GWBush has also said he will veto any legislation that goes against making the port deal. If he does I am willing to carry an "Impeach Bush" sign and walk the streets. Enough, is enough.
I'm with you Buzz........I sincerely think the time has come to impeach this moron! Whatever is he thinking???? Apparently he isn't & his speech today made me want to scream. I emailed a letter today to him at the White House doesn't do any good. But I told him what I thought.........

This totally crossed over the line of insanity!

Sounds like it's more cronyism. He has people with connections who will benefit, perhaps, so he pushes it through. I wonder if Congress would ever have the backbone to impeach him? It's one bad decision after the other after the other, usually at our expense. He only cares for himself and his buddies. And I am a Republican! This is an election year so hopefully Congress will stand up to his bad ideas, which never seem to stop.

fourth article down..Karen Hughes meeting with Dubai officials prior to Rice's visit. note her comments.

of interest, is that USA is spending millions, approved by Bush in 2002 to train women in UAE and other Arab countries so they can mainstream into business in their own countries.

This makes me so angry! I know there is the mighty $ behind this, but I prefer safety over $!!!

My husband said we should just go ahead and make Osama the director of the CIA, since he's so good at hiding and I recommended appointing Saddam to the Supreme Court since he apparently knows how to direct a courtroom.

This is utterly ridiculous. I agree that I no longer trust Pres. Bush and Co. with my safety or concerns either! :furious:

Where are the rabid pro-Bush supporters with an argument for why this whole thing is a good idea and how it's being blown out of proportion by the evil liberals? (Otherwise known as a rationalization) Are they still waiting for the right-wing pundits on Fox to tell them what to think so they can tow the party line?

If anti-war speech and being against wiretapping is "treasonous" behavior (which it's not, btw), what do you call selling out the security of our ports to the Middle East?

The "nice" thing about Bush is that no matter what atrocious, incompetent, scary thing he does, he's always capable of doing worse. I think he's hit bottom here. Though he may keep digging to go a bit lower.

I'm a Republican who tries to give the benefit of the doubt to the Republican side, whenever possible. Many things that bother the more liberal side, do not bother me. And I have never bashed the President, on a personal level. I kinda like the person himself, although I don't necessarily agree with everything he does. (Hey, that's the same as my own family members, haha)

HOWEVER...let me go public here (on WS!) to say I do not understand this, what he is doing. This just feels so wrong to me, in my gut. Wrong, and scary.

I may not know the "ins and outs" on all of this, but it scares the hell outta me that we are giving any opportunity for security weaknesses to foreign companies. Although we've got a lot of nutty Americans on our own soil, I REALLY don't like the idea of giving control of something so vitally important to our security to another country. Sorry!

There, did I shock a few of you?! ;)

Deputy Dog,

Hopefully all Republicans will take a stand on this issue / this isn't about party loyalty. Its about the safety of our country......

I am impressed that the Republican senators, govonors etc are standing up to Bush. Hopefully something can be done & our ELECTED officals can put a stop to this maniac before its to late!

Intelligence agencies scrutinized ports deal: White House 22 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. intelligence agencies scrutinized a deal to allow a state-owned Dubai company to manage major U.S. ports and found no security concerns, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said on Wednesday. President George W. Bush is facing heavy resistance, including a revolt from members of his Republican Party in Congress, over a deal that critics say could pose risks to security at seaports.

Bush said on Tuesday he would use his veto power to block any legislation aimed at halting the agreement with Dubai Ports World. Defending the president's stance, McClellan said: "The counterterrorism experts looked at it. The intelligence community did assessments to make sure that there was no national security threat."

Bush said on Tuesday the Dubai company would not be in charge of security, that the deal had been thoroughly reviewed and the country would be no less safe as a result of the transaction. The question of whether a state-controlled company from the United Arab Emirates should be allowed to control the ports has sparked a political storm for Bush at a time when he is struggling to boost sagging public approval ratings.

Here is an excellent article that discusses both sides of the issue:

http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0222/p01s01-usfp.html

See last couple of paragraphs - perhaps an equal problem to the company that is going to be leasing terminals is that fact that the ports are getting only about a fifth of the money they feel they need to provide security.

I have NEVER understood the concept of allowing foreign companies or individuals to come in and buy up property in the U.S. I just don't get it. The fact that this new owner/operator of U.S. ports is Arab doesn't bother me so much as that it is a state that is well-known for its support of the Taliban and Bin Laden and social injustices against women, etc. But it doesn't surprise me that Bush would okay such a deal. I suspect that Rumsfeld and Cheney were behind this and that Bush was let in on it at the last minute. He HAS to back it because he is their puppet and he has to save face -- plus it probably means some big $$$ for himself!
