Hayley Dodd murder trial: Truck driver says he gave teenager lift to roadhouse
ABC News
EMILY PIESSE
UPDATED ABOUT AN HOUR AGO (as at 18:10 AEDST 12 October 2017)

‘A truck driver who says he picked up a missing teenage hitchhiker on the day she disappeared has told the Supreme Court she seemed a "very bubbly" and "happy" girl.’

‘Truck driver Donald Wayne Spry — who was taking earthmoving equipment from Walkaway to Perth on the day Ms Dodd disappeared — said he gave the teenager a lift to Badgingarra after she knocked on his window at a service station near Dongara, about 180 kilometres away.

Mr Spry, 55, said Ms Dodd was a "very tiny little girl" who told him she was going to visit farming friends in Moora.

"She [had] done some work there with sheep before, apparently," he told the court.’

‘"[She was a] very bubbly girl. She was so happy," he said.

Mr Spry said she appeared to be about 14 years old and had with long dark hair.

"Just a very young little girl ... like a child," he said.’

Truckie offered to give teen lift home

‘Mr Spry said he dropped Ms Dodd at a Badgingarra service station and told her to call his mobile number if she wanted a lift back to Dongara, where she had been working as a rouseabout.

"She wanted to get back [to Dongara] as quick as she possibly could," Mr Spry said.

"It wasn't going to be that long away."

He said he also gave the teenager $15 to buy something to eat, after she said she had no money in her bank account.

Mr Spry told the court he was watching television three days later when he saw a news story about the missing teenager.

"It was the young girl that asked me for a ride. I rung the police straight away," he said.

The trial continues.’

Thanks bohemian.

"Ms Edwards told the court after Mr Wark was discharged he stayed with them for a few days.

She testified when she heard on the radio about a girl missing from Badgingarra she suggested to her boyfriend and Mr Wark they should call the police because they would want to know about everyone who was in the area." unquote.

I wonder about this 'accident' and if it was faked or Not Faked ?
Had the 'alleged killer' suffered from a
Bad Karmic reaction !?
Did the friends notice any unusual behaviour over the next few days ?

"She said she returned to Wark's house a couple of months later for a going away party as he had put his house up for sale and planned to "settle" in the eastern states, possibly Queensland.

"He'd been there (Badgingarra) a few years - time to move on," she said.

Prosecutor Amanda Burrows told the court during openings that when Wark quit his local job as a part-time primary school gardener,
he told people he had terminal cancer and was going to Queensland to die.

The ease with which he told such a lie affected his credibility, she said."

"She said Mr Wark had also been due to travel to Perth to stay with them that night, but she received a phone call saying he had been involved in an accident and was in hospital." unquote

Is there any proof of the accused having been in hospital ?
The way this has been written leaves an uncertainty about the accused having being in hospital, maybe just making an alibi again...

Forensic officer didn't see crucial evidence during Hayley Dodd investigation

http://www.theage.com.au/wa-news/forensic-officer-didnt-see-crucial-evidence-during-hayley-dodd-investigation-20171030-gzb7nj.html

A forensic policeman who collected a seat cover from the car of Hayley Dodd's accused murderer says he didn't see an earring that was later found lodged in the fabric and WA prosecutors argue likely belonged to the teenager.

The earring, depicting an ancient Egyptian symbol representing life, is one of two key pieces of physical evidence against Wark in a case that has been described as entirely circumstantial.

Sgt Davison said his focus was to carefully remove the car seat cover so trace evidence such as hairs and fibres were not dislodged, and send it to the state pathology service where it could be examined in a sterile and well-lit environment.

And the evidence stayed in storage without being tested for 14 years!

Its quite compelling circumstantial evidence .
Just the same earrings as hayleys g/f friend had specifically drawn for the investigators?

"The court was shown a photograph of the bent earring — an Egyptian-style cross, or ankh — followed by a drawing by Ms Dodd's friend of a similar piece of jewellery she was believed to have been wearing on the day she disappeared."

"But it remained there unexamined until September 2013 when an earring matching a description of the style she was wearing was found caught up in the fabric."
"He and his colleague were working in a dim shed at Wark’s rural property, which was “a hostile environment” for such evidence, Sgt Davison said.
“I would have looked at it (the car seat cover) without disturbing it,” the officer said."

Hayley Dodd murder trial hears how surprise earring find becomes crucial evidence

‘Four years ago, Pathwest scientist Tracy Horner was examining an item connected to the cold case disappearance of teenager Hayley Dodd — a seat cover from a ute — when her eye caught sight of a small piece of metal.

It turned out to be an earring, which forms a crucial piece of evidence in the trial against Francis John Wark, accused of murdering Ms Dodd 14 years ago.’

"PathWest scientist Tracy Horner told the court she saw the distinctive object within a minute.
'I noticed the earring fairly quickly after it was removed from the bag,' Ms Horner testified on Monday.
She said she turned the car seat cover over to photograph the back of it and the earring dropped onto a surface.
The hook on the earring was bent, which prosecutors say suggests a struggle, but defence counsel Darryl Ryan argues the state cannot prove the earring belonged to Hayley as no DNA evidence was recovered from it."

"Ms Horner said she collected 93 hairs from the contents of the vacuum police conducted of the passenger side footwell in August 1999.
She said an 18mm long, black, straight human hair, known as “hair 13” was found, which under closer inspection contained “possible cellular material” on the very tip of the root, making it “possibly suitable for DNA analysis”.

"He agreed there were many people living near where Hayley vanished who had been convicted of “sexually based crimes”.
Outside court, Mr Rowe said Hayley’s case would always haunt him.
“It’s one of those career cases you will never get from under your skin,” he said.
Earlier, Kahu Smiler, who bought the house Mr Wark owned when he allegedly murdered Hayley, testified his property was a “write-off” after police searched it in 2013."
