I do not believe it is fair to judge someone by a sexual fantasy that they played out with a fellow consenting adult.

One of the MOST reported sexual fantasies by women is rape; that does not in any way mean they want to actually be raped.

And I also want to say that I did not hear TA say "that he's being turned on by the thought of a twelve year old having her first orgasim[sic]". He said JA SOUNDED like a 12 year old having her first orgasm.

Exactly lil buddy those were not his words. What 2 people do consensually is not for the public. I do not believe one word from this woman. She may even have some truths but she has lost credibility with me. If anyone is deviant it is Jodi she made up all these diabolical lies that are perverted.

I don't believe her acting as though it wasn't a big deal is a facade though. Psychopaths notoriously feel invinceable to even the most daunting situations for non-disordered people. Stress and anxiety are foreign to them. I think she believed she would be exonerated. I believe she still is banking on that notion.

Not really that I've heard. I don't believe a few spankings with a spoon (even if true) do anything to explain her psychopathy. Some psychopaths have horrible childhoods rampant with abuse - others very simply don't. It keeps the nature vs. nurture debate going. ;)

David Lykken, a behavioral geneticist, is one my favorite researchers into psychopathy/sociopathy for this reason. He theorized that sociopathy is 'taught' through parenting, peers and societal influences while psychopathy is a born condition.

I'm not certain I agree but his work is fascinating nonetheless.

Another thing to consider is the "tree brain" or the left brain. Psychopaths have an empty spot on the right brain.

There is no doubt that Jodi Arias has a tree brain, which characterizes many other psychopaths like Adolf Hitler, Mao Zedong, Osama bin Laden, Adam Lanza, Lori Drew, Casey Anthony, and Jerry Sandusky.

There is no doubt that Jodi Arias has a tree brain, which characterizes many other psychopaths like Adolf Hitler, Mao Zedong, Osama bin Laden, Adam Lanza, Lori Drew, Casey Anthony, and Jerry Sandusky.
This then would make Arias and other criminals listed similar to certain autistics, who are missing something in the brain which allows empathy and connectedness to form neurologically.

So there goes the idea that they are evil (choosing the malevolent- to -others behavior) and more of the idea that they are autistic-like.

I never said they are autistic in any way. It would be saying all autistic people are criminally predisposed, which is not true. Also, autistic people are known to be not at risk for committing crime.

What I am saying is that these people like Jodi Arias, Fred Phelps, or Osama bin Laden are very small and narrow minded people, which characterizes psychopaths and evil people. They only can see the "tree" and not the whole forest. They focus on the small things in life, which makes them very small minded people. Narcissists, paranoid, and antisocial people are very small minded in nature. They are evil no matter how screwed up their brains are.

I believe evil is more nurture than nature and tree brain can develop because of environment.

Totally turned off of the Dr. Drew show. Grow the eff up. They waste their time talking about the matching apparel her and her attorney Aretha wearing and how they flung their hair and adjust their glasses the same... Seriously? You guys sound like you're at a gr 7 prom. ... Maybe I'm in the wrong forum lol. This is the first show I have finally decided to watch that is hosting a Jodi Arias court interview. What a joke. Guilty or not. Get on with it. Dr Drew has obviously ran out of things to air about this chick.

Well, this got me to thinking. I remember some research conducted not long ago that showed that it is possible to generate new neurons in the hippocampus part of the brain - so I went looking for the studies and instead, found this very interesting article. I've copied and pasted here because I can't seem to get the hyperlink to work. About four paragraphs down it talks about PTSD and memories. Very interesting.
New neurons help us to remember fear

By Robert Sanders, Media Relations | June 14, 2011

BERKELEY —
Fear burns memories into our brain, and new research by University of California, Berkeley, neuroscientists explains how.

Scientists have long known that fear and other highly emotional experiences lead to incredibly strong memories. In a study appearing online today (Tuesday, June 14) in advance of publication in the journal Molecular Psychiatry, UC Berkeley’s Daniela Kaufer and colleagues report a new way for emotions to affect memory: The brain’s emotional center, the amygdala, induces the hippocampus, a relay hub for memory, to generate new neurons.
In a fearful situation, these newborn neurons get activated by the amygdala and may provide a “blank slate” on which the new fearful memory can be strongly imprinted, she said. In evolutionary terms, it means new neurons are likely helping you to remember the lion that nearly killed you.

