Monticello family still searching for missing nephew

Sunday night, Marquis Martin went missing.

Police say Martin was last seen at his home in Wilmar after being dropped off after a shift at McDonald’s in Monticello.

Now his family is spending ever bit of daylight searching for him.
Martin’s great aunt, Marilyn Trotter said the search has been exhausting and tedious but they are determined to find him or any clues.

“We are turning over every stick, we are going into every abandoned house… every puddle of water, everywhere we can go we go. We are going to find Marquis,” said Trotter.

Several people have been joining the search party looking for Martin alongside the Drew County Sheriffs Office.

Mostly, searching in the Wilmar, Lacy and Monticello area.
Police said Martin was last seen wearing black pants and a green jacket.

'As long as there is a tomorrow': Family of missing Drew County man hope he will be found

The Drew County Sheriff's Department says the 26-year-old man has been missing since Sunday, he's described as a black man who's about 5 feet 10 inches tall. A man who Kimbraly Barnes, Superintendent of Drew Central School District calls hard-working, loved his job and is also caring. Barnes says Martin's heart has big as his Valentine's Day gift.
Barnes says Martin has worked at the district for a few years and is also working at the local McDonald's. Reed says their family just wants to bring Martin home and will continue to fight until they do.

“As long as there is a tomorrow, as long as there is another moment, another minute, another day, we’re going to hope,” said Reed.

Reed says every little detail matters, so if you see something, say something.

If you have any information or have seen Martin, you're asked to call the Drew County Sheriff's Department at 870-367-6211.

Feb 14:
At 9:30 this morning, at the Drew County Judge House, Cheryl Mark Gober will meet with interested adult Parsons about being a part of a search party for Marquis Martin, who has been missing since Sunday at 10 PM. Adults only, please. Wear appropriate clothing. At approximately 10 PM Sunday night, Marquis Martin, age 27, was last seen at his residence on 13th St. in Wilmar, after being dropped off by a friend after working at McDonald’s in Monticello.

If anyone has seen Marquis Martin since 10 PM Sunday, or has any information about his whereabouts since then, please call the DCSO at 367-6211.

Marquis is employed as a para-pro at Drew Central Elementary School, and also works at McDonald’s in Monticello.

It is believed he was last seen wearing black pants and a green jacket.

Sheriff Mark Gober asks anyone who may have information about the case to call DCSO, as opposed to posting it on social media, which causes others to misconstrue information, leading to false reports. Gober recommends social media information emphasize prayers for the family, as opposed to rumors.

Video #2: “Drew County Deputy Updates Missing Man’s Mom”

LE updates M.M.’s mother on the case. It a little hard to hear due to background noise but I was able to note the following:
1. Local LE, AR State Police, & FBI are currently working case. (Searching & interviewing people)
2. LE shares with mother where they are currently searching (but I can’t make it out clearly).
3. LE shares that according to AT&T, his phone was on until around 2am of the morning after he went missing.
4. It is shared that his phone last pinged around midnight after he went missing & it pinged off a tower in Wilmar (which is right outside of Monticello & his hometown). LE tried to explain this all to the mother.
5. Apparently it also pinged farther south (possibly near old racetrack) because mom keeps talking about looking there.
6. LE explains coordinates of pinged phone & how they search at that spot (in woods, briars, & mud).
7. LE answers que the mom had about a certain phone number by telling her they traced it and was a number often used by scammers.

LE also explains how the tower his phone pinged from attempts to give them those coordinates. IMO, he does a great job explaining how in bigger cities there are more towers so normally 3 or so phone towers will triangulate more specific coordinates, HOWEVER here in rural AR there’s not as many which makes for a broader search (little over a 1 mile radius).

LE also shares they were able to obtain MM’s phone records & sent them to the FBI to go through and analyze. He also explains how they can tell what social media was being used as well.

LE explains why they started their search at his residence (because this is the place where he was last seen/dropped off from work at 10pm).

Overall, kuddos to LE for being so transparent & informative on this case esp to MM’s mother! IMO

JMO, looking at this Facebook page seeing his posts are from 2015, along w/ the type of posts included, I think he’s made some positive changes in his life since then. I base this on reading about him having two jobs (one being a para-pro at a elem school), all the awesome things people have shared about him, & how it’s not like him to just leave without telling anybody. Again, this is JMO.

It appears he has a little boy who would be 4-5yrs old now. I hope there were no tensions there. Monticello does have a high crime rate, and while Marquis appear to be a loving dad and family man that attends church, it is quite likely he has contact with plenty of individuals that could get him hurt.

In Monticello, AR, you have a 1 in 182 chance of falling victim to a violent crime, such as rape, robbery, assault, or even murder. In terms of property crime, your chances of being a victim are 1 in 32. These crimes include theft, vehicle theft, and burglary.

Marquis talked a lot about getting out of Little Rock. It looks like he did that by moving back to Wilmar, but I onder if he could have finally left for another state and just hasn't contacted his fam yet or lost his phone etc. Hoping for the best for his mom's sake but the old racetrack lead gives me a bad feeling.

I live less than an hour away from Monticello & have family who live in and all around there as well. Monticello is a college town (UAM) and is continuously growing. There’s crime of course but overall it isn’t too bad; not a place I would describe as unsafe. I will say there is a high percentage of missing persons cases that have originated from Monticello and surrounding areas.
