NEWPORT, Ark. – A judge agreed to a plea deal Friday that will send the man accused of killing Jackson County woman Sydney Sutherland to prison for the rest of his life.

Looking clean-shaven and significantly smaller than when he was first booked into custody, Quake Lewellyn said little as he pleaded guilty to charges of capital murder and rape in Sutherland’s death.
....
The crowd of more than 60 wore pink in a show of support for the family. There was a much smaller group of around 10 people sitting with the defense.
...
Making a victim impact statement, Sutherland’s mother Maggy Sutherland asked Lewellyn to look her in the eyes as she called him “Satan” and said, “She was not yours to take.”

“Satan is real,” she said. “The hands you hugged me with are the same hands you killed her with.”

Thanks for these updates, LWOP is what he deserves. Her poor mother should never have to know that kind of pain.

RIP Sydney

I'm glad he accepted life without parole. I doubt they could have gotten a capital conviction on him even with all the evidence and it indicates he is remorseful. I'm surprised there were even ten people there to support him, I would have expected maybe half that. I would like to see what he looks like but there will probably be a new intake photo as I presume he will now be transferred from jail to prison. He's a messed up person and maybe he'll be able to get better in the twenty to forty years it usually takes laws to change enough and people to forget enough that he might see release.

I am glad that he accepted the plea, also.

What a loss and what a moving statement from her mother. I hope they are able to mourn and find peace, as much as possible.
She was a beautiful and valuable member of society.

He does look slimmer. Looks like he has gone grey also

Just heard. Glad he pled guilty to spare family the upheaval of trial. I will always hate the days someone like Sydney is taken from this world & her positive, productive life. Healing & peace to her family…

Life without parole for the murder and life for the rape.
This is an excellent result.

One more very dangerous man off the streets.
