But make sure you keep that ‘answer’ to yourself, as there are very hefty fines for killing or harming a snake.I'm sorry, but in a high traffic area like a verandah with people coming and going, including an infant, dogs, etc...
We can bang on all we like about animal rights, but to expect a farmer to call a snake wrangler like some person from the suburbs for a brown sunning itself on their doorstep is unrealistic.
In the country, the answer for a deadly snake taking up residence in your home's immediate vicinity when you're hours from medical help is a shotgun or a sharp, carefully wielded spade.
MOO
You’re not preaching to the uninitiated here, I grew up in remote bush and I know all about the dangers. Snakes must be taken seriously no matter where they are, as there are high traffic areas, people, children and pets in many settings.
I don’t dispute the brazenness of the DM & it’s certainly fair that the Commissioner gave them a warning to respect people’s right to privacy on their own property, particularly when it’s been requested.
However IMO she made an error of judgement in indicating Josie was fine to walking around with the gun <modsnip: removed misgendering>to shoot a snake;
Plus it would have been a good idea to say that she wasn’t endorsing the brandishing of a firearm. Weapons / guns combined with heightened tempers is a recipe for disaster and shouldn’t be condoned.
Also jmo but I doubt there was a snake on the veranda.
<modsnip: misgendering> ... the DM people would have heard the shot (plus there’d be a hole in the veranda boards)
<modsnip>
All just my opinion.
