IMO primary reason for presser:-
- having executed search warrants, seized evidence, ordered forensic anaylsis, informed SM or JM that they are a suspect, resulting in both of them engaging lawyers in response, it is then only a matter of time before something is leaked to the press and all hell breaks loose especially at the Daily Mail.
- presser and all the background info ensures SAPOL control the messaging before anything leaks out to press through other sources.

Secondary reasons
- I’m sure SAPOL are under extreme pressure to show results after all the resources and expenses thrown at this.
- put pressure on suspect and witnesses and perhaps also flush out any more new info from witnesses that were giving family members the “benefit of the doubt”.

Also I’m not sure the motor bike shown at the presser was the one siezed. The AI data analysis only revealed one human alongside thousands of animals, and then they zeroed in on that one human who happens to be on a motorbike to simply show how clever the AI analysis is. It may have been a family member working on the day or some other worker in the area / neighbouring property? I don’t think there much relevance to the seized motor bike but it may indeed be the same one…

As some have already noted if this is indeed a major crime, there is a major secondary crime to be discussed in allowing all those police, SES, defence force, volunteer and private corporations to waste all their time, effort and money when Gus never wandered off. The wasted cost alone, in the midst of a cost of living and housing crisis, is abhorrent. While it pales in comparison to what may have happened to poor Gus, it really makes me disgusted that someone could sit back and watch all that going on, all those people searching in the summer heat and dust, knowing full well Gus is not there.

This all suggests to me that by making sure Gus is never found the suspect is in fact actually hiding something more sinister and sickening than an accidental death ie systematic long term abuse of some sort.

I hope I’m wrong but that’s where my mind is right now now.

Hi all,

On this theory I don’t believe police mentioned guns / firearms being taken in the search - only vehicle, motorbike, computers. We know a gun was at the property but at this stage IMO as guns not mentioned as one of the items taken for forensics so this theory not as likely as others (but everything still on the table!).

I wonder what type of vehicle ie a modern one with gps device and potential to track historic movements? Or an old farm ute with no tech.

From what we now know, long-term abuse seems unlikely. We know that Gus was not ordinarily resident on the station and that his parents have been ruled out by LE as being involved in his disappearance.

Not possible at this point; the land has been throughly searched. The area is not populated. Not a ton of predators in the area, all signs point to one person, as per LE statements. There is foul play involved, only ending that makes sense unfortunately

we've seen pictures of the 'thorough' searching ... much of the time, they're not even looking down

lots of missing/murdered people have been found in areas previously (and repeatedly) searched

I am only presuming LE used sophisticated satellite data and analyses for their visual data display at the recent presser that showed one human (on a motorcycle) in the search area picked up by their anaysis. Here is an example of how LE and military can use this technology.

But to answer your question, I have no idea the date and time of that 'snapshot' sample displayed. Did anyone catch that?

So, if my presumption is correct, then that detailed imagery and analysis could, in theory, and hopefully in practice for this case, be analyzed for any point in time that is available to LE in archives.

Further, I wonder if it was this kind of imagery and analyses that helped LE determine someone wasn't where they said they were. Or at the least, the imagery put on display at the presser could put pressure on a suspect or their accomplice(s), to realize their story may be found to be false.

IOW, perhaps detective investigations have become much more sophisticated than when Josie was in LE long ago.

Polair conducted initial searching, including using infrared FLIR, out to a distance of 12km from the homestead while a drone captured images of a 2.5km radius from the homestead, a 2km radius around the dams and two known travel routes for 8km and 6km from the homestead.

In addition, an aircraft fitted with highly specialised camera equipment captured images on two separate occasions –the first to a 10km radius from the homestead and the second to a 15km radius from the homestead. The total area covered amounts to 706 sq/km.

I am not tied to any particular theory. I am just saying that Shannon's timeline may have been deemed to be incorrect somehow. Maybe even purposefully incorrect. IDK

Because we don't know what the inconsistencies are, or what any potential evidence may be.

Whereas I would think that Jess could confirm where she and Josie were, and when. And Jess is deemed (by the police) to not be under suspicion.
