When will the Duggar family (etal) realize that society is calling out "The Emperor has no clothes"? They have put their lives on display (in exchange for mega $) Everywhere they leak is caught in a bucket and they will be held accountable for their actions - not just their "Pollyanna" thinking and words. They brought this on themselves - not the media who are just the messengers. I think it would be best to quietly go off with their tail between their legs, resign from proselytizing, pontificating, and any further "public service announcements" with their "holier than Thou" attitudes. IMO

I posted some info in Arkansas and direct entry midwifery a while back.

Here is the Arkansas Dept of Health website with infor on direct entry midwives:

http://www.healthy.arkansas.gov/programsServices/familyHealth/WomensHealth/Pages/LayMidwifery.aspx

There are only 26 licensed lay midwives in AR (no Duggars among them):

http://www.healthy.arkansas.gov/pro...omensHealth/Documents/LicensedLayMidwives.pdf

There are currently 18 registered apprentice lay midwives. Jill Duggar is no longer listed, but was listed until around Jan/ Feb of this year. Her permit has expired.

http://www.healthy.arkansas.gov/pro...alth/Documents/LicensedMidwifeApprentices.pdf

The program of study that Jill is/ was completing is very likely a NARM Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) certification program. Of the handful of states that license lay midwives, most require a NARM approved program. However, there are MANY women in fundamentalist religious communities who self-identify as "midwives" who are not formally trained, nationally certified, or state licensed in lay midwifery. (Actually, many fundamentalists eschew all interaction with government, so this is not surprising that they do not seek state licensure where available.)

http://mana.org/about-midwives/become-a-midwife

http://narm.org/

Of note, lay midwives and certified professional midwives are typically the only midwives that provide home birth services. Certified Nurse Midwives (educated at the masters or doctoral level in traditional universities, and dually licensed as RNs and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses) typically do not do *planned* home births because of the prohibitive language in state nursing laws, and the inability to get malpractice insurance for that setting. They practice in hospitals and free standing birthing centers.

Traditional midwives and certified professional midwives cannot get any malpractice insurance for their home birthing practice. They also cannot get privileges to practice in birthing centers or hospitals, but often accompany their patients to the ER if there are complications in labor. Some will also work in a type of partnership with a local family or OB doc to refer a patient to have prenatal labs and testing done when indicated, and will consider that doc to be their referral source if there are emergency labor complications at home, or a planned C-section is indicated. Once at a hospital in a transfer situation, the lay midwife is not permitted to do any patient care, though most remain as a support person for the laboring woman, if the hospital will permit their presence in treatment areas. (And that varies from place to place.)

*Full disclosure-- I teach OB anesthesia in 2 graduate programs, and I have also personally used a certified professional midwife for homebirth. :)

So...you have a new baby, and you quit your corporate job? And head off, with your newborn son, to a country that has been all but decimated by earthquakes, which could strike again, at any time. That makes a lot of sense.

It's called GTFO and it works well for a lot of folks 'in flight' ;)

That's what I'm wondering, but it does seem just recently? If Anna would want to leave, it seems her family has members that aren't overboard like the Duggars, and maybe could live with one of them. But at the same time I realize there are people that no matter what will grin and bare it, regardless of the situation in the marriage. Their kids are awfully cute, and seem spunky, maybe Anna and Josh are not as strict in raising them, or that is my wishful thinking? With all that stress, and moving, I hope Anna doesn't run into complications with this pregnancy. I'm stuck on the video that showed Anna and Josh's engagement, she seemed so giddy and childlike, I have to wonder if she was even remotely ready for all that, or was she thrown into it by family? Want to add, I also have learned so much from this discussion, things I never knew existed. And how many people have gone through traumatic childhoods, there are words I would like to say, but have no idea how to.

BBM It's real and it's ridiculous and I think unless you can see it from the inside, it will never make sense. This type of upbringing , even with NO molestation, is incredibly damaging to people. The long term psyche scars are deep and unforgiving, pun intended. I was speaking with my therapist ( i know, i know :( ) a couple of years back about it and she was floored. She said so many patients use their faith as a big comfort during traumatic times and she had no idea that there were so many people traumatized BY their faith . So when that is the trauma, how can you rely on it to heal? I sent her a few youtube videos of some old films from my childhood we were made to watched and she actually cried at how horrible it was. I also used to be so offended by terms like " crazy Christians'' or " Jesus freaks' but now that I'm grown and can look back , I can clearly see why they think that. Were it not for folks like Duggar and any other ' Christians' doing ridiculous things, that term ' crazy Christian' would not exist. So do we get offended by it? Or do we try to be better ' HUMANS" so no one cares what religion we are ? So, add some molesting/ incest and then claim that molesting/ incest is not an issue that should be discussed because you're ok with God and you're really sending the entire Christian faith into an unfair spotlight.
Again, and I know I said this many days ago, not all Christians are Duggars. Please know that !!!

