Now I am praying that InTouch has some memos that support our guess that TLC was in the know the entire time.

When Radar Online contacted Derick Dillard via his Walmart account on June 9, 2015 an auto-reply revealed that he has left the company.

“I have recently accepted a position outside of Walmart and am no longer working for the company,” Dillard’s email said.

And... Unfortunately... Megan Kelly didn't "do her journalist homework", and/or ignored much of the background true information, and/or just let the Duggars guide the interview...

:stormingmad:

Note: I am actually a fan of MK when it comes to many of her other interviews... But I am very, very disappointed in her loss of ethics in this case...

JMO

I expected no less. Megan Kelly is hair and makeup, just like Faux News likes 'em.

She is without principle. I knew she would softball it and bury her nose in fundie hiney.

Thanks for being so predictable, Megan.

Very professional.

Too bad the gravy train just derailed and now it's resumé time again. Only, you are a Duggar by marriage, so, yeah, .......gambled and lost.

Oh, wait, isn't gambling a fundie sin?

As much as I am super disappointed in the way MK conducted the interview I am pretty sure the Duggars set up some prerequisites before agreeing to do it and if she had strayed, they would have walked. This is a highly controlled public relations campaign by this family and they're not going to allow anyone to 'paint' the story any other way than the way the Duggars and their lawyers want it done. Period ! It was their way or the highway and MK wanted the interview so she did it their way . My opinion only but I'm sure we can all agree it's pretty close to accurate ;)

Good points... the interview was a Duggar driven "My way... Or the highway"....

Except that MK stated she got the scoop with the understanding that she would be her "usual, hardball, tough questions" self, you know, that her awesome rep is based upon.

So, if MK agreed to some toned-down, pre-approved questions.......poof goes whatever crap credibility MK had left.

And good riddance.

At least 5 minor girls still live there by my count.

Isn't it 7? There are 9 girls total and 2 have married. Janna, Jinger, Joy-Anna, Johanna, Josie, Jordyn and Jennifer, I think.

Right, but the poster was asking about minor children; 2 of those still at home are adults.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar under investigation after 'they REFUSE to allow human services worker to check on the welfare of minor child in their home'

I've had it with these 'parents', and I use that term loosely. :gaah:
If you have nothing to hide...........

Maybe some of the younger children are sensing a way out of this ? That is, if one of them called DHS , asking for help.
It's chilling to think that the facade of a "big, happy family" could be hiding more abuse. Certainly I think those kids are being controlled. What if they're being punished too harshly ; and one of the kids called on May 27, asking to be taken out of the home ?
Might the social worker have been trying to respond to reports of bruises ? All of that modest clothing can conceal marks.
Sounds far fetched , but there are some who know how to put bruises where they won't show.

In my opinion, this just gets worse.

The more I learn about this family, and the more I think about it within the context of their hate for gays, transgenders, etc., the more I fear my head will just explode with rage.

And on a random topic: didn't any of them (not just the Duggars, but others of their ilk) ever have enough critical thinking skills to wonder whether a never-married man who claimed to be a virgin (Gothard) might not have been the very best person to take child-rearing/marriage advice from?

SMH to try to keep it from exploding.

ETA: And worse: these creeps are sucked up to by presidential candidates hoping for their endorsement?

Sometimes I really wish Canada was warmer. Or the UK less expensive.

Duggars' scandal reminds us what we see on TV isn't real
http://www.freep.com/story/entertainment/television/2015/06/10/duggars-reality-tv-real/71001854/

Here we go again.

Millions of Americans are shocked — shocked — to learn that the family showcased by a popular reality show is dysfunctional in ways outside the boundaries of the program's carefully scripted choice of dysfunction.

We are, one more time, a nation betrayed.

http://www.salon.com/2015/06/09/can_i_ever_forgive_the_josh_duggar_in_my_life/

Can I ever forgive the Josh Duggar in my life?
Anonymous

Jessa insisted her parents did everything right. And maybe, like Jill and Jessa insisted in their interview with Kelly, nothing bad really did happen and they never carried any real shame for it because, as Jessa pointed out, Josh was very subtle about the inappropriate touching, even when the girls were awake, so it’s not like they were living in a house of horrors. She insisted it was so far in the past it was over. I remember my mother said the same thing. “He’s not hurting you anymore,” she’d said. “It’s all over.” As if that were some kind of comfort.

Nevertheless, as I watched the Duggar girls talk to Kelly, I decided to believe them. They must be allowed to characterize the experience for themselves, and if they agree to let their abuser define it in order to put it behind them, that’s their right. I’m a bit envious. Frankly, I’m tired of my truth. My body is heavy with it. I want to heave it up over the side of this ocean liner and dump it into the deep seas of amnesia. Watching Jill and Jessa, I long for that. I have no idea if there is more to their story. I simply wish for what they have, the ability to live lightly.

In a few days, the Duggars will recede into the background of popular culture, just another casualty in our fascination with sex abuse scandals, which has been going on as long as sex has been taboo. However, Jill, Jessa and the rest of Josh’s victims won’t be the same. They’ll talk about how God has brought them closer as a family, and closer to him. They’ll believe it, for the most part. But if Jill and Jessa are anything like me, then in the recesses of their psyches, a long smoldering fuse has sparked to life and there is no moving on. Abuse of any kind, particularly this kind, boomerangs back and the more we work to suppress it, the stronger it becomes. It must be integrated. So it’s not in the past. It never will be again. Because forgiveness is not a one-time act, not in these matters. It’s an ongoing battle. Otherwise, it’s not really forgiveness. It’s denial.

