Suspected human bones found at popular Adelaide beach

South Australian police say they have found two bones, believed to be human, on Maslin Beach, about 40 kilometres south of Adelaide.

A member of the public first discovered a bone while walking along the beach on Tuesday night, and alerted police on Wednesday morning.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Fitzgerald said forensic investigators had since analysed the bone, and believed it to be a human forearm.

"We suspect that that bone … is relatively recent, a couple of months up to a year old," he said.

Bone found at Maslin Beach identified

On Tuesday 16 February 2021 a bone was located by a member of the public walking on Maslin Beach, which was handed into police.

This bone has been examined and has been confirmed via DNA to be that of Missing Person - Jesse Corigliano-Quealey, 30 years who went missing from Maslin Beach on 9 October 2020. His death is not considered suspicious at this time.

A second bone was located by police at Maslin Beach on Wednesday 17 February, the outcome is yet to be determined with Forensic Science SA conducting further analysis on the bone.

This matter is being investigated by Southern District CIB who are preparing a report for the State Coroner.

Mr Corigliano-Quealey was last seen in public in Lonsdale on Thursday, October 8 last year about 12.15pm when he dropped his car at a mechanics.

Police believe he went home before his disappearance, as he left behind his wallet, phone, keys and car.

His mother, Jane Corigliano, told the Adelaide Advertiser last year that it was “out of character” for her son to leave everything.

“I was a bit worried about him (last time I saw him) because he was acting a bit bizarre … and he was a bit paranoid,” she said in November.

At the time, she said it had been “just terrible not knowing what happened to him”.