“We remember emotional events much more strongly than daily experiences, and for a long time we have known that connections between the amygdala and hippocampus help to encode this emotional information,” said Kaufer, an assistant professor of integrative biology and a member of UC Berkeley’s Wills Neuroscience Institute. “Our research shows that amygdala input actually pushes the hippocampus to make new neurons from a unique population of neural stem cells. This provides completely new cells that get activated in response to emotional input.”

The finding has implications for post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other problems caused by faulty regulation of emotional memory.

“Many affective disorders involve disordered emotional memories like PTSD, depression and anxiety. We think that newborn neurons may play a role in creating these emotional memories,” she said.

The finding comes a year after brain researcher Fred Gage at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, Calif., showed that the formation of new memories is associated with increased activation of two-week-old newborn nerve cells in the hippocampus that are derived from adult neural stem cells. Adult stem cells appear to differentiate continually into new nerve cells – nearly 100 each day – yet half of those newborn neurons are slated for death within four weeks after their birth. If they are highly activated, however – such as in learning new complex information – many more of them will survive and presumably help in establishing new memories in the brain.

Kaufer, who conducts research on the effects of stress on the brain, knew that many types of positive and negative experiences, such as exercise and stress, affect the rate of neurogenesis in the hippocampus. Along with graduate students Elizabeth Kirby, the lead author of the study, and Aaron Friedman, she was intrigued by the idea that emotions might affect neurogenesis in the hippocampus, since the brain’s clearinghouse for emotions, the amygdala, is connected to the hippocampus via multiple neural circuits. To test this, Kirby focused on the basolateral amygdala, the region of the almond-shaped structure that handles negative emotions, including stress, anxiety and fear.

Using rats, Kirby surgically destroyed the basolateral amygdala and discovered that the production of new nerve cells in the hippocampus decreased. To make sure that the cell damage created when the amygdala was surgically destroyed was not affecting the experiment, the researchers borrowed a gene therapy technique from Robert Sapolsky’s lab at Stanford University to genetically introduce potassium channels into the amygdala, which shut down the activity of the nerve cells without causing injury. This also decreased neurogenesis in the hippocampus.

They next tested Gage’s theory that new neurons are especially sensitive to input two weeks after they form. Kirby and Kaufer labeled hippocampal cells created over a three-day period in a group of rats, and then conditioned a fear response in these rats two weeks later. They then confronted the rats with the same fearful situation or a neutral yet novel context the next day. When they examined the brains, they found that the newborn neurons had been specifically activated by the fearful situation. However, when they destroyed the basolateral amygdala, new neurons were no longer activated in response to the fearful memory.

“The research suggests that newborn neurons play a role not only in the formation of memory, but also in helping to create the emotional context of memory,” Kirby said. It also suggests that the basolateral amygdala drives the ability of new neurons to be part of an emotional memory.

The team now plans to see whether other negative stimuli, such as stress and anxiety, similarly cooperate with amygdala activity to alter neurogenesis in the hippocampus.

The coauthors of the paper with Kaufer, Kirby and Friedman are UC Berkeley graduate student David Covarrubias and undergraduates Carl Ying and Wayne G. Sun; Ki Ann Goosens, an assistant professor of brain and cognitive sciences in the McGovern Institute for Brain Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and Stanford’s Sapolsky.

Kaufer’s work is funded by a 2010 BRAINS (Biobehavioral Research Awards for Innovative New Scientists) award from the National Institute of Mental Health of the National Institutes of Health and a young investigator award from The Brain and Behavior Research Foundation, formerly the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD). Kirby is supported by a California Institute for Regenerative Medicine pre-doctoral fellowship and a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Research fellowship from the U. S. Department of Defense.

I agree with you. It was a crime of passion and because so brutal and executed on one so young and full of promise, must be punished but at least her honesty would have given her back her dignity and allowed for getting around the death penalty. The way she is playing it just makes her look like a Casey Anthony. Of course, that is probably part of her problem: No ability to be honest even to herself.

As for your last sentence: The emptier a person is , the more rapidly the obsession can begin to flame out of control, like a lit match on some dry, parched grass......

