I can say the carer is a junkie.. a fine for possessing marijuana is all it takes. There are no degrees of junkieism.. one is, or one isn't, and if you are in the unfortunate position of being found to possess an illegal amount , then the title of junkie is entirely appropriate..

So. junkie, it is..

Like JaneSA, I don't think of a person with a marijuana habit as a junkie; that's a term I'd reserve for a heroin addict. Googling the definition of "junkie", I find most sources only require addiction to "a drug" to qualify as a junkie, and comparatively fewer specify "usually heroin". I'd have been wrong if I pulled you up on it, but I'm not alone in not considering a marijuana user to be a junkie.

"Pothead" would have been my choice of descriptor :)

Yep, I wondered previously on this thread how he could know she never purchased the drugs.
I am guessing that the $25k was taken/stolen from her and she told the carer when trying to get help.
I'm imagining a scene that goes "give us the money first and we'll be back with the drugs", except the seller never came back.

Given that her mother was helping her by paying money into her account, probably all 3 (mother, grandmother and carer) knew how much trouble she was in.
And once the word got around about the $5k bounty they'd have been so scared for her and Khandles.
Gosh, they'd be beside themselves with worry!

As for why the carer didn't alert the police at the time, I'd assume that the police are considered the natural enemy of anyone involved with drug distribution.
Telling the police what was going on, while it might seem obvious to anyone who lives on the right side of the law, would have seemed like dobbing Karlie in and potentially exposing her to even greater danger from whoever was after her.

Even the missing persons report being so quickly stopped makes sense now.
Possibly they just thought better of it and worried they would be risking exposing Karlie by asking her to come home.
.

the $25,000 taken or stolen from her... this is still in the realm of unsupported junkie ramblings from one junkie.. not even a conglomerate.. one lone junkie is telling this story, apparently... one lone junkie with a dream of $25,000

And once the word got around about the $5k bounty... again.. the same source as the $25,000 unsupported, uncorroborated and very very late in the scheme of things... .. who says the word got round?? who says there was a bounty?? let us keep in mind the source of things.. let us not go off into the world of delusion.

As for why the carer didn't alert the police at the time,... notifying the police of an entirely imaginary tale under those circumstances would have been absurd.. doing it now makes perfect sense, if you are a rambling junkie..

As for the bit where no impersonator calls Colleen, or others of the family, this is stepping into what I am prepared to call victimising the victims all over again.. to make such an imputation is really way out of line and honestly, it just has no part in a forum such as this..

and as for the remainder of Karlie's family, they have been extremely dignified in not giving the carer the time of day, rather, they have made it quite clear that they will let justice take its course, which leaves me with the distinct impression that the junkie carer will get his, if , indeed, it hasn't already happened...

I believe the Nana was also charged.

I am happy to have my credentials certified with Moderation. I have a Diploma in Drug and Alcohol ....and have worked in a Rehab centre for young adults aged 18 - 25......lol....just wanted to say that...as I have no further claim to fame....

Someone being busted with 38grams of cannabis.....maybe a *Junkie*......or not...I would suspect... to come to that assumption on so little information would be based on individual opinions......

There are so many variables we are not privy to in this situation...

Depending on ....

If this was a *One Off* situation.....

Covering for someone else...

Having possession of - but not actually being a user...

But having said that..... the article also stated the cannabis was found following a search of Nanna's house......

To me the bigger question is.....why was Nana's house searched in August 2010 in the first place???.....gives a reason to pause and think....

Does not mention the date Pug
Connie was concerned that Karlie had not touched her centerlink payments for a fortnight she became concerned......late in 2008 began looking for her..

I'm having a complete brain fart.....where did I come up with that date of the 4th of September.....I wrote it down...

Thanks soso...

ETA: Can't wrap my thoughts around why I thought Karlie had been possibly been killed earlier than the 14/15 of December 2008..... But I think it was something to do with the date.....grrrrr

Trooper, I was considering how deeply they cared for Karlie, nothing more.

