Maybe I've missed something?
Motives for disappearance.
Gary's psychosis, paranoia and desire to control.
Someone actually threatening them with physical harm, like a relative of that lady that suicided, or a friend of that lady that was bilked of her money. or someone else that was scammed and trying to get their money back?
Being chased by a cult buster?
A crime like the ID fraud that Gary sensed the authorities were about to arrest him on?
A suicide pact which coincidentally involved either a means or a location that effectively hid their bodies?
Or someone did them in and hid the bodies?

Or hapchance they had an accident, run off the road into a culvert and no one has ever noticed.

And how did WAPOL find out about the Trip to Kalgoorlie? Was it an Anonymous tip off?

We need a registry of questions and your post is a great starting point. Is there a connection with topic and Kalgoorlie? The tip off was some time after October 2007 so great point how would they associate J.Roberts with the backpackers. I presume WAPOL went through the known passenger list on the train. Could have been a tip off?

Gary's last web post in 2007 before he went missing was to an American 'server' called Sharon (according to the doco) about taking nembutal with the family. Apparently she talked him out of it? Christine Parrott (another American) took the drug to commit suicide the following year.

I think it is in fact not his original website but a version of his site (not newcall.org – still waiting on response btw) hosted on a multiplatform parasitic cesspool which is also listed on his original websites (west net & newcall pre-2007) as one of the links:

Interested to find out who is hosting this site and maybe POI is still involved with them under a different name. Two options here - either that footage is captured by the producer at the time of production or WAPOL provided the information.

I reckon it was triangulation on Popic's phone that gave up his location and they matched the name 'J. Roberts' to the train and the backpackers. I like the idea of a tip off though but unconfirmed IMO.

Northcliffe and/or Denmark would be an area of interest based on one of your earlier ideas about locals who were suddenly flush with cash, new assets or sudden deposit on property. It would likely take two perps to take out three adults with a minor. Guns, car unless poisoned.

I presume WAPOL have checked all passenger lists for rail and coach each side of the known dates to cover off on the idea of two perps dropping a car at one of the junctions for a later pick up. IMHO it would be unlikely to be a sole perp unless poison or similar is involved.

Why would one person go to Northcliffe? I think of Howard Taylor when I think of that place. The same ticket as the unused one left behind in the house unused. Maybe someone left it behind? Bugger have to buy another one.

Some options?

Gary's created this elaborate ruse which has fooled everyone and crossed the nullarbor with family and Popic in tow in the car that picked them up from Chantelle's car sale

One perp gets off the train south to parked car and picks up perp two from Toodyay (Kalgoorlie trip) and go back to wherever (Denmark?)

Two perps split the money go separate ways and one ends ups in Kalgoorlie, one around Northcliffe.

One perp throws Popic's phone on the train to Kalgoorlie – doesn't go to Kalgoorlie and goes back down south to help his mate do some excavation work on the block that's been vacant for years with a fresh offer on it too good to refuse. Either way they would have to had moved quick-smart with a small window of opportunity. JMHO

Mr Popic’s phone was used to make two calls early on July 16 before a taxi booked under the name of Tony went from the backpackers to the East Perth railway station.
Six minutes later, the man left on the Prospector and Mr Popic’s phone was not used again.
Complicating matters is that later the same morning, July 16, a J Roberts bought a ticket from the East Perth station for a train and bus to Northcliffe, the same destination as a ticket that had been booked from the family’s Nannup house earlier in the month but never used.
Police are unsure if it is just a co-incidence because J Roberts is a common name or whether one of the missing men went to Kalgoorlie that day while the other went to Northcliffe.

It's a big question.
If it was an anonymous tip, then someone wanted the Police attention diverted and obfuscated, possibly meaning that an impression that they left is the outcome that the tipster wanted to disseminate.

Let's look online for any evidence of someone being really pissed of enough with Gary to be going to Australia to confront him in Nannup. Maybe they did once or twice before, hence his moving NZ, Melbourne, Denmark, Nannup. Maybe it started in the UK after the Rainbow network letter? Has anyone read Margaret's side of the story?

I think Parrot went a year later. Her family would be dark on him for sure especially if they were all actively discussing suicide drugs on the forum gateway. I wonder who came to visit him from overseas? Two visitors in fact according to the doco...

According to the doco Kadwell had two visits in total - a single visitor and a couple. Three visitors from overseas that travelled to Nannup. Rough transcript as follows:

Three suicides shortly after disappearance of the four
Days after the disappearances a man (one of his followers) commits suicide in Canada
A year thereafter a couple from Massachusetts commit suicide
Two of the three that committed suicide had visited Gary in Nannup sometime earlier

I looked at Christina M. Parrott. Here is her obituary:

Note her companion is called Charles Wendling. They live in Massachusetts. I can't confirm if the other person that potentially travelled with Christina to see Gary was her partner or fellow server. We need to find out more about this Charles Wendling. Note the date of the obituary is 29 August 2008 which is just over a year past the disappearance anniversary. It mentions that Charles is her companion. Is he still alive then? Did he come with her to Nannup? The documentary is not clear. Who was the other person to visit from Canada. Gary went to Canada at some point around 2000-02 along with UK trips. There is also mention in the doco about him visiting "ashrams in India and communes in America".

The last time the four were sighted was 13 July 2007 banking the cheque from the sale of the car. Thoughts always welcomed..
