SIAI-Marchetti S.211 Viper 1 in a 2 aircraft “Viper formation” with Viper 2 (VH-DZJ, C/N 002-05-005). Suffered a midair collision over Port Phillip Bay, Victoria, with Viper 2, another SIAS-Marchetti S.211 Marchetti. Viper 1, landed safely at Essendon Airport. Viper 1 made a Mayday call reporting wing leading edge damage and that Viper 2 was in the water, they had observed a splash. Reported 2 POB in both aircraft. Viper 1 landed safely at runway 26 at Melbourne-Essendon Fields Airport (the longer runway of 1,921 metres).Incident SIAI-Marchetti S.211 VH-DQJ,

Wreckage of plane that crashed in Melbourne's Port Phillip bay found, police say
Police say they have found the fuselage of a plane which crashed into Port Phillip bay on Sunday. The wreckage will be removed from the water and searched.www.abc.net.au
Police said they would remove the wreckage from the water before searching the fuselage.
It's understood pilot Stephen Gale and camera operator James Rose were onboard the aircraft when it crashed, after colliding with another plane.
Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) Chief Commissioner Angus Mitchell said the two planes were believed to be conducting a promotional film or photo shoot prior to the collision.
RIP Messrs. Gale and Rose.
