The police could not have ruled out kidnapping for quite awhile. They did an investigation before coming to that determination.

The photos were asked for at the very start, when no one had any idea what had happened.

I think LE probably did ask for photos and probably did suggest that they made them public, in order to peak the public's interest and their memories, in case they saw Gus somewhere before or after he went missing. Sometimes seeing a child earlier in the day can be revealing in some ways. Who he was with, what he was wearing, etc.

I think the police were trying to be very supportive of the family to keep the cooperation going.

I don't think so. I would not bring a shotgun to my front porch if a news reporter came to ask me about my missing grandson.
I don't think that would be vigorously defended.

Now if someone was on my front porch, rattling my door or my windows, I would vigorously brandish my weapon as I demanded they step away. I could not shoot unless they tried to enter forcibly though.

I think the gun would have to be loaded if it was true that it was being used to protect the home from poisonous snakes, as told by LE.
Do you have a source that LE requested photos, because I don't recall that.

They said the family did not choose to release them, without any indication that such a choice interfered with their investigation. That is very different.

I happen to feel a little suspicious of the decision not to release photos, but I'm mindful of how not universal that feeling is.

"... and the grandparents were not present
and, according to locals,
they haven't been seen for "several days now" at the property."

What about the hundreds of sheep? Do they need supervision ion any kind? Or are they pretty much on their own, besides being shorn once a year?
That’s what I was thinking. Who is taking care of the sheep?

Previous poster said they think. Believe they were sharing their opinion

So...
The station/farm seems abandoned.

First
daughter fled with the other child.
JL was never there as there were alleged arguments with JM.
And now
grandparents/owners vanished.

Gates have always been closed for outsiders.
No Trespassing Sign and weapon warned not to set foot there.

And now it is empty,
only animals left to roam I guess.

And Police coming and going
looking for a missing child who vanished without a trace.
Searching for "evidence".

Terrible and frightening sight.

:(

No sign of the cement mixer in October news video.

But yesterday the cement mixer was there!

Despite it being very obviously a large object for the LE to not notice, and after pondering about it for hours, I have submitted the pics to Crime Stoppers SA. I would hate to waste their precious time.

With the recent rains, the outback looks quite green (for the outback) so there would be a good amount of natural feed there at the moment.

If a station owner is going to get away for a few days, it is probably a good time to go. Remembering that they have likely been flooded-in for a while and may need provisions, and may need to tend to other business.

I imagine that a neighbour would keep an eye on the homestead for them, if they are away.
Remote homesteads can be vulnerable to thieves. (eg: link )

Who knows? But I can't quite see those 2 on a Pacific cruise.

I don't see anything in the way they choose to dress on a working farm as having anything to do with what they would choose to wear if they were to go on a cruise.

They seem quite neat and tidy people to me.

RBBM for focus. I'm not sure that police ever said (or are attributed at any time as saying) that "family did not choose to release them" ie that family chose not to release an immediate photo, thereby causing a "delay" in the release of a photo until Oct 2nd 2025. I think attributing the so called 'delay' to family is likewise just public speculation. Moo

*As an aside, other posters have pointed out back a ways on the thread that it is the parents who consent to the release of photos of their child, not the family as a whole unit. Moo It is also speculative that the 'family' made this speculated decision

As far as the timing of photo release goes, all I have ever read is one statement attributed to police at the time.

Below is 30th Sept 2025 ABC reporting on the words of Commissioner Grant Stevens.

" He said police believed Gus was still on the property, had not been taken and that releasing his image would serve no purpose in the search".

Search concluded at Oak Park Station

12 Mar 2026 3:27pm

A renewed search for evidence at and around Oak Park Station in connection with the disappearance of four-year-old Gus Lamont has concluded.
Task Force Horizon members searched several areas but sadly did not locate any evidence.

The renewed searching followed significant rainfall in the area in recent weeks which may present new opportunities in the investigation.

Task Force Horizon members have not ruled out further activity at Oak Park Station in coming weeks as the investigation continues.

(Greened by me) They gave up searching for Gus because, not having found him, they concluded that he wasn't there--that he didn't wander. Does there come a point when, after searching for evidence that his family harmed him and not having found it, they conclude that the evidence isn't there--that the family is innocent?

Days ago I just thought about other businesses, that the parents (of Jess) might have, as a second source of income perhaps.

They seemed to take care of neighbouring farm/station as well,
the one where new concrete was put, right?

It seems that it is enough workload for a couple over 70, no?

What other businesses can a person have?
They also have a house in Adelaide (in SM's name) - as was reported.
Once Jess and JL with kids lived there.

I guess
they left knowing Police would be there searching.

But who knows? 🤔

Oh yes, more than enough for my feeling. I thought of a business, which only requires attendance sporadically (by one of them, possibly).

In case of ALLEGED foul play or cover up of fatal accident
I don't think the body would be on the property.
I'm thinking of the nearby Park/Nature Reserve (forgot the name, sorry).

But really,
looking at this VAST terrain I'm pessimistic that Gus would ever be found,
IF he is dead, that is.
Samantha M. has still not been found despite many searches.
(Oops, I sound like a broken record).

I think Police were searching the property for some evidence/traces of foul play or accident.

But honestly, IDK.

Dare I say it …

SAPOL need to get the original trackers back to follow up on their suspicions.

I suppose some sort of expert could make an estimate of when the cement mixer was last used, unless it was scrupulously cleaned.

That is a pretty bulky and heavy item to have to load onto a truck if one intended to use it elsewhere.

I wonder if
them leaving when Police were coming
could be the example of "Not Cooperating"??

🤔

I somehow doubt it was coincidence.

It's probably been used by LE to sift through the dirt- it would be weird if there is not one little minion figurine, shards from broken sand pit tools and toys, wheels that snapped off a toy vehicle, "stolen" kitchen utensils .... a four year old can make a good 20 -40 minutes of fun with dirt and a stick as a toy, but if this pit was a regular play spot for him, as I believe was reported, even if he didn't bring more than a stick with him to the pit the afternoon he disappeared, (assuming the reported time line is true), certainly on other days he would have brought in other toys and tools.

If nothing of Gus's is in that dirt, that could be suspicious.

I was also thinking they may have left for higher, dryer ground based on the forecasts, too.

If the sheep are going to have food, water, and protection from predators, they are okay? Is that how it goes?
