I hope the family chooses to let that letter be published after all is said and done.

I don't know if this has been posted here but this is the supplemental report by the lead detective. It lends a lot of insight in Jodi and Travis' relationship by way of roommate and friend's accounts.

Again, thanks so much for this. Fascinating.
I downloaded the pdf file and have just gotten to the part where the officer says there was the smell of decomposition throughout the house, and was evident as soon as the door was opened. I had wondered about this from the beginning of my intro to this case when I heard TA was found 5 days after the murder. How could the room mates not have noticed this? Any ideas?

For example one of the roommmates was asleep and had to be informed of police presence and told to exit the house. This, in a house of which police said, "The smell of decomposition was throughout the home and was apparent as soon as we entered the front door." ???????(this may be why one of the jurors asked about roommate alibis??)

A homicide detective is naturally going to be more familiar with decomp than your average twenty something male. In addition to that, Travis had been behind at least two closed doors, that weren't opened, until the roommate (Zach) was roused by friends (not police) to find a key to unlock Travis' bedroom door. It was then they called 911. Responding officers had to wake up the other roommate though (Enrique).

It may be on their facebook accounts but the first they noticed any smell was the same day his body was located.

Human nature, I think, determines most people wouldn't normally assume a human being was lying rotting somewhere in the house. One would probably think garbage, animal, unwashed laundry...almost anything else.

Yes, all very true, now that you put it that way. Thanks as always for your excellent and clarifying responses. :)

And now I do see in this fascinating report that there was in fact a call made to police by TA and Lisa about the slashed tires. There goes that blogger's idea that this story was mere rumor in the Church after the murder was discovered!:seeya:

@ BritsKate: Also, I now see in the report that Enrique did tell the detective he had noticed an unusual smell on Monday night but did not know what to make of it.

I think TA ought to have filed police reports about the tires and other incidents. Because he did not , this has encouraged certain bloggers to say that these incidents have been made up after the fact. (no witnesses, no police reports or calls to 911).

That she had slashed his tires, gained unlawful entry into his place, been aggressive toward his new date, makes it baffling that he would have spent an afternoon naked and having sex with her on June 4, especially since he was now dating a virgin within the Mormon church. I would think that showing up at his door "to give him the check for the car" he would have taken it, chatted, told her to leave - and been found shot and stabbed but fully clothed in the living room. Did she have something on him? I just find all of this baffling......:waitasec:

The problem with trawling all over the internet researching something is that you wind up with conflicting theories. For example, reading different websites several conflicting ideas have been set forth:

1. Jodi was a young woman madly in love with TA, got too aggressive, got dumped, and killed him in a fit of mad jealousy.

2. Jodi was ambivalent about TA and the abuse went both ways.

3. Jodi having no high school or colllege degree had become a sex worker and was basically TA's paid prostitute, threatening to expose him if he backed out of the deal.

Just wish I could know which is true---does not matter legally but it does psychologically.

Anything can be written on the Internet. Any theory. Of course that doesn't make those theories true. The fact is that we have heard numerous firsthand accounts from people who knew Travis and jodi, that corroborate that she was the stalker and manipulative and that Travis wasn't sexually experienced.

But there has been zero evidence to corroborate abuse, pedophilia, etc., on the part of Travis. I have to go by actual evidence not just Internet theories!!!!!!

Let me also say that IMO, the reason Travis let Jodi in that day after calling her a sociopath and knowing she was stalking him is the reason many people get snowed by psychopaths. She manipulated him. Also, despite red flags, despite gut instncts, people often ignore those, especially men, and find it hard to believe that this person they kkow and were intimate with would actually hurt them for real.

Finally, you have to realize Travis was a 30 year old Mormon virgin when they met. Not a lot of scope for easy sex among the people he knew. So I'm sure the sex was an incredible pull. He liked it and if you are starved for sex and some crazy ex is throwing it at you, it may ignore your fears temporarily. Stupid? Well, yes. But jodi knew what buttons to push to get acces to Travis and to get into his home.

