Australia - Ho Ledinh, 65, shot to death, Bankstown, NSW, 23 Jan 2018

Totally off topic but I am surprised at a criminal lawyer having such a modest home. I would be living in fort knox.

Right, and he was described as a prominent criminal lawyer.

Slain Bankstown lawyer Ho Le Dinh's voice for change made him enemies, friends say
ABC News
BY NADIA DALY
UPDATED ABOUT AN HOUR AGO [as at 09:30 AEDT 25 January 2018]

‘Ho Le Dinh was a man with a strong voice.

A political refugee with a passion for social justice, he wasn't afraid to speak out and stand up for what he believed in.

But he was also a divisive figure in Sydney's close-knit Vietnamese community who had "some friends, and some enemies" according to colleagues and associates.’

Just a wild theory ......

It’s been said that he owed a heavy debt. I wonder if by any chance he ordered the hit on himself as an insurance payout. It has been said that he had a heart problem and health issues. I wonder if he sent his wife and kids away to keep them out of it and decided to get a hit on himself and maybe it wasn’t to kill (pelvic region) but to injure enough for a disability payout. If his debt was serious and he feared how he would support his family and if he had a sizeable life insurance policy it could be imaginable. To brazenly do it during the day and to shoot to the pelvis really makes me think.

Not a wild theory seabreaze my mind is spinning as well.
It could be one of so many.
If the wife returns to Australia promptly or stays away.

Wife left with children only hours before. (?!)
Was it client/court dispute related?
Insurance. (Self inflicted or family/wife)
Done in public with many witnesses.

Someone suggested upthread his wife was young & attractive so he had no reason to stray.

BUT WHAT ABOUT HER???
Was this an option for her to move on.

There’s many spousal murders. Usual men murdering their wives tho.

It seems the motive(s) for this crime may be a lot more complicated than first thought:

Motives for murder: Slain lawyer's complex lifestyle muddies investigation
The Sydney Morning Herald
Dan Proudman
16 hours ago [as at 10:56 AEDT 26 January 2018{

‘The 65-year-old had been named in police intelligence reports as being on the periphery of several crime syndicates – all of which remained speculative and never confirmed – and was in the middle of a turbulent dispute with another Bankstown local.’

‘And it is those messy financial affairs, along with his complex lifestyle and business dealings, that has Strike Force Eugene detectives scrambling to identify a single, strong motive for the public execution of the 65-year-old as he sat at the Happy Cup cafe on Tuesday.’

‘"There are multiple lines of inquiry because of the co-operation of the community. As soon as they come in they are being investigated," Homicide Squad commander Detective Superintendent Scott Cook said on Thursday.

But Fairfax Media understands that none of those public tips has led to the possible identity of the gunman or those who may have hired him to kill Mr Ledinh.

In fact, detectives are still not sure whether the gunman had a personal vendetta against Mr Ledinh or whether he was a gun-for-hire brought in to perform the dirty work of others.‘

This could be how the shooter knew where he was going to be.

“I couldn’t believe it ... I just met with him this morning,” Mr Nguyen said. “We were texting and he said, ‘Come meet me for coffee.’”

I have been thinking about this. If he had his phone ‘location’ or ‘Find My iphone’ turned on is it possible it was ‘hacked’? Or could it just be that he had a regular routine? GPS tracker on his car? Or was he physically followed? Apparently, there are lots of ways to track someone’s movements and, if police are aware of that, you can be sure that criminals are.

Thanks for the update Seabreeze. From your link:

“Homicide detectives arrested the man about 10.00am today at Sydney International Airport as he was trying to leave the country on a flight bound for Bali.”

“Sources told the ABC the arrest was unplanned and police moved in when the man's passport triggered an alert, or what is known as an airport stop, as he passed through customs.”

So they're not going to tell us who?

This article names him.

A MAN who allegedly shot lawyer Ho Ledinh in western Sydney will today face court charged with murder.
Arthur Kelekolio, 38, was arrested by detectives investigating last month’s shooting of the prominent solicitor in Bankstown.
The 65-year-old father of five was shot four times on the afternoon of January 23 as he sat at the Happy Cup Cafe in Bankstown City Plaza.

wonder why the guy's passport was already on the radar... in re the "alert" as he passed through customs. My guess is this is going to be very complicated.

Wonder if he knew the victim or if he was hired?

I reckon they probably were suspecting him as the shooter and didn't have enough evidence and put an alert out and once they knew he was trying to flee they had no choice but to arrest him. Just IMO

Just as I thought. They had no choice but to arrest him now.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-02-...-accused-arthur-kelekolio-denied-bail/9445120

The ABC understands NSW Police had Mr Kelekolio under surveillance and were forced to arrest him earlier than planned after his passport triggered an alert at the airport.

He was questioned at Mascot Police Station for most of yesterday before being charged last night.

Detectives also raided an address Hammondville where they seized several items relevant to the investigation.

Mr Kelekolio now has a co-accused — a woman:

Woman charged over murder of Bankstown lawyer Ho Ledinh
The Sydney Morning Herald
By Jenny Noyes
21 March 2018 — 7:25pm

‘A woman has appeared before a Sydney court charged with the shooting murder of Bankstown lawyer Ho Ledinh.’

‘Analosa Ah Keni, 35, appeared before Burwood Local Court on Wednesday, having been charged with murder earlier this month.

A NSW police spokesman told the Herald that Ms Ah Keni, of Liverpool, was arrested on March 8 by police on the Hume Highway at Marulan in the state's southern tablelands.

From there she was taken to Goulburn police station and met with Strike Force Eugene detectives before being charged with murder.’
