Arrest Made - Dustin Kjersem, 35, killed while camping, 911 caller thought bear attack, sheriff says murder, Oct. 12, 2024

Thank you! Can I put you down as my "go to" person for court dates? TIA! :)
Sure, now that I finally figured out how to use the Gallatin website. It had stymied me until today it finally gave me what I wanted!
unfortunately, no charging documents have been filed, though the local media has copies.

Or in North Dakota, Alberta, British Columbia for that matter.
Definitely NE Oregon, Eastern Washington (especially disappearances in reservation areas), Idaho, its pubs have lots of conversationalists in his style, part of BC but way more so, Alberta (I don’t know if a professional felon has a passport, but enhanced drivers license might be easier to obtain). He likes quiet places without many people? All of MT borders then. I am looking at Route 2, it is long but a very specific place for hunters. Maybe even Western Dakotas. He may be one of these.

Sometimes the local sheriff website will have links forms to fill out to get charges documents and arrest warrants

I believe an argument ensued, probably political in nature. Perhaps Dustin tried to get him to leave. I am sure Dustin realized shortly into their conversation that the guy was a Nazi racist. I do not think he noticed the Nazi necklace at first meet and tatts must have been covered by clothing. I just can't see Dustin inviting a Nazi skinhead in for a beer. DK sounds like a really good person. Anyways, DA became enraged at what he perceived an offense in his disturbed mind. I do not think DK was asleep. DA was enraged. IMO the robbery was an afterthought. Because as we all know, criminals are opportunists.

Sadly, I think it could have been simpler. He is a predator and a chronic convict.

And as I opined ^^^...

We have data posted here that may put DA in Oregon 2004/5, apparently having moved from Reno after the apartment he shared with Holten was raided by the FBI.

Couple that with an unsolved 2005 homicide case at a remote campsite in Oregon @RickshawFan posted, and I wonder... Do these dots connect?

I submitted this to a detective at the Gallilatin County Sheriff's Office, FWIW.

IMO.

Tuesday, November 26th:
*Initial Appearance Hearing (@ 9am MT) - MT - *Dustin Mitchell Kjersem (36) was last seen on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024 & was found dead in his tent on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024 along Moose Creek Road north of Big Sky, MT. - *Daren Christopher Abbey (41) arrested 10/24/24 (unrelated charges [parole violation]) & charged (11/1/24) with deliberate homicide & 2 counts of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. Originally bond denied. Bond set at $1.5M (11/1/24). Gallatin County
Judge Peter B. Ohman presiding.
Case & Court info from 10/25/24 thru 11/1/24 reference post #499 here:
https://www.websleuths.com/forums/t...heriff-says-murder-oct-12-2024.726290/page-25

11/15/24 Update: Re charging documents: Two shot glasses with residue believed to be Tequila were found. Multiple beer cans & bottles scattered around the site. Beer cans from inside the tent were used to collect DNA samples. Oct 25, the results on the DNA were returned. At the same time, tips had come in about a "skinhead dude" & they collected video evidence from Big Sky Resort. Images matched DA's driver's ID. The explanation of self defense that DA gave: DA says he & DK were hanging out inside the tent when DA's dog hopped on to DK's air mattress, leaving muddy paw prints. DA claims DK threatened that he was going to shoot him & kill his dog. DA says that's when he killed DK. Prosecutors say this story does not add up. Next initial appearance hearing on 11/26/24 @ 9am.

Daren Christopher Abbey, 41, told District Court Judge Peter Ohman on Tuesday: “I definitely plead not guilty. Dustin Kjersem tried to kill me,” the Bozeman Daily Chronicle reported. He also pleaded not guilty to tampering with evidence.
Abbey said he did not report the fight because he had a felony record. He acknowledged taking a cooler of beer and guns from the crime scene and then returning the next day to look for a beanie he believed he might have left there. He told investigators he also took two cellphones and items out of Kjersem's truck, charging documents say.

Wasn't able to get a time, but apparently a bond hearing was reserved during last Tuesday's hearing. jmo

@georgiajean, any info from the county's site?

Well, he has nothing to lose to drag this out as long as possible. They could go Death Penalty, or life in prison without parole.

This took three years to go through the final details. So, I guess this may not take quite as long, as the murder in this case, was right before Covid-19.
