Australia - Four males arrested for the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl in 2024

It is annoying that they cannot be named because it could help protect other young women if their names were made public.

Even if they wait until AFTER the trial, if they are found guilty, they should be held publicly accountable, imo.

I didn't like reading that the family of one of the teens swarmed the police and swore at them as they attempted the arrest. A gang rape that was being streamed and sent to others, to invite them to join in, and went on for six hours?

There should be NO BAIL , imo.

I have complicated thoughts about it. On the one hand, it feels like every woman should know the names of these boys to be able to protect themselves. On the other hand, Australia has a way way lower rate of recidivism among youth offenders compared to countries like the US that release juvenile offender information when they are tried as adults or for adult crimes, so something they are doing works much better than our system to prevent future harm. They actually have generally far lower rates of recidivism across all populations who are jailed. Would be nice to find something that works as well as their system to reduce recidivism but offers greater protection where needed.