Just to make sure everyone is aware, a premeditated crime is not a crime of passion. A crime of passion is when a person suddenly snaps and immediately attacks due to their emotions bring inflamed- like if they catch the babysitter molesting their child, or something.

I'm curious to know why you believe this. Can you explain?

It is true according to research, that narcissists actually secretly loathe themselves. They thus erupt into narcissistic rage if anyone confirms their deepest thoughts about themselves by criticizing them.

She did a stint as her own lawyer - like Bundy.
Does this change your view at all re. narcissist?

Have you seen this video?
http://video.foxnews.com/v/2228988608001/

When I first saw that video I thought, "Wow, she's nuts". Now I think she is simply narcissistically amused in this clip. It's incredible.

When this trial first started I was with you - I thought she was getting played by TA and then she snapped - probably Borderline fear of abandonment.

Then she took the stand...

Her narcissism, imo, based on what I have seen is off the chart. She thinks she is so irresistibly charming that she will pull this off.

Also, the defense has not been able to put forth a single shred of evidence to show that JA was abused in any way shape or form - in fact evidence (texts & emails) presented by the defense has been supportive of the assertion that JA was the aggressor and the abuser. If the defense could find evidence that TA was not a virgin before JA, they would have very eagerly presented it by now; it does not exist.

I'm going to cue up some parts of JA's testimony because I get the impression many of you are not watching...

Her 1st 5 mins on the stand against the prosecution... Do you see fear or low self-esteem?

It would be great if you could add the minutes at which we can find what you are referring to in those videos. It's too hard to wade through hours of videos and this is good stuff!!

A few things I am still unclear on, if anyone could clarify:

  • Why exactly did they break up?
  • How involved was TA with a new woman?
  • Who was she, and how much did JA know about her?
  • In what way did TA allegedly let JA know he held the sex against her?

I liked Britskates answer. But I disagree that they never actually broke up. According to jodi and Travis' friends, they broke up. But they kept having sex off and on after that.

One last question in general - do not mean to be a pain here, but to me it is really the crux:

Why exactly did Travis decide to see other women and discount Jodi as his future wife?

After all,
~she had converted to Mormonism;
~ he obviously found her attractive;
~he enjoyed the kinky sex, and if they married, he would be killing 2 birds with one stone: Getting a Mormon wife who would let him play out his wildest fantasies - having his cake and eating it , too.

-------- It keeps being stated that her jealousy and his lack of commitment were making things escalate to danger----but I still don't get why it was that he did not want to marry her.....(yes, we all see now clearly how psychotic and dangerous she is, but his dumping her MADE this come out clearly. So what happened?:waitasec::waitasec:

IMO, because she is not the kind of girl most men want to marry- she was possessive, a liar, obsessive and used sex to manipulate. Oh, and she was soulless.

I think Travis dug the sex but he was also very conflicted by it. This was not the normal sex of two people who loved each other, IMO. It was like something out of a 🤬🤬🤬🤬 movie. And while many guys like that, it can also be an exercise that is empty of the real connection and intimacy of sex between two people who have actual souls. I think it was fun to him but felt dirty and wasn't real enough to be something he wanted to do for life.

I know this post was from awhile ago, but as I am new to the case and going through the threads, I just wondered something:

The bolded above makes sense to me. Can anyone tell me how they arrived at the conclusions that JA introduced TA to these sex acts, and that after awhile he wished to return to normal?

Was it something TA said in texts, or what his friends said? It is a very reasonable theory; just hoping to see some evidence to solidify it. Thanks. :)

According to those who knew him, Travis was a virgin when he met jodi. We hear in the sex tape that she introduced him to ky. In the same tape, he says he never even masturbated before he met her, iirc.

Further, we have learned via testimony that jodi had an extensive sex history. However, the defense has been unable to find anyone to say they had sex with Travis, including his ex girlfriend who testified. And there was zero 🤬🤬🤬🤬 of any kind found in his home or on his computer, deleted or otherwise.

Can someone tell me JA association with Dr. Samuels? How are they connected?
What is the circumstance of his interviews with her? TIA

He is s hired gun, hired by the defense to assess jodi.

Some pro-Arias site is selling pieces of her artwork. They are asking for bids in excess of $899.00

Below is one example.

What I find psychologically interesting is the the portrait, rather than invoking Lucille Ball, reminds one of Jodi herself: Blank and cool. Her style seems mechanical.

