The problem is that the reporters (or "reporters") don't respect this and quietly leave, as most people would do. They're right back at it pounding on the door in five minutes, or at best the next day. On top of that, it isn't a normal tap two or three times. They pound, and I mean POUND on the door, then shout questions through it loudly when it doesn't open, so ignoring the knocking is incredibly difficult to do. It would also be different if it was just a single media outfit, or even two, but when it gets to ten or twenty of them, and it often does, I can see where people might get agitated. Add all this on top of the distress families experience from the original incident, crime, whatever, and I think that's what people are reacting to. MOOIs it really that bad having someone knock on your door a couple of times?
I live in a country town and yes people here don't like door knockers compared to larger towns I lived for example. To blow up about it and make a big deal about a simple question or two is also not the country way.
Just say "no, if I do want to talk leave me your card, if not please don't come back again or any future talk is off the table" or something similar.
I don't get how people are making out like it's a big deal.
