I suppose the businesses see it differently. If they can keep people working on a temp basis, it makes them move more frequently and allows the employers to pay lower wages.
By its nature, construction is always temporary.

As @liona states...

Camping construction workers (and maybe camping chefs and waitresses) is due to a local phenomena where there are few distant towns, and the area with the work is features wealthy to extremely wealthy buying up lots for retirement homes- or for that third mansion for weeks when Chicago feels too congested.

In the end, regular people cant afford homes in the area. The same thing happened to Jackson's Hole, Wyoming, Maui, Hawaii etc. A version of it also happened in the Texas hill country (really not that hilly- but when the tech executive gets tired of Austin being paved over....).

In Texas however, tradesmen building high end homes and people working the high end restaurants could commute from more affordable Austin or San Antonio. No need for camping during the work week.

But.... people working in Big Sky really cant commute easily from the distant, affordable towns. As for the regular people on Maui, I have no idea what options they have- Probably not many, and all bad.

Sounds like everyone is pitching in and working on this case. Which doesn't surprise me, agencies have a lot of meetings in Montana to work on coordination and often do trainings that include multiple agencies.

I like Springer’s style, open and communicative which engages the public, while not compromising the investigation. Hope the tips are still rolling in.

MOO, having worked extensively with the homeless population in Montana, most folks are just down on their luck, dealing with mental health issues and or substance abuse. We don't see serious violence in this population. Mostly, they stay close to town, because they don't have reliable transportation. They police themselves, and usually will identify outsiders or trouble makers to LEO in the area.

Being unsheltered is not against the law. And until there is definite information from LEO that has identified a specific person, at this point in time, assuming it is an unsheltered person without any other information seems premature.

Mentions some of the items that LE believe were taken from the crime scene:

The murder weapon, two firearms and a Yeti ice chest? I can see taking the axe, it could identify the killer. Firearms, yep. But the Yeti? Why?

Dimensions of the Yeti - ‎26 x 16.5 x 16.1 inches.

Shot gun wouldn’t fit, but I guess the axe would be bloody, so maybe that makes sense.

Perhaps this is random after all? Otherwise why take the firearms? Also tells us someone left in a vehicle, JMO.

Yeti products are expensive and status symbols for some

That cooler would cost $300 new.

It would catch the eye of someone who was living in a tent. It says they have some money to spend. It’s not your Walmart cooler.

When I think cooler, I think beer.

Makes me think he is living in that tent, abandoned the cooler is for his food storage, not a chest of ice for beer.

Anyone think the fact he took that stuff probably means he's got a vehicle?

Heartbreaking interview with Dustin Kjersem’s sister and advocate, Jillian Price. She further humanizes and brings her brother’s story to life by describing how sweet and kind he was, how great an uncle, brother and father he was and his love for camping, fishing and snowboarding.

She states she hopes others will always remember him by how caring he was and by his laugh and reminds readers that he was a well-prepared outdoorsman and had been to that campsite, and even camped there alone, many many times and warns others in the area to be careful and vigilant and asks for anyone with any information to please come forward as LE emphasized that the perp possibly poses a danger to the public or those near them based on the nature of their heinous crime.

There is a fundraiser for DK’s children who his sister identified as both a daughter and stepson.

Unfortunately, according to the article, JP is also currently living in fear for her own safety and that of her children as the perp is still out there and is unidentified.

Does anyone have any color on why in the obit it would mention being survived by a stepson but not some kind of spouse / partner?

I know situations can be complicated, but my general notion is that an ex’s child isn’t commonly referred to as a stepchild?