All very telling.

http://🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Jodi-Arias-original-artwork-Lucille-Ball.jpg

This one is even more chilling: JA's artistic style is very, very evocative of her own persona.

I 100% agree! I think the art shows she lacks the ability to reflect a soul. The subjects are totally empty. Soulless.

I don't fully understand what you're writing. When you say PTS do you mean PTSD? Did she take the MMPI-2? If she took that test which measures a broad spectrum of a person as a whole and not just one thing then I assure you there is NO way she faked that. She can read whatever book she likes. That test is highly sophisticated which can also measure the likelihood of whether someone is lying.

A person administering test will introduce themselves as a doctor, but unlikely they are going to come right out and say I'm testing you for ptsd..If it's the MMPI-2 then it doesn't really matter because it tests for everything.. I've taken it twice, and it's not something that can be scored immediately..

If it's the MMPI - 2 this will give you an idea of how complex it is..
http://faculty.pepperdine.edu/shimels/Courses/Files/MMPI2.pdf

Suspiciously, she did not. She took the millon clinical multiaxial inventory, a much shorter and less comprehensive test.

Theodore Million, is well known for his work with personality disorders. I'm not all that familiar with him, but I'm aware of him. While this test may not be as extensive as the MMPI-2 my opinion is that it's reliable test, and should be taken as credible. Like the MMPI-2 it checks for many different things...
The MCMI-III contains a total of 28 scales broken down into 24 clinical scales (personality and clinical syndrome scales) organized by severity. In addition, the MCMI-III features the addition of 42 Grossman Facet scale scores

Over the years, the MCMI scales have gained increased recognition and usage. The current version, MCMI-III, is commonly used in forensic evaluations (Archer et al, 2006, Bow et al., 2005; Craig, 2006; Schutte, 2001), and studies have indicated that the MCMI II/III is the second-most commonly used objective instrument in both civil and criminal evaluations (Boccaccini & Brodsky, 1999; Borum & Grisso, 1995). It consists of 175 true/false items and provides numerous scales that tap response style, personality traits/disorders, and psychopathology.

Great closing to the above-linked piece. But will the jury understand this?

The odds of her suffering amnesia after a traumatic event: 3-8 out of 100,000. The odds of her being struck by lightning in her life: 1 out of 5000. Perhaps Dr. Samuels should have said aloud, that which was stated in the text of the slide, “Jodi Arias is many times more likely to be struck by lightning, than to have amnesia.”

True. I don't think this prosecutor lets anything slip by.....I think Arias' defense lawyer should have simply tried to go with insanity. Self-defense is ludicrous given the victims character and the manner in which he was murdered....

Thanks for addressing all my questions and posts.

Yes , it becomes clearer now that the very qualities that gave Jodi a foothold with Travis - her aggression, her sexual bravado and experience, her confidence - eliminated her as a serious partner for him. Who, though, could have imagined this outcome? Even many stalkers never get to this point....

Yes, and I think this is evident also from their actions:

If someone like Arias were really fully capable of genuine self love and self-interest, she would have moved on from Travis, learned to modify and be more guarded of her sexuality, perhaps gotten some education and waited for a later period when she might find a husband (nowadays, being 30-something is still considered young).

I think what horrified and enraged her was that to her skewed thinking, she had given the perfect combination: Converting to Mormonism, being attractive and also allowing for a lot of kinky sex exploration. To realize that her offering had been rejected, and now some dorky (to her thinking ) young Mormon girls would be given priority, must have seemed to her like sacrilege.

It's impossible for me to accept your viewpoint as we've heard TA say outloud that he's being turned on by the thought of a twelve year old having her first orgasim.
As much as some would like to, we can't blame JA for everything that came out of his mouth.

Just noting too that I find it hard to believe that twelve year old girls are experiencing orgasims. When girls are sexual at twelve, it's usually because they've been lead down a path for somebody else's pleasure.

The thought of the sentence being uttered about twelve year old girls having orgasims as a turn on is beyond disturbing to me. It's on tape so nobody made it up - TA said it. If it's her fault, he was a chameleon too.

Woe be gone: Travis said that Jodi looked like a twelve year old having an orgasm. This was when Jodi was wearing pigtails. He did not say he liked or would like to have a twelve year old girl orgasm. Imo
