Australia AUSTRALIA - 4YO AUGUST (GUS) Missing from rural family home in Outback, Yunta, South Australia, 27th Sept 2025

They sure are interested in that dam.

I remember back at the start, people were asking if he could be autistic or special needs, while the searching was going on. I never heard any comments or confirmations but just wondering if that is why there is so much interest in the water?
He's a kid under the age of five. Yes, there's a high rate of autistic kids who drown, but the rates for preschoolers and toddlers in general aren't great either. That's why pool fence laws are a big deal at least in my state.

The police said they would drain a large dam located about 600m from the homestead.
The dam, which is about 4.5m deep, was previously searched by police divers in the initial days of the search for Gus.
“The draining of the dam will enable a comprehensive visual search to be completed, particularly areas with underwater vegetation,” police said on Thursday morning.
“The renewed search of the dam is being undertaken to rule out the possibility Gus may have drowned.”....

To me it seems to be very possible, if little Gus went there, because it is close enough to the home. But I'm asking myself: Why did he even start his adventurous way to the dam (if)? Is the walk there somehow exciting for a little 4yo boy?

It’s muddy near the waters edge .
Wouldn’t a footprint be seen if Gus had entered the water?
Yeah I'm a little baffled that if he is in the dam then how no trace on the edge wasn't found. I guess if it was windy the water may of lapsed over and covered any clue, but normally a dam's edge is quiet slippy.

I wonder if his mum and grandmother were tending sheep in that direction
That would be the answer to my own question, why little Gus could have walked in this direction.

I'm hoping they figured out a way to preserve most of that water. Maybe a bunch of large trucks that could replenish the dam after the search?
Yes I'm hoping they are draining via big water tank trucks and then going to refill after search has been complete.

Water is definitely precious out there and it would cost a fortune to truck water back in to replenish it.

Could it be a sharp drop to the water, and hard sides that don't take prints leading up to the drop?

Not 100% sure, but if 7news reported correctly at the time when news broke on where everyone was that day on the farm. 7 news had placed them 10km north of the homestead. The way I understood it and by the image they showed, they were attending sheep on property North of Oak Park Road, near what appears to be the junk yard. I had mentioned this and provided a link of 7news coverage back in the thread.

If it's a dam stock drink directly from, that's highly unlikely as it would present a drowning or stranding risk for them. But if it's a reservoir that's fenced off from them, who knows.

Going by images of the larger dam it doesn't appear to be a large sharp drop. The edges also do look like they could be quite muddy.

One of the smaller dams appears to have a larger/steep drop and a more rocky edge. This clip shows 1 of the smaller dams.

I could pop a good handful or two of links here about missing little ones who have been found deceased in a property's dam here in Australia. Unfortunately, it seems that every year (?) a child is lost in this way.

Playing in or with water is such an attraction for little ones. I don't think it has anything to do with any condition or disability. It is their innocence and lack of experience. imo

Eg: (2 more recent ones)
Nov 2024: Toddler dies after being pulled from a dam near Lithgow in NSW Central West
March 2025: Toddler drowns on rural property in Victoria's north

We should know if he’s in there tomorrow

I was looking at the video in this link. It looks like the dark edges are some kind of weed/grass. There is pretty close footage of the divers standing on it.

It's at around the 40 sec mark in the video.

Is that really evidence though? It's a missing child nowhere to be found, zero trace. Since when do police just take people's word at face value?

If he was there that day like they say there'd be ample evidence. He's 4 so he'd likely not be fully potty trained and would be likely still in pull ups or nappies at night time.
I'm so far behind in this case....
However:
I think he would quite possibly be toilet trained, during the day at least. As a little boy, living in the country, no neighbours in sight, I wonder if he would bother coming inside to use the toilet for #1's? If not, he very well may have urinated outside during the day - it would depend on how long he was outside that day.

Last known proof of life from someone outside of the 3 adults living at the property would be interesting to know too.

From the article above:
"The dam is about 600m from the homestead and is about 4.5m deep."

So close and so deep! Would something like his hat have floated to the surface by now though? I'm not sure how I feel if Gus turns out to have been in the dam so close to home all along.
I was thinking of his mum. Imagine being inside the house and finding out police are draining the dam. It's like you don't want to think of your child being in the water that whole time whilst you were at the property going about your daily activities.

It's all so creepy and horrible. My heart really breaks especially for Jess and her partner Joshua.

I hope they can get answers soon. It must be unbearable.

Imo

I’m already wondering if Gus isn’t found in the dam tomorrow whether he might be in one of the other dams .

Yeah looks like there is some pretty thick vine type of vegetation within the dam. You can see it all stuck on this diver.

I'm not sure if the pile in the other picture is vegetation that they have pulled out as well. Looks like it's been dragged out.

Or is it a half eaten bale of hay?
