Moo.. guess you didn't read the last DM article about Josh's personality
If that comment was aimed at me - falling out with people for running your mouth and pulling a gun on someone in a fit of rage are a little different. At least they are in my world.

If that comment was aimed at me

I took the comment as a response to a previous post that quoted "Josh has been banned from the homestead" Link

Likely due to this line about Josh from the latest DM article. 'He is always falling out with people for running his mouth off"

imo

Yes , it [the mention by MSM or LE of a shovel] was in the first few reports on this thread page 1to 3 I think
I imagine Gus' sand shovel looks like this, below... something brightly colored and small.

And while I quietly catch up on this thread, this one piece of data puzzles me.

Sure, LE may know very well where Gus' shovel is. But without an update of its whereabouts to the public, it leaves much to the imagination.

Wouldn't Gus have dropped the shovel at some point during his trek into the wilderness at dusk? And wouldn't the shovel's likely bright color have been spotted, especially by arial searches?

Wherever the shovel is, may IMO shed light on where Gus could be.

I'm a U.S. citizen, born and raised, and quite familiar with firearms. I know culture is different in Australia, without doubt. From my perspective, to carry that shotgun out to speak with a reporter who is invading that property owners space might be acceptable, however, to lift it and have the muzzle raise so as to point in the direction of another is an entirely different matter.

We don't know what transpired in the moments or minutes leading up to this, do we? This may have been the end of a confrontation, not the beginning.

I sense these folks on this ground are rugged individualists, and they simply do not need, nor wish to have intruders traipsing about...I personally can't blame 'em. Heck, even here in my little part of the world, I tell people to stay off my ground. Private property means just that.

I think DM likely in the wrong here, that's how I see it. Had they contacted this family ahead of time, and requested an interview, the situation may have been different, however, they likely wouldn't even had gotten the interview, hence, the trespass.

I expect they will not trespass any more (at least, in this case).

But it would be great if they were charged with trespass. Enough is enough. Leave the grieving family alone.

imo
And we have seen the sign at the gate that says No Trespassing.

No I believe it was too me. Yes I absolutely read the whole article and seen Josh has a possible temper as well.

But like I said it's his son that is missing and he should be within his rights to keep looking for him.

A 4 yr old child is missing, a 4 yr old child that needs to be found and any rifts between the family should be put aside until Gus is found imo.

That didn't happen. The shotgun was pointed at the ground, straight up (vertically) in the air for a moment, then back at the ground. And Josie's hand was nowhere near the trigger. It was further up on the rifle.

Still a threat.

That is not under dispute. She obviously did not carry the rifle out there to wish the trespassers a warm welcome.

It doesn't matter what the signs say, the family has asked for their privacy.

The DM reporters knew that and went there anyway, to "get a story"

I wonder if his mum and grandmother were tending sheep in that direction
Good question! I've also wondered if the mom and grandparent were actually together during that time. I know they reported them to have been off tending sheep about 10km away when Gus would've been last seen near the home. But I wonder if the two of them were in the same place the entire time? I assume whatever they were doing out there away from the home took hours to do, maybe kept them away all day. Were there times during the day when one was working one place and the other somewhere else, even if nearby? Just something I wondered.

This draining the dam doesn't feel like they are searching for a kid that's drowned. The chances of, no footprints, no items like a hat or a shoe dropped on the way or floating on the surface, and of course the body sinking are extremely minimal. Even the last search further out was done "out of thoroughness". Are they really looking for a kid that walked to these locations or got there another way?

We also have plenty of three corner jacks in the outback (at least, in South Australia). Stepping on one of those is an experience you never forget. Their spikes are so strong that one will go right through your rubber thongs (flip flops) if you step on it.

You learn to keep your shoes on pretty quickly. It can be rough on the feet in that kind of terrain.

We used to call these Goat Heads - and they hurt like hell

To me it seems to be very possible, if little Gus went there, because it is close enough to the home. But I'm asking myself: Why did he even start his adventurous way to the dam (if)? Is the walk there somehow exciting for a little 4yo boy?
I know of some little kids who get taken for a swim in the dam…. something that was an absolute no no in my day. We were forbidden to go anywhere near the dam.
