Aruba orders release of US man suspected in death

The Associated Press

A judge in Aruba has ordered the release of a U.S. businessman detained in connection with the August death of his traveling companion.

The judge says Gary Giordano must be freed on Tuesday without any conditions. Prosecutors have until then to appeal the decision.

That amazes me too and no, it does not make sense. It is not the first time someone has disappeared without a trace on Aruba. In fact, there are many others who have. It is weird. An entire family of 4 disappeared! It is just crazy. Here is the list of those who have gone missing, without a trace on Aruba. I'm sure there are many more that are not on this list.

People need to check in their own neighbourhoods.

Giordano made a passionate argument for his release, Lejuez said.

The prosecution's appeal of Friday's order could be heard anytime between Friday and Tuesday, including the possibility of a weekend hearing, Stein said.

There are more missing in the US than there will ever be in Aruba. I realize that it is not uncommon. It is strange, just in my opinion, that people can disappear without a trace (keywords) off of an island so small. If she had been in the water, something would have surfaced, a snorkle, a piece of clothing, something.

It is a de ja vu of Natalee Holloway all the way to the prosecutors having four months to develop a plan which obviously they haven't done. They didn't even send the items for forensics in Holland until almost 2 months had passed and, how long did they wait to search?

I thought they learned their lesson. I was very very wrong.

There are cases tried in the United States everyday where there is no body. You do not know if you will be able to do so unless you TRY. If that man leaves Aruba it will be done and they will never try him for anything. My hope now lies in our own FBI who I hope have something, anything from his computers and from the grand jury.

Stephanie Flores may still be alive had Aruba stepped up to the plate in the Holloway case.

Giordano is a bad man. One consolation is that his life will never be the same again and, here in MD, he is not well liked. He'll have to answer to a higher authority than us someday.

I didn't realize I wasn't allowed to say Holloway or Flores in this thread. I did so because it is the same legal system albeit not the same case. It won't happen again.

It is what it is. We are entitled to our opinions which at times differ. I do believe what goes around comes around eventually tho and that has been proven in a few other cases that I won't mention in this thread where perpetrators ended up in jail anyway. Karma came back around to bite them because when people feel they are godlike because they have pulled the wool over the legal system, they eventually screw up somewhere else.

However, I do not think bashing a country's legal system because it is different than yours is productive. I also do not think bringing up unrelated cases brings us any closer to learning the truth about RG, JMO

Its obvious to me that they simply do not have evidence to convict

The fact is RG is still missing and we do not know where, how or why
I don't really care what happens to GG when and if he returns to the US
I care about finding out what happened to RG

If the signature was fraudulent, wouldn't that be motive?

FBI and/or LE must feel confident that RG signed the policy

It would be but you're right I think she probably signed it. I remember reading somewhere that she had signed one before too but then cancelled the trip. I can't remember where I saw that at.

Since he had a habit of making women do this it is not unusual in this instance at least in my mind.

I didn't ever believe it was about the insurance money. You cannot collect on that if there is no body for at least 7 years and I think that he would have known that.

Only GG knows the truth. But, maybe there's something on his computer at home related to it. We'll just have to see what happens if he is released.

There has been no mention of the grand jury since the day they convened. So it's anyone's guess. That day all they said on the local news was that a Frederick grand jury was convening in the GG matter. Then nothing all these months. Who knows, they may even have worked it out that he would come home and be charged. We do not know what type of communication our FBI and Aruba have had but I have no doubt they are working together. I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.