Yes, she was charged and it's on the public record.
Great minds think alike and all that - I also wondered what prompted the police to search the home of an 80yo.

fact is.... the call from the impersonator, documented by the police, from phone records, from Karlie's phone, after her death seems to make no difference to the story that is being attempted here, the one about 'perhaps' no body actually made that call.

There are points in any story , as the current junkie's story will no doubt fall over , where the teller has to confront opposing facts and back off from a program of delusionary scenarios. . .. the phone calls from someone impersonating Karlie did in fact happen, and while one may choose to 'feel' that they didn't, they actually did. That's how it is.

I may not agree with everyones opinions or even their ideas...

But that is exactly what this forum is for...

If we all agreed all the time and went with the same thought process...then there would be no discussion.

I say embrace our difference's and share ideas.....no one would be here in the first instance if they truly didn't care about the victims???

Have you seen the police confirm that anywhere with reference to Karlie's own phone records?
I haven't, but may have missed it.
I thought the reports of calls made from Karlie's phone had come from her family and friends.
Happy to be wrong on this point, so if you have a link could you post it please?

Why do I have the 4th of September being the date Nana was concerned that Karlie hadn't touched her centelink payments....it's driving me crazy!!!!

The link no longer works, but I believe this was it:

It was when Mrs Duffy opened her granddaughter’s mail and noticed her Centrelink payments had not been touched for a fortnight that she and friends first suspected something was wrong and began looking for Ms Pearce-Stevenson in late 2008.

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/new...-1227599497241

The grandmother noticed that Karlie had not used her centerlink payments for a fortnight.
I am not placing judgement but if I were to open my child's mail I do not think I would notice they had not used their centerlink payments unless I was looking specifically for that.
Which would mean I already had some concerns.
This is when they began looking ... at the end of 2008.
Began looking ... where and how?
How long did Karlies mail continue to go to grandmothers?

Police believe those responsible for her murder retained the phone in order to dupe Ms Pearce-Stevenson's family members into believing she was still alive.
It's known that the phone's message bank was accessed by the offender/s and text messages sent to the murdered woman's mother, inducing her to send money to the bank account.

A woman impersonated Ms Pearce-Stevenson also had brief conversations with family members.

THanks for that Soso!

Thanks JaneSA..... just wish I could find the exact article that mentioned the 4th of September.....not even sure if it's important...

It's like when you have a name or answer to a question on the tip of your tounge and can't remember...and it does your head in...

I'll eventually remember and go...DUH!!!

I embrace differences like a champion.. what I don't have to embrace is continuing error and supposition that has no basis in fact as is so far known.. embracing that would be silly.. almost as silly as arguing with various folks as to what to call a drug user.. pothead, junkie, stoner whatever.. one can always get people to disagree on any damn thing at all, hey..

so far, though we have, as a group laid to rest the assumption or suggestion that Karlie's family didn't get calls from the impersonator. The police say they did, and that's good enough for me.

and so far, what we all have, whatever we want to call him, I choose to call him a junkie, is one lone story teller in regard to the $25,o00, the $5000 bounty, the running away, the hiding, the missing drugs, the buy that wasn't made, .. all these claims from one junkie, who , after many years of nobly saying nothing now is blabbing on a daily basis with absolutely no corroboration, backup, or empirical evidence that any of this crazed story has truth in it.

And yet, the story is hashed and rehashed and whole long and convoluted elaborate scenarios are built into this peculiar and flawed story. .. who has the time for that?

Thank you so so much Sleep .....this is further confirmation...

I am thinking of another article.... though...I think....and it was one where the Carer of Nana mentioned that date as being the one that Nana looked at Karlie's mail and noticed she hadn't touched her centrelink payments in two weeks.....that would make it prior!!...before September the 4th???? So what was going on prior to the 4th of September 2008.....we don't know..do we...

Not sure if it's important..... just curious ...that's all.
