* Interviewer - Gary, you have said a storm came in at this moment, and that's what put you in distress. You didn't say that just now, but you have said it in the past. Is that what happened?

Gary - No, I've never said there was a storm. What I have said is later on the next day I noticed on the news that there was a tropical storm north of the island which was causing the wind to become windy one moment and dead the next moment. So there was no storm, no freak storm that came up and washed us out to the ocean. That was, I believe, some other reporter had mentioned that as a statement before a question.

Eh! don't think so LC! Just water was rough--Perhaps it was the NE that published this, and that would have to be dismissed.

Furthermore one is responsible for the death of their passenger or other when "drunk" because the act of "driving under the influence" is an illegal act in itself, thus the DUI law. Doubt there is a "SUI" (snorkeling under the influence??) law--but then again You know Aruba.

Even JM in the latest ABC interview which is linked a couple of posts up states he said so on GMA and then GG tries to cover his tracks by saying he saw it on the news the next day that there was a storm at sea......There was no storm at sea and the weather station they get down there is a local station from GA not Aruba. I would think the Aruban authorities would have known whether there was a storm in the area that night when GG is saying there was a storm coming in. He did say it and he is stuck with that lie. Keep em comin GG you are doing a fantastic job. Wonder if the Grand Jury is still convening? jmo

That was the only reference to a "storm" I heard. The storm was the reason for his flight change.

Maybe because my grandchildren and friends are blond that I notice they get far more attention from the native Arubans. Years ago an owner of a famous restaurant in Aruba came flying across the airport lobby area to give my grandson a hug goodbye. I had noticed her while we were having dinner a few nights before and she stopped at our table to talk. My grandson was 2 years old at the time and had blond curly hair. She was the first one I heard say how much Arubans love blond hair. After that I noticed that what she had said was pretty much true. But you can say the same for here in the US. Did I conduct a formal survey.....no.....I pay attention. When blond hair is on a woman men pay attention......not so much when the blond is a male. It's just a fact. I stand corrected though about every Aruban, you are correct....let's just say that every male pays attention to the blonds and that is everywhere. jmo

LambChop, it was just a joke. I have no idea how it came to be blown out of proportion. As a former blond (now grey), I know perfectly well that people in countries where everyone has dark hair tend to be fascinated with those of us who look like Northern Europeans.

I was just chuckling that in a post where you accused me of speculating, you made a casual remark about "every" Aruban.

But I know what you meant and I agree: RG would tend to attract attention from certain people in Aruba, particularly in parts of the island that see fewer tourists.

Hulu - ABC Good Morning America: Gary Giordano Interview

I did not hear him say anything about the storm in this interview with Robin but it is referenced that he did mention it and I believe this is what he told the investigators. What he claims is that the plane he was scheduled to leave on was delayed because the Charlotte airport was closed due to a storm north of the island. The Charlotte Airport is in North Carolina and would in no way effect Aruba. It's a 2 1/2 hour flight to Charlotte so any storm that had been in Charlotte at the time would have moved on by the time he would catch his flight that was scheduled to leave 2 hours later so that is another false statement. That would have been 4 hours and plenty of time for that storm to move on. Now in the latest ABC interview he claims he saw it on the news the next day that there was storm out at sea and that is what he was talking about. Maybe he needs to take lessons from KC. jmo

When Natalee went missing I seem to remember a lot of people thinking they had seen her- they hadn't, but they'd seen other blondes who resembled her.

I don't have the rules of the Florida bar in front of me, but if it could be proven that Baez told a p.r. client (or anyone else) to commit perjury, I suspect the Florida bar could take action whether or not Baez was actually working as a Florida attorney.

There seems to be an assumption here that a lawyer can only act as an attorney in the jurisdiction(s) where s/he passed the bar. That is true in terms of court appearances, but not for all matters. I've spent decades working for large, international corporate law firms and we had clients all over the U.S. and even the world.

Yes, we had to hire local counsel in order to make trial appearances in jurisdictions where our attorneys hadn't passed the bar; but the deficiency didn't stop us from representing clients up and until it came time to appear in court or to file a motion.

I think any attorney with an ounce of common sense would tell GG to shut his trap before he's trapped for good. He's not doing too well with the media right now. You could say the same about a woman who gets in a car with someone who is drunk. Maybe it was just a little too convenient having too much to drink, having taken sleeping pills, driving her to the beach area to snorkel, bringing her to a beach at sundown and encouraging her to go into the water after cutting her toe, putting her on his policy with 1.5M payoff. I don't know, why wouldn't we think he bears some responsibility. We aren't suppose to let people drive drunk. If they get served in a bar, leave drunk and kill someone the bar is held responsible. If it was an accident he was negligent. And another thing why would she go into the water just after cutting her toe enough to leave blood behind. She could have gotten sick water getting into her cut or was she just too drunk to think logically.

His story keeps changing, every show he's on it keeps changing and you can see the irritation in his face when he is called on it. Clearly he knows they are pulling apart everything he says and no one believes him. Good work JB, just keep it up. jmo

I know...I was grabbing at straws. I just don't think it was an accident. He paid for her trip, paid for the insurance, paid for their hotel, paid for the car, probably the booze and my guess the meals, too. So she was pretty much a captive audience. I sure would like to know if the sighting at the dog's grave yard really did happen. It would explain a lot.

I don't think Aruba has a Dram Shop Act, lol. And I doubt they have the charge of negligent homicide. I do know they protect their own. jmo

I don't know about the g.j., but I agree with you that a good attorney would tell his client to shut up, particularly when that client is as prickly and quick to bristle as GG.

But we know there are attorneys such as Mark Geragos, Gloria Allred and, it seems, Jose Baez who thrive on the media whirl; they seem to act as p.r. reps as much as attorneys. (I'm not saying these people are all bad attorneys. I haven't followed their careers that closely. I'm just saying they seem to prefer high-profile cases.)

I find all of this bizarre. Why allow cameras to be present when you see your kids for the first time in more than four months? Why have them lined up behind you like bodyguards on GMA? Why agree to be on GMA and then take offense and refuse to answer when they ask you what happened on the day your friend disappeared?

I believe providing his/Robyn's own alcohol was another way of him avoiding the insurance claim being thrown out. If they didn't purchase alcohol at the bar, there is no physical proof they were drinking.

That's a good point ... but in the mean time we discovered that he bought a bottle of vodka, that Robyn had a couple of drinks earlier in the day (almost as soon as she woke up IIRC) and he was ducking out to the car with the blue cups. Also, as posted upthread, even authorities thought he was drunk. I see no good reason for GG to get any insurance money.
