexual molestation against his sisters and a family friend, according to a new police report obtained exclusively by In Touch magazine.

The document also makes clear that Josh was 15 years old when he molested his 5-year-old sister and committed at least SEVEN acts of sexual molestation

The new report is from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and was obtained by In Touch using the Freedom of Information Act. In Touch broke the story about Josh’s dark past and previously obtained and published a Springdale Police Department report about the molestations, also by using FOIA.

With fewer redactions than the first report, the Washington County Sheriff’s document makes it clear that despite Josh’s chilling confessions the Duggars waited at least 16 months before contacting authorities about the molestations, even though the behavior was continuing and growing worse.

I can answer the Huckabee question-yes he is still running although I think some ambitious journalists might make that an impossibility given his affiliation with people attracted to children. jmvho

LINK HERE to his transgender "joke"

Kudos to Huffington Post for the most pointed response to his viewpoint...feel free to insert Josh (possibly Michelle) into this article as their view points are interchangeable.

"What Huckabee doesn't seem to understand, but any law enforcement officer or educator can tell you, is that allowing folks to use restrooms that match their gender identities doesn't change the laws that govern appropriate bathroom behavior," Hartman said in an e-mail. "If someone is seeking to sexually exploit others--as Huckabee suggests he might have tried in high school--they will be dealt with by the proper authorities."

Stand by for the destruction of this report. It was good In Touch led with Springdale. This report is more specific and far more damning and the timing of the release is perfect imvho.

As for the inaction...I have to take a break. This child was crying out for help and felt emboldened or something by his parents inaction.

BUT-these girls must have felt so violated.

gitana1, you have a great handle on this kind of cult-what about the husbands of the two women who recently got married? Are the girls considered spoiled if they were victims? Can the husbands use this as a platform to have their marriages annulled if they were so inclined?
