Not sure if this has been posted already. It was in my Yates email today.

"Daniel Morcombe Rose - A magnificent deep red rose named to honour Queensland boy Daniel Morcombe (1989 – 2003). Part proceeds from the sale of each rose will assist the Daniel Morcombe Foundation"

The rose named for Daniel has been out for a while now - was there a picture included in your email? It is one of the most beautiful shades of red I have seen - I'm not a gardener or a particular lover of rose gardens, but it really is lovely.

LAWYERS for Daniel Morcombe's convicted killer say they are "armed to the teeth" with legal arguments as to why Queensland's chief justice should be disqualified from deciding their appeal.
THE application by Brett Peter Cowan's lawyers, who cite a perception of bias, was set down on Friday for hearing on May 26.
A preliminary hearing was set down for next Thursday to determine whether the application should be heard by Chief Justice Tim Carmody alone or the full bench.
At a directions hearing on Friday, Justice Carmody questioned whether Cowan's barrister, Peter Davis QC, could muster sufficient material to argue their case by the proposed deadline.
"Armed to the teeth, Your Honour" replied Mr Davis, who has been a vocal critic of Justice Carmody's controversial appointment.
"Good. You'll need to be," Justice Carmody replied.

Nice article about the Daniel Morcombe Foundation turning 10 years old and the New 'Help me app'

"The Daniel Morcombe Foundation held its first committee meeting on May 5th 2005 in the dining room of Bruce and Denise Morcombes in their family home in Queensland.

continued

"Following Daniel’s abduction and murder his parents, Bruce and Denise have worked tirelessly educate children on safety and through their foundation they have developed the ‘Help Me’ app suitable for children as young as seven.

When activated the 'Help Me' app sounds a warning and allows the user to send off an SMS text to two nominated 'safety' numbers who are part of the user’s ‘Trusted Safety Network’. Included in the text are GPS co-ordinates from where the text was sent, so the sender can be located or a last known place of contact is indicated."

Thank for the info gregjrichards. The Morcombe's have made an outstanding contribution towards child safety. The GPS coordinates sent in the text are a brilliant idea IMO. Thank you Morcombes.

'Had a gutful': Morcombes on attack after judge resigns from killer's appeal hearing'

The Morcombe family has launched a blistering attack on legal delays over the appeals hearing for their son Daniel's murderer.

Chief Justice Tim Carmody has removed himself from the appeal panel amid claims of perceived bias from killer Brett Peter Cowan's lawyers.

Cowan's lawyers made the allegations based on Mr Carmody's private meeting with child safety advocate Hetty Johnston last month.

Heard Cowan's lawyers on radio 3AW state: on the instructions of their client, they will take his case to the High Court.

Question: On whose money? Certainly not his!

Why are taxpayers funding his legal appeals? Let him find the money himself if he chooses to peruse his case in the High Court. My opinion only.

Thanks for all your updates they are much appreciated. Glad the appeal has been turned down and hopefully it will do so again if he takes it to the high court.

Daniel Morcombe’s killer Brett Peter Cowan leads isolated life in jail, believes he will one day be freed

BRETT Cowan lives a lonely life in prison, visited only by his lawyers – and believes he will one day be released.
Cowan, who will serve a life sentence, lives his days in a 3m x 4m cell, separated from other prisoners to *ensure his safety.

The 45-year-old can apply for parole only after serving 20 years – and even then, sentencing remarks by Justice Roslyn Atkinson kept in his file will remind the Parole Board he is a liar who will say anything to better his situation.
A prison source said the only people Cowan has contact with are guards, his lawyers and a doctor who sees him once a week.
He has his own outdoor exercise yard which measures 5m x 4m.

The man credited with cracking open one of Australia’s most high-profile missing person’s cases

WHEN his son’s killer was arrested and charged, Bruce Morcombe picked up the phone and called one man. That man was Peter Boyce, a Sunshine Coast lawyer, father-of-six and the person credited with cracking open one of the most high-profile missing person’s cases in Australian history.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Boyce recalls to ABC’s Australian Story.
“I was jumping for joy (but) I was also really sad that we now knew that he’d definitely been killed.” “He” is, of course, Bruce’s son Daniel, who was abducted from a Sunshine Coast bus stop in 2003.

Worked tirelessly ... Peter Boyce pushed to have witnesses questioned at the inquest into Daniel Morcombe’s murder. Picture: Supplied Source: News Limited
Boyce, now considered a family friend by the entire Morcombe family, is spoken of in high regard.