It was only when the family was set to make an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2006 that someone reached out to producers and informed them of these prior incidents, leading those producers to contact authorities and notify them of what they had been told by this individual through email.

According to TMZ, the Harpo staff received the email at 7:30am and contacted authorities right away on December 7.

Police then called Michelle and Jim Bob at 1:17pm telling them they needed to bring their son in for questioning.

Winfrey meanwhile cancelled the planned interview immediately and sent the family home.

This sequence of events has many wondering how TLC and Discovery Health could have been unaware of the molestation claims. Oprah had the biggest talk show in the country at the time, and no doubt it took a lot of work to book the family on her show.

The network would have been thrilled at the publicity such an appearance would generate for their show. No doubt network executives would have demanded an explanation as to why the interview was cancelled at the last minute.

If I remember the documents correctly, there was an incident in Fayetteville. Perhaps that's the non-family member.

( I don't actually vote any more, but if I did ;) )

snipped for focus

O/T

Hey Schmae, I don't mean to call you out or anything, "live and let live" is my motto, but any time I hear this I have to respond with this:

As long as I have enough strength in my body to crawl to the polls, I will NEVER not exercise my right to vote.

Too many men and women have sacrificed their lives for our freedoms including the right to vote, which so many people over the world do not have.

And what the suffragists went through to gain women's right to vote, OMG. Jailed and force-fed with tubes stuck down their throats to end their hunger strikes. They were so courageous.

All those ahead of me made so many sacrifices, including their lives, so that I have the privilege of the vote. I feel not voting dishonors those sacrifices.

Even when I know it's a lost cause, like when I voted for Michael Dukakis.

Sorry if this is too OT, but there are reasons to prefer a midwife and/or home births that have nothing to do with religion, money, or going off the radar (though I imagine the Duggars' reasons are included on that list).

I chose a midwife and birthing center to bring my son into the world because I don't believe giving birth (in normal circumstances) is a medical event. If I'd had another child I would have chosen to go the one step further and give birth at home.

ETA: about Duggar midwifery. Just read Gawker article about this sect's notions of midwifery. Lunacy. "Midwives" tell stories of slow labor that is hastened by the midwive's search through the house for works of the devil, and finding then burning......Cabbage Patch dolls.

Positively medieval. I'm surprised they don't burn daughters at the stake and think the world flat.
No, no, I realize there are lots of reasons women feel more comfortable giving birth at home. I was mom to two very high risk babies so mandatory, early C-sections. ;) I was specifically referencing one of the primary drivers for women with a lot of children - it might not be the initial motivating factor but it would be a necessity, when having so many children, to limit medical expenses as much as possible. There's a lot of pressure on these women too to do things 'right' despite sometimes even safety.

The Duggars aren't living the life of most P/QF families - those families are forced (though use of this word can be argued) to endure sometime incredible hardships out of necessity when there are lots of little mouths to feed. A case in point is them doing stuff like buying ready-made frozen food. I don't really care what they buy but the majority of P/QF families don't have that buying power and will spend much of their time ensuring food sources - livestock, crops, canning, etc. Most don't have access to an in-house laundromat. It's a hard, hard life.

And, just as an aside, there's probably no P/QF family better equipped to leave this movement than the Duggars - not only did they have income independent from the movement but they also had a lot of interaction with the secular world. So, while I often find the folks who follow P/QF victims, sometimes of their own making, but victims nonetheless, I have a really hard time extending that to Michelle and Jim Bob. Their children of course are another matter.

It's interesting that someone called DHS on the Duggars in Arkansas, it had to be someone from the inside calling. Otherwise, why would an anonymous caller call Arkansas DHS on the Duggars and not on Josh and his kids in MD (in addition to) - or are J&A staying there in the Duggar compound.

I'm loving how the Duggars just keep digging that hole deeper. They could have cooperated with DHS and no one would have known. But no, they had to be paranoid **cks and force the investigator to call 911, thereby creating a record that's obtainable through FOIA.

With continued reports of thwarted CPS visits...

I can't help but wonder, too, if there is some type of physical abuse going on...

and that can be hidden so well by the "required" type of Dugger clothing...

I just lost all respect for Jill and Jessa too, in their interview they swore up and down that DHS commended Jim Bob and Michelle for their handling of the (what we now learned is the original) DHS situation. They failed to mention that DHS showed up a week earlier to the filiming of the interview and they refused DHS access whereby the police had to be called.

They also swore that there were no other skeletons in their closet. All these two care about is either keeping 19Kids on the air or getting a spin-off. I never want to see them on TV again.

TLC, what is taking you so long to cancel these criminals, liars and hypocrites!?!!?

The 911 call was played on the today show today!! I can't find it on the web yet, it just happened this morning. This is what I found so far.

Police in Arkansas were called to the home of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar after they reportedly refused to cooperate in a child welfare investigation.

According to a report published by In Touch magazine on Wednesday, a representative from the Washington County office of the Arkansas Department of Human Services contacted 911 on May 27.

The magazine obtained a transcript of the 911 call through the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act.

“We have an investigation and I guess they’re not being cooperative,” the DHS representative told the 911 dispatcher. “We have to see the child to make sure the child is all right. So we just need police assistance.”
