Maybe this is the smoking gun:

>>Early Thursday, Lafayette police officer Kyle Manceaux obtained surveillance video footage from The Daily Advertiser. The footage included views of Bertrand Drive between the hours of midnight and 4 a.m. on May 19. The police department would not confirm whether the footage was related to the arrest.<<

I would imagine it was the final straw, at the very least...although it appears they may have had him in their sights for weeks now. Which explains a lot, actually, as far as not hearing a peep from LE. Good job to them.

i believe he is on linkedin. i won't post it but it says that he was the lead service mechanic at Wood Group.

Apparently a woman stayed with him from time to time per the interview with his neighbors.

Suggestion: why not go back and either remove said links on those posts, or <modedit> the posts with a message stating the above? Use Bigass Red Serif Bold font for effect. ;]
Such an excellent suggestion. Thank you. ;)

Mods have been cleaning up the posts all evening, and I'm double checking now to make sure none were missed.

so if he was offshore until today. why didn't they just go out and arrest him offshore? people have been saying it was him since last week and that he was inaccessible until today - which I'm assuming means he was offshore.

First Sierra Lamar & now Mickey Schunick; both innocent victims of stranger sexual predators..so sad..

Less than One Percent of Missing Persons Abducted by Strangers... "My Buttocks"

http://crimeinamerica.net/2010/04/20/missing-persons-aducted-by-strangers/

Apr 20, 2010 – No one is suggesting that stranger abductions do not deserve their fair ... the FBI don't always contain the circumstances of the missing person.
read more-

Jaren Lockhart was a victim of a sex offender as well, though sadly he wasn't a stranger to her. She knew him and trusted him because he was employed by one of the local clubs working the door.

It infuriates me each time a sex offender is arrested in a crime like this. They have no business being among innocent people, able to prey on them and determined not to be caught again by making sure the victim won;t be able to testify or even be found,

As for the Facebook that me be the suspects... Louisiana recently enacted a law (going into effect August 1st, I believe) that sex offenders will have post their status as a sex offender on their facebook page. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/06/21/us-usa-crime-louisiana-facebook-idUSBRE85K1W320120621

Frankly,I think they shouldn't be allowed to have a facebook page but I am glad that Louisiana is moving forward by passing this law.

However, and this is a huge problems with me and a cause I fight for - there in no law that keeps a sex offender from being a firefighter. Yep, that's right, a sex offender can join the fire department ( and we have many small volunteer departments in Louisiana) an background checks aren't always done. We had one on our department and we had to fight to get him kicked off. Our own city council allowed him to stay on the department which is freakin unbelievable. Imagine calling 911 for help and getting sex offender sent to your house. I am currently trying to get a lwa like that on the books where sex offenders (registered or not) be prohibited from being on a fire department. But that's another story.

I am so glad this person has been found and I hope he pays dearly. I am sick and tired of sex offeners and their second chances turning into yet another tragic disappearance and murder of an innocent person. Ok, going to sit on my hands now.

Thanks to everyone her who worked so hard on this case and kept the faith and cared so much. This is not the resolution we would have wanted but at least Mickeys family knows what happened. My prayers go out to her family and to those on this forum who cared so very much for Mickey, whether they knew her or not.

Mickey Schunick has touched many folks from her Lafayette community, the US & beyond.. This has been a very long journey in the search for the truth in her abduction. It saddens me that it ended so tragically.. Praying that she will be reunited with her family and Justice will be served..

I am confident that in time there will be many positives that will come from this tragedy.

Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury,pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

I would have preferred it if the video went to LE on May 20th.

Maybe they did get some confirmation on the video they supposedly reviewed today.

right. last week it only said silverado. i can't remember if it said color. so that that probably was his truck in front of circle K

He also has or had a red Stealth.

Sadly, many of these sex offenders offend again soon after release. It seems unlikely that there weren't any victims in-between his release and Mickey.

Curious if there are any unsolved cases in any of the areas where a Wood Group is located. He has listed two locations as places of employment so he may have traveled to different locations to work.

I was filled with happiness when I logged on and read there was an arrest. But so distraught that its for murder even though it was almost expected this far out. So sad for mickey and her family.

What car dealer are you speaking of?

A member several pages back posted that a friend of his who works at a car dealer contacted LE weeks ago when this man apparently came in to try to get rid of his truck, or exchange it or something, and was acting oddly...

It could be he was also offshore for a long time. Some service hands work for extended periods before they come home.

so how did this arrest happen?

this is just MY :twocents:

1)truck video released and someone turned him in

a) he most likely has been questioned several times and we did not even know it
b)more likely more video that we have not seen showing more

2)FORENSICS
a)most likely on truck and bike.. he is a tier three so his dna is in CODIS
b)time frame of arrest fits with forensics being back
c)forensics on truck? bike? etc

3)Interviews/possible polys?
a)surly they did not arrest this guy on a whiff and whim.. they most likely have interviewed him before the arrest.. so poly? Interview video? I am not seeing a confession but I do see possible phone records that tie him to the area along with video.
b)past history CANNOT BE OVERLOOKED

as for what they release tomorrow.. I bet it will be bare bones.. I personally do not expect much at all. LE has done an EXEMPLARY job here and they are playing this close to the vest. It is all about justice for Mickey.

That seems to coincide with the less-detailed map provided on the RSO site.
Yeah looks like it. I'm glad I had studied the area already otherwise I wouldn't have known what to do :lol

Wouldn't he then be charged with involuntary manslaughter if it was an accident?

I thought it was an accident all along. Guess I am a bad sleuther!

It would still be a kidnapping and capital/first degree murder if he hit her by accident, kidnapped her and then killed her to cover the accident. With his prior conviction he may have panicked thinking he would be sent back to prison. Particularly if he had been drinking.

Pretty certain it is first degree murder any time someone is killed in the commission of or to cover another crime.

Of course, at this point it does not sound like an accident. What are the odds a prior sex offender hit her by accident!
