Australia AUSTRALIA - 4YO AUGUST (GUS) Missing from rural family home in Outback, Yunta, South Australia, 27th Sept 2025

I'm sorry, but in a high traffic area like a verandah with people coming and going, including an infant, dogs, etc...

We can bang on all we like about animal rights, but to expect a farmer to call a snake wrangler like some person from the suburbs for a brown sunning itself on their doorstep is unrealistic.

In the country, the answer for a deadly snake taking up residence in your home's immediate vicinity when you're hours from medical help is a shotgun or a sharp, carefully wielded spade.

MOO
But make sure you keep that ‘answer’ to yourself, as there are very hefty fines for killing or harming a snake.

You’re not preaching to the uninitiated here, I grew up in remote bush and I know all about the dangers. Snakes must be taken seriously no matter where they are, as there are high traffic areas, people, children and pets in many settings.

I don’t dispute the brazenness of the DM & it’s certainly fair that the Commissioner gave them a warning to respect people’s right to privacy on their own property, particularly when it’s been requested.

However IMO she made an error of judgement in indicating Josie was fine to walking around with the gun <modsnip: removed misgendering>to shoot a snake;
Plus it would have been a good idea to say that she wasn’t endorsing the brandishing of a firearm. Weapons / guns combined with heightened tempers is a recipe for disaster and shouldn’t be condoned.

Also jmo but I doubt there was a snake on the veranda.

<modsnip: misgendering> ... the DM people would have heard the shot (plus there’d be a hole in the veranda boards)

<modsnip>

All just my opinion.

I get that Josie was disarming a snake, I do. But imagine if the gun went off and accidentally shot the journalist and/or photographer and someone was injured or killed?

What people might not realise is that a journalist will be posted to a location, and their Editor will direct them to "door knock" certain properties relevant to the case.

My niece is in this sort of work, and I do hear about it at Christmas gatherings, and other social occasions.

The journalist and photographer (paparazzo?) were at work doing their jobs. They're not freelancers, not there on their own steam, they are under orders from their superiors. They are employees.

Karleigh from the Daily Mail had been there earlier in the case, and presumably didn't have to face the shotgun. So presumably, the editor has assumed it's safe enough.

How would you feel doing your job and suddenly your life is in danger? Who's going to take care of your kids if you're a mum who gets shot at work?

Everyone deserves to be safe at work, to come home at the end of the day without experiencing occupational violence.

The thing is, according to Mrs Bray's video, she was already leaving, she was walking away.

Shannon reportedly asked her to leave and gave a no comment response and the journalist was leaving.

So she wasn't a threat to Josie.

She arrived, did her job, left when she was told to leave.

Would we feel the same if Josie had the gun and the bullet out for a Jehovah's Witness missionary, there to spread the gospel of Jesus, or an Amazon delivery guy who had arrived to deliver a package?

Or is somehow a journalist less human and therefore less worthy of being treated in a safe manner than another member of the public?

I think that rather than speculating about the lives of tabloid journalists and the inherent challenges they face, it's important to give weight to the LE statement, which very firmly stated that the family did nothing wrong and had very harsh words for the DM breaching their privacy in violation of what they'd been told, which was to stay off the property.

It’s so sad Gus wasn’t found today. I was expecting to see the dam fully emptied so they could see if Gus was tangled amongst the reeds or stuck in the muddy silt at the bottom. It looks to me as though they could walk right over him without realising he’s there.
Well let's hope they walked around and checked enough in the reeds and mud after all that effort! Does anyone know if they had previously checked the other two dams beside the big one at another point in time? And if so, I assume there was enough clarity to see properly in those ones, shallower or ??

With each passing day
this tragic case and everything that surrounds it with peculiar drama,
is becoming more and more bizarre IMO.

I only hope that the victim
a 4-year-old missing child
will one day be found.

Ok just looking around on Google Earth and measuring distances. I think we were all of the assumption that the drive from Oak Park Road to homestead was 32km when its only 0.32km.

So do we have 6 gates to go through on that approx 0.32km road??

Why has the possibility of an abduction been ruled out if you can walk to the homestead and back to Oak Park Road in under 1km???

From what I’ve made out the six gates are between the homestead and Yunta along Oak Park Road, which is a 45 minute drive.
Oak Park Road hasn’t got fences either side just gates across it on fence lines and it passes close to other homesteads along the way. Abduction appears to be ruled out because the neighbours would’ve heard a vehicle in the area as it’s such a quiet remote area and dust would’ve been seen if anyone drove past .
It sounds as though there’s only one way in and out of there but you’d think there would be another rough track of some sort and if that’s the case yes he could’ve been spotted from Oak Park Road and abducted if he happened to be in tbe wrong place at the wrong time imo🤔

The remoteness, lack of dash cam footage , cctv cameras and phone towers to detect pings means there’s no evidence. The police really havent got much to work with

If should say Not trespassing or you will be shot imo
A person on a premises who does not leave immediately when asked by an authorised person (generally the occupier of the premises), or who comes back within the following 24 hours, is guilty of an offence.

Maximum penalty: if the premises are primary production premises, $5 000 or imprisonment for 6 months, or in any other case $2 500 or imprisonment for 6 months.

Daily Mail were not trespassing. They were asked to leave and they did. They identified themselves as press.

If they had trespassed, they would have been charged. They weren't charged.

What options are left after all the searches and draining of dams? I find it really hard to believe he wasn’t found those first few days using thermal drones, helicopters, and grid searchers. The landscape looks like wide open spaces. Where are you lil Gus? Was he really there that day? I’m thinking maybe not. Moo

Maybe the police could start by checking alibis.

I feel like there was a lot of talk about the gun (the anger should be the focus imo) and dad not being allowed on property was kind of skipped over. But is a big deal imo because if a child is missing we ignore nonsense to find child

Looking around on maps there are definitely other rough tracks that could've been taken. Coming from Sturt Vale Road pass Oak Park Station driveway they could've continued on heading towards Grampus and then back onto the highway.
