Yes the ex friend challenges you to ask the question don't they.
IMO the ex-friend/former friend is an ex-girlfriend or fiancee and the reference to reading his history is his Facebook.

The Crime Stoppers informant spoke exclusively to The Advertiser
I understand that The Advertiser and The NT News are part of the same news network, but why say they were exclusive to each other?
Also adding that we have only heard this 'story' from one person - the carer who was charged with possession/the Crimestoppers Informant.
IMO he's either sold the story or is trying to cover himself somehow, I very much doubt he's a close family friend if he's letting out this type of information about Karlie.
Good point, Makara. 'Readable history' is still a weird turn of phrase, don't you think? I don't think I've ever heard it before. To me, it conjures up a professional's comment. Journalistic writing style maybe?
The man who made the Crimestopper's report has spoken exclusively to NT News. He said threats had been made to kill Ms. Pearce-Stevenson and a bounty of up to $5000 was offered for information on her whereabouts.
This informant had moved in with Karlie's 80 year old grandmother to look after her. He and the grandmother were both charged with possession of cannabis in August 2010.
This bloke's story just gets better with each reporting! If, as he says, death threats were made to Karlie, why didn't he go to the police and report it at the time? Why wait for years and then contact Crimestoppers and also speak exclusively to a newspaper?
He also dumped the dirt on Karlie's grandmother. IMO all of the cannibis belonged to the him. He persuaded her to take the rap for some of it to lessen his sentence. Karlie and her grandmother are no longer here to defend themselves. Very convenient for the informant IMO.
I personally don't believe a word of what this informant has to say but I would love to know the reason why he's talking now.

Daniel James Holdom has a history of unhappy relationships with women, was easily dominated and had been seeking a mother and someone to love him, his former friend said.
Former neighbours of the *couple, who lived in various states and territories over the past decade, said they had a volatile relationship and Ms Passmore was seen as the dominant one of the two.

Do easily dominated men have volatile relationships? I don't think so.
That was my weird turn of phrase when I paraphrased from the article. "If you read his history" is a more accurate interpretation.
I tend to agree with you, this is just an idea: what if he went with Karlie, a very young, vulnerable single mum, as a kind of release from HP's dominance?
Or, he could have been feigning a vulnerable persona to his friends, to make himself look innocent and harmless?

IMO the scholarly term "readable history" usually indicates that something is easily read, clear and well documented when reviewed retrospectively over a period of time.BTW, what is "a readable history"?

Interesting term in this context. I assumed that he has a "well documented" history with social services, and other government agencies.
If this is an actual "quoted" term it probably indicates that this person has some academic background (again IMO).
Woops also just read back .. Makara your academic background is showing..
'Holdom had a history of unhappy relationships with women, and was easily dominated.. ' blah blah..
*snort* .. Hitler loved his dog, Blondie.... Goering adored his wife, Joe Korp idolised his son, Gerard Baden-Clay worshipped his daughters, Simon Gittany loved the woman he threw out of the 25th floor balcony, and so on...
And some women are easily fooled into believing that the man is easily dominated. It's the manipulator manipulating the easily manipulated.
I can't see him keeping up a pretence of being vulnerable in his 'type of world' iykwim.
As to Karlie being a vulnerable single mum, possible but if friends have described her as being a bit of a firecracker I can't see her being too vulnerable even at her age.