Here's the list I've compiled, SMK...it's probably not complete, but its what I've pieced together from several online accounts of family and friends, media reports, and Jodi's interviews and testimony. This is JMO, based on my own knowledge of abusive relationships.

Behaviors consistent with an abusive personality...

Jodi:
  • Moved to Mesa after their relationship ended - pursuit in a very classical sense.
  • Slashed the tires on his car - damage to personal property.
  • Sent a 'warning' email to a prospective girlfriend.
  • Snooped through his text messages.
  • Stalked him repeatedly.
  • In my opinion, very likely cyber stalked him.
  • Consistently violated boundaries of personal privacy.
  • Snooped through his online accounts.
  • Knew his ATM pin # and garage access code.
  • Dismissed his voiced concerns over them having sex.
  • Showed evidence of high manipulation through their phone recording.
  • Isolated Travis in the not so classical sense that because of their sex life, Travis would have been unable to confide the reality of their relationship to many.
  • Threatened suicide as emotional blackmail.
Behaviors inconsistent with an abusive personality:
  • Encouraging Jodi to date other people.
  • Not escalating the relationship to a more serious nature very, very quickly.
  • No evidence of stalking or harassing Jodi once she moved back to Yreka.
  • No escalation of violence according to testimony on direct.
  • No isolation of Jodi - this doesn't mean keeping her from 'his' friends - it means systematically shutting down her every 'outside' resource, sometimes to even include work and family.
  • No evidence of financial abuse - instead he was lending her money.
  • Nothing to prove incessant emails, non-stop text messages, or constant phone calls on Travis' part.
  • No outward evidence of jealousy on Travis' end. Not rising to the level I would expect from an abuser, anyway.
  • No testimony from friends or family, in court or elsewhere, to indicate an easily triggered temper, impatience, possessiveness, etc.
  • No proof he circumvented her movements - she didn't live with him and he even lent her his car.
  • Didn't fly into a rage over a ruined BMW.
  • Seemingly actively tried to help Jodi on many fronts, by her own accounts.

Awesome post!!! I envy you living in UK. I lived there for 6 years and miss it terribly!!!!!

awesome POST!!!

Yes, and I could tell on the phone sex audio that he was viewing the sex as its own thing (separate from his Mormonism and plans to marry) and she (despite her words to the contrary) could not figure out why this sexual connection would not necessarily lead to marriage. She hints at this in the audio: Wondering aloud if either of them will be able to find Mormon spouses who will let them "blossom" sexually. (Translation: Why aren't we getting married?) Clueless, TA responds, "Let's make the best of your blosomming."

Reminds me of my younger days, when male attitudes like that baffled me.

Has anyone found if she still a practicing Mormon?

Travis reaction to Jodi stalking and the limitted information on incidents. Mayb (IMO) the fact that he was a motivational speaker and his inability to get rid of Jodi. Could be that as a motivational speaker he did not have his life in control. The motivation speaking was a big part of his employment. Some people are book smart but naive when it comes to life and interacting with people.I'm sure he did not think that she would really kill him. Nor do I think he understood the severity of her actions. Also, I still believe that sex was the lure to get her in the house. He was horny and she was willing to assist.

Personality disorder not otherwise specified.

Quick FYI on court observer thread. The family and galley Travis supporters were asked to remove their blue ribbons:(

Also, I just noticed that in the police report, it shows that the smell was totally apparent to the responding officers, but the roommates had already opened Travis' door. Until that time, his bedroom had been sealed.

Are you kidding? That's horrible. I don't get it. Little blue ribbons for the victim. And that's not allowed. Unbelievable.

Yes, that would explain their not noticing it before that then, thanks.

Nope. She testified she stopped practicing it in 2010 iirc. The same year the possibly forged letters substantiating her claims of abuse and pedophilia, allegedly written by Travis, surfaced.

From reading her blog and discerning her spiritual interests, I think the Mormonism was never more than an attempt to become wife-material for Travis.