ETA But we may all be half crazy :loveyou:

So that 911 call explains the rumor I couldn't verify that came across my Fb news feed that there were LE at the Duggar compound.

Oh, I know this, I grew up being raised and having known many Christians that I would never call crazy or any other name. I have a lot of baggage from things that happened to me in the schools I was sent to, but reading what others have gone through, my problems are nothing compared. I'm sickened by the teachings that some kids are taught, but at the same time I'm interested in reading articles so I know what is happening.

Wow. I wonder if the child in question could be the child he abused that is still a minor. (The ones who the records were supposedly destroyed for.)

Or the Duggar family household is actually the "finishing school for child molesters" like Jimbob opined the professional help would have been for Josh. Honestly, I think there are way more secrets and cover ups that will be disclosed in the future. (Albeit not all)

Keep in mind that rumor was presented as happening in real time two days ago, so maybe LE went back the other day.

What was it that Megyn Kelly asked the girls at the end of their interview and they nervously giggled?

transcript of JB and Michelle

Sarah Palin:
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/sarah-palin-megyn-kelly-duggar-victims

Palin, a paid Fox News contributor who used to have her own reality show on TLC, "Sarah Palin's Alaska," proceeded to go after "the media" for interviewing the alleged victims.

“These girls are being re-victimized, for shame on the media for, under the guise of ‘Hey, gotta let them have their say anyway. Let’s interview them and put them there, back into the fire, and let them explain,’" Palin said. "They’re innocent! And these girls, yeah so humiliated.”

Thanks for the continued discussion. I have nothing much to contribute but read the thread daily for new posts. I still can't believe TLC hasn't canceled the Duggar hypocrisy show yet. WTH are they waiting for? Guess they must think that all will be forgotten by fall  The show must go on!

Fox News announced the Duggar interview on May 30. The 911 call from DHS was on May 27. So the question is did it occur before or after the interview was taped?

No big surprise here! It will probably be ready in time for November sweeps.

BDE ~ The National report is a satire on the news. It's all fake. I found that out the hard way myself  There is not really a movie about the Duggars in production.

National Report is a website which posts fictional articles related to world events.

Probably never.

From what I've read, it's an online school approved by Vision Forum Ministries (now defunct due to the founder's extra-marital affairs). Secondary education for older girls is very much a mixed bag - some families support it while others feel its unnecessary, if not perhaps a bit dangerous. Women who do pursue secondary education tend to stick to stereotypical roles - nursing, midwifery, childcare, etc. A GED is commonplace as many young adults have been home-schooled. HSA (Homeschoolers Anonymous) is filled with stories of survivors of this movement who feel their education was lacking and tales of their parents creatively composing their transcripts. Folding laundry can become a B in Advanced European History, for example.

It would be normal, even commonplace, for many women of this movement to receive care by a midwife (even one unaccredited); VBAC and home births are also heavily preferred. They're not against modern medicine (although some more fervent do have issues with vaccines) but there's reason for all this - something the Duggars don't have to worry about (yet) and that's money. Having a child in a hospital and prenatal care can be so expensive for most of us who only have a child or two - P/QF followers eschew all forms of government assistance (to include medical care) - some even renounce insurance (except what is required by law), insisting if you seek out insurance, you're doubting God's ability to protect your family if some tragedy arises. And then there's a knock on 'benefit' of home birth followed by home schooling - the parent controls all paperwork the child will one day need to move forth in the world.

Sorry if this is too OT, but there are reasons to prefer a midwife and/or home births that have nothing to do with religion, money, or going off the radar (though I imagine the Duggars' reasons are included on that list).

I chose a midwife and birthing center to bring my son into the world because I don't believe giving birth (in normal circumstances) is a medical event. If I'd had another child I would have chosen to go the one step further and give birth at home.

ETA: about Duggar midwifery. Just read Gawker article about this sect's notions of midwifery. Lunacy. "Midwives" tell stories of slow labor that is hastened by the midwive's search through the house for works of the devil, and finding then burning......Cabbage Patch dolls.

Positively medieval. I'm surprised they don't burn daughters at the stake and think the world flat.

What was it that Megyn Kelly asked the girls at the end of their interview and they nervously giggled?

You mean when she said, "This is it, right? There are no more skeletons that are going to come out of the closet, are there?"

If I am recalling correctly, both girls laughed, and one said, "no..this is it", but the other one said nothing.
