This one is so sad, I hope they find him safe.

Is it strange they have released a picture of him? Well not that I could see.

MOO: I find it odd as well, but the family have declined to release one.

I assume it's because they're living SO remotely, so the public don't really need to know what he looks like as they wouldn't be able to do anything anyway - Yunta is a very remote, very small town. Maybe there's photos going around Yunta?

They also took a day or two to release Gus' surname, but none of the other family members have been named.

I'm guessing there's enough evidence to show that Gus genuinely got lost on the property but personally, I wouldn't be ruling out other possibilities. I'd be putting out as much information as I possibly could in the unlikely scenario that someone took him.

Other Sleuthers have also speculated that he, and/or other family members may have their personal details protected for legal reasons (eg. unrelated family court rulings, fostering etc.)

MOO.

🤍 I keep searching for updates hoping that they've found him alive and safe. This is such a heartbreaking case. I hope the family has an abundance of support and comfort right now. I can't even being to imagine what they must be going through right now 💔

Expert local tracker joins search for missing four-year-old in South Australia
- 1 hour ago

Police have revealed an experienced tracker has joined the search for a lost little boy in regional South Australia.

...

A local tracker with deep knowledge of the terrain joined the operation yesterday to help find possible paths Gus may have taken, police said today.

They also said a group of cadets were travelling to the property today to help the search.

Aerial searches have continued throughout the nights, while ground searches in daylight hours have included SES, trail bikes, ATVs, dogs, and a drone.

Yes I agree. Given it’s so remote releasing his picture may not aid the search at all.

However, Supt Syrus said police had last night spoken with the family to prepare them for other potential outcomes.

“Our priority has always been and remains to always to find Gus alive,” he said.

“Last night we had a discussion with the family to prepare them with the fact that Gus has been gone for five days – 86 hours – so the reality of Gus being found alive because he hasn’t had any water, food or shelter … the chance of finding him alive is really diminishing every minute.

“We always remain hopeful that Gus is a tough little country lad an curled up under a bush somewhere and we’re find him today.”

I heard a police rep speaking on the radio news this morning, he said that they are bracing the family that this may turn into a recovery mission instead of a search and rescue one. So much time has passed.

I wonder why the “family” have made this decision? I wonder why it is a “family” decision and not the parent’s decision?

I wish a tracker was brought in earlier. Have they used dogs as well yet?
Hope is fading, but there are dams on site, so who knows? Do we know how far away the dams and water tanks are from the home?
Hoping for a miracle for little Gus.

I wonder in what capacity the tracker worked there previously?

Police then called in a local tracker, who they said had "deep knowledge of the terrain" to help identify the path Gus may have taken, and had worked on the property previously.”

I read that the family is extremely private & that they didn’t want to the name of the homestead mentioned either but the media stuffed that up.

Some of these homesteads house more than just the parents. Grandma and grandad might also live there, or still own the property.
I can understand why a family might not want to issue a photo.

Yeah, I noticed that mention of dogs being brought in were reported within the last day or two as well as the tracker, but you're so right - these methods may have been much more effective if they were utilised much earlier on.

I can't help but think of all the foot traffic and scouring that could have potentially disturbed signs that a tracker could have picked up. JMO.

The homestead looks to be @ Oak Flat.
- on page 4 of this thread, Sazza provided screen shots from 7 News footage which showed a sign in front of the residence, which read "Oak Park".

Sazza's screenshot (cropped) with property sign/name on left. As you can see, the property in the background matches other images released by the media in relation to this case.

There's an Oak Park Road 20kms south of Yunta.

(measurement showing distance from pin point on Oak Park Rd to Yunta)

Using Google Earth, I noticed several properties and small stations as well as multiple dams dotted along Oak Park Road, however I was unable to discern whether any of these are related to this case.

The property may not even be on or close to Oak Park Road at all. This is all just MOO.

Pardon my ignorance but what does that acronym mean? I've seen it and BBM being used but I've struggled to work it out on my own and Google hasn't been much help 😅

It looks very big for a 4yo boot. But there is nothing beside it to show the size.

There also seems to be another shoe print to the left of this one.

Deleted By Me. When replying to a post I accidentally deleted half of it, so deleted the lot.
