Australia AUSTRALIA - 4YO AUGUST (GUS) Missing from rural family home in Outback, Yunta, South Australia, 27th Sept 2025

Maybe I’m weird, but if snakes that need shot are slithering around my homestead , I wouldn’t leave my little grandchild outside alone to play.

I really don’t mean to be blaming grandma, but imo leaving Gus outside in that environment, unattended, was a lapse in judgement. I know that both grandmothers and his mother would go back in time in a heartbeat and change things if they could.

Grandma Josie angrily comes outside with a shotgun, and Gus’s dad is always falling out with people because of running his mouth. Anger issues from both of them.

Poor Gus.

I know of some little kids who get taken for a swim in the dam…. something that was an absolute no no in my day. We were forbidden to go anywhere near the dam.
Me too. But over 80 years ago my newly-wed parents went for a swim in it, and apparently emerged covered in mud. :)

Do you mean apart from the evidence of at least three adult witnesses that we know about? Small children leave a mess of evidence of their presence. Food that was partially chewed on, laundry that evidently has not been left in the hamper long, a wet bathtub with toys set to dry, a bed that looks recently slept in, a potty seat that's still on the toilet, the TV set to their station, toys where they haven't been picked up all day...

it's weird how there's no toys outside though that I've seen - maybe they're all tidied up an din a shed or something

Advance warning from SAPOL.

And I am pretty sure that a sheep station homesteader can carry their registered firearm on their property. Note that there are no photos in the DM article of Josie "waving it around". Just holding it down by their side.

"The family has asked that media representatives do not enter their property." SAPOL
With respect, you haven't seen the whole video. They only published a segment of it.

Anyway, cops have come on the telly dismissing the incident as Josie trying to disarm a snake on her porch. So that is that, then.

Just a coincidence she was yelling at the Daily Mail lady. What Josie was really after was the snake. According to SAPOL.

Whatever the gun was being used for, it should have been carried broken until it was to be loaded and fired. Some UK oldies might remember this public information film from the 1970s.

Yes, it is very strange. I had posted about that fact a couple of weeks ago. Yet there are toys evident at Gus’s Dad’s house ….

Deputy Police Commissioner Linda Williams said on Friday that Ms Murray was using the gun to “dispatch a snake” and had no threatening intentions, and labelled the Daily Mail’s actions as “disgraceful”.

“My understanding is two members from the Daily Mail organisation, despite numerous warnings over numerous days and weeks … have gone on to private property,” she said.

Ms Williams warned the public to stay off private property.
“If this persists, then action will be taken, you will either be reported or arrested, this is completely disgraceful conduct,” she said.
Ms Williams said the actions of the homeowner had been assessed and no further action would be taken."

She said the people who approached the home were unlawfully on the property.
“I’d say you need to look at the behaviour of the people who entered that property unlawfully.”
SA Police has not said whether the Daily Mail team has been reported for trespassing.

The Daily Mail has no respect for the family, they are intrusive and unethical imo and if they have been warned by police to keep off the property they are showing contempt for lawful direction.

Probably would have missed the snake is they weren't ready.

When you previously mentioned just one breed of dog that you owned, I had to find out about your Catahoula Leopard dog, and saw that it has red wolf in the breed, I have absolutely no doubt you would be well protected! 🐾

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed>

I didn't see the weapon waved--the grip was changed once--but I agree that showing it was intended as threatening. I think it was a measured performance, that Josie knew exactly what she could legally do and she went right up to that line and didn't cross it.

Good on the Police Commissioner for speaking out, supporting the rights of civilians and victims in this country and informing the public that the Daily Mail does not get a pass to break laws here. Impressive. Moo.

There are plenty of ethical, respected and fine investigative journalists in this country. The Daily Mail is not one of them jmo. What they did is not just 'doing their job'. On the contrary. Jmo
