The Weather Channel used to be that - weather - 24/7. Now TWC has live weather coverage a few hours per day unless there is major storm coverage. The rest of the time, there is silly reality-type programming. What a waste!

LOL I'm in Mich, too. With Dish I only get my weather from TOLEDO local stations. No Detroit, no Lansing. LOL....Please alert me if a tornado is heading my way!!! JK

Would the D family have been within their rights not to allow entry without a warrant or probable cause?

Yes, under the 4th amendment they don't have to let them in.

Wouldn't the "5 year old" be the only minor still a minor (from the molestation allegations) still under the Duggar roof? The In Touch report indicated that DHS was trying to investigate the welfare of the minor. But supposedly the 5 yr old was the one who recalled the book reading ploy by Josh. So DHS must have been aware at that time, and "investigated", the result being a gold star for the Duggars .....so what minor were they checking on THIS time????? Very confused. JMO

Yes, it's definitely confusing. IMO if the DHS visit was in relation to the 2006 investigation the Duggar family had an opportunity to say during their interviews that they were recently checked on and found to be adequately caring for their children. And, you know, complimented once again on their *amazing* parenting.

That they said nothing - and refused DHS access to the minor - suggests this visit was due to a new, unrelated report. JMO of course.

It could be an unrelated minor child with a bruised butt from getting hit with a rod , for all we know.

That's not entirely true. DHS can check on the welfare of a child or enter the hme with a court order (not the same as a warrant.) If they had a court order, the cops could arrest the parents for not allowing DHS to investigate. The fact that the cops were called, leads me to believe they had a court order.

It's interesting that someone called DHS on the Duggars in Arkansas, it had to be someone from the inside calling. Otherwise, why would an anonymous caller call Arkansas DHS on the Duggars and not on Josh and his kids in MD (in addition to) - or are J&A staying there in the Duggar compound.

I'm loving how the Duggars just keep digging that hole deeper. They could have cooperated with DHS and no one would have known. But no, they had to be paranoid **cks and force the investigator to call 911, thereby creating a record that's obtainable through FOIA.
BBM - Which they will say (with the help of Fox News) was illegally leaked.

TLC was originally known as The Learning Channel and provided interesting educational programming to that end. Now they're simply called TLC that suggests the term of endearment - Tender Loving Care. In the case of the Duggars and Honey Boo Boo, TLC sure has taken on a whole new meaning ;)

We call TLC 'The Lifestyle Channel' here .. It's not that in the states?

In my State CPS does not have authority to take a child into foster care, only LEO or a court order. CPS does have a responsibility to investigate allegations of child abuse/neglect and often will call LEO for assistance or when parents refuse to comply or there is reason to believe the child caretakers might be violent or dangerous toward the workers. If a parent or caretaker is hindering the investigation, LEO is often called to assist. Bruises heal, marks fade, children are coached to not tell the truth, families flee, and timelines are imperative to the investigation as well as protection of the child victims.

The Duggars have infants, toddlers, adolescents and teens in their home. This latest allegation may not have anything to do with Josh. It is not like these parents have been cooperative with any investigations by authorities in the past, I don't expect that to change anytime soon. (Don't talk to the man behind the curtain!)

I used to love TLC (especially Trading Spaces). Now I call it The Lurid Channel. All you have to do is click on the link and you'll understand why (although I have nothing against the Little Couple). I guess all those paychecks made sharing a network with shows like Buying Naked and Sex Sent Me to the ER, more palatable to the Duggars.

It could also be related to this:

My cousins husband used to work at the Duggar production as well. He has many, many, stories about this family, but one that particularly strikes me as terrible is when one of the older Duggar Boys was caught playing with himself. He said that one of his brothers had told on him for being in the bathroom for a few hours one night, worried that he was sick. Well to see if he really was, Jim Bob walked in. He caught him doing it, and on one of the day’s the cameras were filming. Jim bobs screams made the crew run to where they were filming. Immediately they asked him what was wrong. All Jim Could reply was “idle hands are the devils playthings.” Apparently, the whole next day he was supposed to do chores around the house. But, Jim Bob had tied his hands together so that doing anything was nearly impossible. ...

I just read a blog by a survivor of the P/QF movement that's sort of related - she calls the Duggars out on their hypocrisy and includes a chart of normal psycho-sexual development. Masturbation in private - totally normal. Sexual interest in younger children? Not so much.

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/lovejo...k-hypocrisy-of-the-duggar-excuse-machine.html

And another, documenting the people related peripherally to the Duggars who have been publicly accused of inappropriate behaviors with young girls, if not much worse.

Thank you BK for these links. Brilliant articles!

OT I just got back from visitng London and Ireland. What an amazing experience! I only wish I could have spent more time, and that I didn't pick up a horrible sickness that has plagued me for nearly a month.

All I know is what she says in that link. Sounds like an actual school to me. :dunno:
Shouldn't be a problem for any one of them to take a GED. They may even get diplomas.
I don't know how the Duggar's do it. I haven't ever looked into it.

Given the interest in midwifery by women with young families, the distance delivery combined with monthly seminars seems the most logical way for a student to complete the theoretical side of her education. Apprenticeships, which is what her assistant position really is, IMO, used to be a common method of training in many professions. Now, employers tend to prefer that employees do that in post-secondary institutions. So, Jill, it seems, is doing a demanding juggling of academic and practical education requirements as well as the demands of her children, husband, and family.

In the case of the Mercy In Action College of Midwifery, the organization claims that it prepares students to take nationally recognized exams. It, itself, is not a certificate granting body.
Mercy In Action College of Midwifery is a comprehensive three year education program for aspiring Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs). This training qualifies the graduate to sit for the North American Registry of Midwives national board exam to become a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). In addition, the graduate will be prepared for service domestically or internationally as a Skilled Birth Attendant duly educated and credentialed in the USA, able to conduct normal deliveries in homes or birth centers, and provide for all aspects of maternity care, including the timely provision of emergency care and transferal should it become necessary.

I'd be interested to hear what Joypath or K_Z have to say about distance learning programs in the field of midwifery.

I agree, but according to the fourth amendment, you also do not have to stop and acquiesce when a LEO says "stop". Or "get your a** down, while you are already seated.

And yet LE is afforded not only that power via the public opinion, but persons exercising their fourth amendment rights by refusing to obey unfounded demands by LE are blamed for the police commiting acts of brutality. "They did not obey the cop's orders".

Well, they do not have to, under the 4th amendment.

Lots of support for that second amendment, not so much for that fourth. Sort of a cafeteria plan on freedoms.

In the criminal law realm, Fourth Amendment "search and seizure" protections extend to:

A law enforcement officer's physical apprehension or "seizure" of a person, by way of a stop or arrest; and
Police searches of places and items in which an individual has a legitimate expectation of privacy -- his or her person, clothing, purse, luggage, vehicle, house, apartment, hotel room, and place of business, to name a few examples.
