The whole "lock 'em up and throw away the key" was a favorite of politicians trying to make points with voters. It does not work and is prohibitively expensive. Those same governors who won office by towing that line are now releasing prisoners early to relieve pressure on overcrowded jails.

If you truly believe in this, then you have to back it up with money. A lot of money. And that means taxes.

Id rather then keep the sex offender in jail and let out the others they have in jail for like smoking pot and other crimes. ...... Im very sure they can make room!

Hey just put them in with the general population and let the prisoners solve our problem!

I'm thinking there's either no body that's been found or a body that's in such advanced stages of decomp (a forensic anthropology grad student told me in LA heat that after 2 weeks, a body would likely be skeletonized) that it has yet to be positively ID'ed as Mickey's body (I hated typing that). I hope that latter is the case & it can be positively ID'ed so the Shunicks can give her a proper burial/cremation/etc.
Burning the truck makes me think the murder (and likely a sexual assualt- poor Mickey) happened IN that truck in Lafayette (as murder charges are in Lafayette rather than another parish).
Seems her body could also have been dumped anywhere between Gretna and San Jacinto, Texas though as well if they do not have remains in their possession that they are running tests on to positively ID.
Ugh.

I've seen post after post expressing frustration about this registered sex offender being out of prison. Everyone is asking what can be done about these vile predators.

We have opened a new forum on Websleuths called CAPER, Citizens Against Pedophiles Early Release, located [ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177898"]here[/ame]. You'll also find the link in the notice at the top of each forum. We'll be highlighting cases and asking our Websleuth members to assist in letter writing campaigns against the early release of the convicted sex offenders we highlight.

A lot of you are asking what you can do to help and this is just one small thing you can do to help the cause. This is a Websleuths call to arms. Please take a moment to check out the new Websleuths forum [ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177898"]CAPER[/ame].

In addition, many of you in this forum are new to Websleuths and I get the sad feeling some of you are saying your goodbyes. Please check the many cases we cover daily. There are widespread, growing numbers of children and missing adults who need your help. Whether you felt you provided useful information or not, we feel it's all useful and essential in sleuthing any case. All areas and facts must be explored in these cases and we are extremely proud of our members who choose to dedicate their personal, free time to the cases we cover. Folks, it doesn't end here, it's just beginning and it continues on a daily basis.

Tricia and I are so very proud of our members and we thank you all for being a part of Websleuths.

Also, I agree with the lock and throw away the key in theory, but in practice in addition to defining who that applies to, like someone else said, someone's got to pay for that. I wish it wasn't so damn expensive to keep someone prisoner, but the reality of it is that it is.

Perhaps we just start dropping them off on Alcatraz and leaving them there to deal with the overcrowding and fend for themselves. That'd be a cheap way to handle this problem.

(I am of course not serious)

In response to the question:

What kind of "look" would one need to be a part of the Artmosphere crowd?

Is the creepy-looking guy in the dark blue T-shirt really the Artmosphere type? I find it hard to believe that Mickey and he would frequent the same type of night club. . .

Doubtful. I'd be willing to bet that more of that crowd looks like BW or the lead singer of the Spin Doctors than like BSL.

Can anyone explain? Is it just my bias?

JMO. TIA.

Artmosphere is a hookah bar with live music, decent food, and a pretty common young adult hangout spot in Lafayette.

I always try to keep an open mind until I know all of the facts. Does anyone know more details about his prior offense? I see that the victim was a teenager. Tying up and all sounds really bad but it didn't say he raped or sodomized her which happens so often in these cases.

I am NOT defending him in any way!

Years ago I had a friend that was arrested for playing a sex game with his girlfriend that was a teenager. He was about 20 she was 16 I think. Her parents read her diary and really pushed hard for charges of rape. He was convicted and spent a few years in prison. Now everyone thinks he is a horrible monster and he's actually a very nice attractive responsible person. Made a bad decision based on the laws with minors but in my opinion, not a serious offense. I mean, my grandmother married a 30 yr old man when she turned 15. The way it was back with the pioneers.

Lavergne appears on the Louisiana Sate Police website as a registered sex offender. The website says Lavergne was convicted in 2000 of aggravated oral sexual battery. He was released from prison in 2008.

MOO but perhaps the billions sent to other Countries may be better spent taking care of the Home front. These guys are released and more often than not continue and/or escalate. A quick browse on these boards really brings the issue home. My heart goes out to all victims and their families.

I'm now reading that BSL spent some time in the mental institution in Pineville, possibly dealing with PTSD after his time in the military.

I have the Affidavit saved to my computer.
These are two screen shots I have taken.
It seems to me he confessed.
JMO though

No, it's saying that the officer requesting the warrant has sworn that Lavergne on May 19th, kidnapped and committed 1st degree murder. It's the way warrants are obtained.

There should be special prisons for sexual predators. They cannot be rehabilitated. A place like Alcatraz would work either in the swamps surrounded by alligator pits or off the coast with an area filled with sharks. Each state must have areas that are equally dangerous.

Oh Wow. She isn't alive than. He killed her on the same day he kidnapped her according to the affidavit... I hope he at leasts lets them know where he put her body or what he did with it.

Yes something wrong. Very wrong. If we look at Ronald Cummings who gets 25 years for dealing and this guy is out in 8? Not condoning drug dealing but sheesh :banghead:

Idk, but seems to me it would be just as expensive to retry these repeat offenders as to just keep them in prison, maybe more so. I'm talking specifically about repeat offenders, or those determined to fit the psychological profile of such. I'm assuming that profile would very likely include antisocial personality disorder as well as some other indicators, such as a history of violence toward women, and also concerning their perceptions and relationships with women, etc. Not positive of course, so now see I need to do some research. :sigh:

Plus we have to look at how high risk they are, and consider the victims that wouldn't have been victims if these type of offenders had been kept incarcerated.

I personally didn't realize that phrase "lock 'em up and throw away the key" had been used in a political realm. But then, what do I know... :dunno:.

He could of taken a train or bus.

In that case, his credit/debit purchases will be interesting.. Also, didn't someone say that he claimed his truck was stolen in Texas while at a dealership? Wonder if he reported it stolen.. If not, way to place yourself at the scene. Jeez.
