I was able to say, "Yes" knowing who Josh really is - someone who had gone down a wrong path and had humbled himself before God and those whom he had offended. Someone who had received the help needed to change the direction of his life and do what is right. I want to say thank you to those who took time over a decade ago to help Josh in a time of crisis. Oh, no, there's so much more, if it's like any of the similar-sounding stuff I got as a youth. You have to talk about all the ways you can be tempted...even things you never even were tempted by before are suddenly very tempting. Also you had to learn things like don't give back rubs don't lay down near each other don't be in a bedroom together don't go swimming together if you're going to wear swimsuits and it's going to be sexy, we weren't supposed to date until 16 and then only group date until about 18. I think that's to encourage orgies? LOL seriously though for people who don't want you to have sex some groups sure do talk about sex a lot. A LOT. IMO.

Sounds like how I was raised. We could go swimming as long as there were adults with us and the girls were wearing long t shirts over top of their one piece bathing suits. But my parents (their religion) was a lot stricter when it came to NO make up at all, NO ear piercings at all, NO jewelry at all. As soon as I turned 19 I went and got my ears pierced before I went to work one day. I wore makeup at 18 without my mom saying anything about it. But I also "went wild" as soon as I turned 19.

As did I. Not uncommon, unfortunately. I was not well prepared for the real world, and it showed! I was the youngest of a bunch of kids, not nineteen thank goodness and I think my parents were worn down by the time I finally got to be a teenager. Besides, I had plenty of other adults lecturing me constantly, so they let them pick up the slack, I guess.

When sex is so forbidden, it's easy to become obsessed with it because it's so taboo. And there is a lot of kind of obsessing about it. At least in my experience. For example as a young child I was frequently asked things like "have you let the let any boys touch you?" Now that's wrong on a bunch of levels because I didn't care about boys yet. I certainly didn't have boys trying to touch me and I didn't want them to and the whole thing just creeped me out and see how all of it was put on me--did you let them, not did they try, not have they forced you, it's did you let them.

So when you are told back rubs lead to sex, suddenly back rubs are "foreplay." You are on The alert for anything sexual which has the impact of making you very aware of anything remotely sexual so you can avoid it and also makes you see the sexual side of everything if that makes sense.


The very act of trying to avoid sexuality makes one hyper aware of sexuality.
