More likely that they just don't mention things that they don't want revealed to the public at any point in time. imo

Which is probably why we hear officers say "I can't talk about that at the moment", "we are not going to reveal every facet of our investigation" ... and phrases like that. Which can be frustrating, but they are not allowed to provide inaccuracies (lies, untruths) to the public.

My post was deleted because I mentioned a surname that has never been publicly mentioned in relation to the case. It was also highly speculative in the sense that there are plenty of Bobs in Adelaide. Fair call. I do know the rules of this forum. Here is the transcript again:

Bob: His name’s Gus Lamont and there’s only two people looking for him - that’s me and a lady called Fleur. It’s been in the news. It’s a sheep station up near Yunta, which is on the border of NSW and SA. I’m sure lots of your listeners have been hearing. Nobody’s up there looking for him. He’s been lost for a little while now. But he’s alive. I know he’s alive. Fleur knows he’s alive. We need people to look for him because no one’s looking for him. Everyone thinks there are lots of people looking for him, but there’s nobody looking for him.

Holding tank of fuel is very dangerous decision to make.

I can assure you that it is almost a certainty that every property in that area has there own tanks. Agree with the other poster, they would only fill up at a service station when they went further from home, perhaps to Adelaide.

We have so little to go off of in this case, but why do we think Bob is credible?

I heard it live and I believe he was credible. He sounded like a bushy who was desperate to find Gus. However I have no idea where they are searching. If they believe he is alive, he isn't out under a salt bush, nor down a mine shaft. So where are they looking!!!

Our SA law (as posted above) came into effect in 2017. It is called "South Australian Current Regulations: POLICE COMPLAINTS AND DISCIPLINE REGULATIONS 2017 - SCHEDULE 3".

Baden Clay was arrested in 2012, under Qld laws at the time.

Not sure if that makes a difference. If the various states have tightened up about misleading the public, because we need to have faith in our police and what they say.

It may be, in Gus' case, that the police stop saying there is no evidence of foul play if they actually find evidence of foul play. They may just not speak any further about any "foul play" aspect.
Or they may say that they are now investigating foul play (if they find evidence of such) to put any potential perp under pressure.

Having bulk fuel on the farm is normal farm practice and has been for decades. You see, one simply cannot drive a combine to a gas station. Farm machinery is too big, and isn't meant for road travel. There are strict environmental and safety rules about farm fuel tanks, just like there are for gas stations so it is not more dangerous than a regular gas station.

A big fuel truck comes to the farm and fills the tanks. These tanks are usually above ground, something like the way home owners might have propane tanks, but sometimes they are below ground, just as they are at a gas station.

Usually farm fuel is priced lower, since it is for farm use. All farmers like lower priced fuel, so they install bulk tanks. A farmer usually puts farm fuel into their pickup or car, because even when they go off the farm, they almost always are going out on farm business. Even if they are just going out to get their hair done, they don't take the farm fuel out of their vehicle and replace it with gas station fuel because that wouldn't feasible.

So a farmer wouldn't have reason to go to a gas station.

Wow, thanks for this SouthAussie. It is very interesting to know. I don't know for sure, but I think Qld hasn't got that memo. In Bundaberg awhile back Pheobie Bishop was murdered and police were saying the housemates were not suspects. Now they are both charged with her murder. I wonder if they can say that in Qld until they have enough evidence for an arrest?
Certainly with Gus, SA police have remained silent recently, except for the mine search.

The last update was what?... about a week or so ago?

Regarding Police "talking about nothing else recently". Moo that's very probably because there's been nothing of significance to impart to the public since the last recent update a week or so ago.

From the last update (posted up thread quite a few times) we know police are continuing to analyse and investigate the disappearance of Gus, more searches are not ruled out, the family continue to fully co-operate with police and no evidence of foul play has been uncovered. Moo

IMHO I think Bob is not credible at all. For starters, who injects this type of conversation into a late night radio quiz show between questions? JMO, but no credible person does. Makes me question if he even knows Fleur! And the family has already said they dont want random groups of people showing up to search on their property unannounced. If its only him and Fleur, then hes not including the family, so we can assume he does not have permission from the family. Unless they are not going to search the families property? And the statement 'But he’s alive. I know he’s alive. Fleur knows he’s alive.' is also questionable. IMO I think he is 'full of it', but I believe it would still be worth the Police finding this bloke and Fleur and questioning them, just for peace of mind at the least.

I think he's misguided if he really believes Gus could be alive out there on the station. If he is saying he wants people to help him search, then moo it appears to be what he believes. That isn't rational, and jmo it sounds like a case of severe denial if he is sincere (and I'm not saying he isn't). Sincerity doesn't necessarily equal credibility. Imo his claim is not credible, although he may well be sincere. Jmo
