Australia - Hundreds of kids to be tested for disease after childcare rape charge

These men have been caught. It's terrifying to think there are others out there doing the same thing right now. So glad they're banning phones and tablets but can't believe this wasn't already in place. I just don't know how they can stop this horrible stuff from happening. Background checks only flag people who have been caught. So many must fly under the radar.

"A grief-stricken father
has described the harrowing STI test his young daughter had to endure
after she was exposed to an alleged paedophile at a daycare centre.

26-year-old Joshua Dale Brown
has been charged with more than 70 child sex offences
including the sexual penetration of a child and producing child abuse material."

:(

"A horrified father
has admitted he had grave fears about his son's 'weird and creepy' childcare worker
three years before the alleged monster was arrested for sickening crimes against children.

But the devastated dad said
he didn't raise the alarm for fear of being branded homophobic
for speaking out against Joshua Dale Brown, 26.

Brown was described as socially withdrawn and unsettling around children by the father-of-one,
who said he always had a bad feeling about Brown.

He said Brown would regularly wear inappropriate 'skin-tight jeans and leather boots' to work in the childcare centre
and went out of his way to avoid the boy's dad."

As a childcare worker it always surprises me to hear of people who've been using their phones to do this. I've never worked anywhere that doesn't ban phones on the floor (mainly for ensuring workers aren't wasting time on their phones and not paying attention to children). I guess people can always sneak them out even when banned.

😳

Dear me. People need to trust their instincts and remove their child from the childcare centre if they think there's a creep working there.

This case is absolutely vile and heartbreaking.

Absolutely!!!!

Children are vulnerable.
They cannot defend themselves against monsters!

:(

It is adults' task & responsibility to keep them safe.

Be vigilant ALWAYS!

I'm simply speechless!

(I work in Education and we are very cautious because parents trust us to keep kids safe.
And believe me,
I'm MORE than sure there were red flags flapping 🚩🚩🚩 )

Exactly! Will this mean someone of authority have to pat each member of staff down to make sure they’ve not got a device on them? Or will each member of staff be trusted that, if they hand over “a phone”, they wouldn’t have another device???

Right exactly. Anyone intending on doing anything nefarious with a phone would just keep a sneaky second phone on their person (just ask all the high school kids who go to schools where phones are banned...). The only thing about a national ban vs individual centres managing phone use themselves, is that if an authorised officer showed up and caught someone on a phone, then specific penalties can be imposed. But otherwise, its no panacea.

the best thing centres can do to ensure abuse doesn't happen on their premises is to ensure staffing levels are adequate enough that no educator is ever left alone. Ever. For any reason.

There is a parallel situation here in the UK in connection with the "Grooming Gangs" scandal. Now that the extent of the issue is more widely known here, a number of people have come forward and said that they knew of the problem but felt unable to speak out earlier for fear of being accused of racism and Islamophobia.

Agreed. He could have been an agency worker covering a few weeks' holiday here, a few months' sick leave there. It would all have added up to frequent moves without necessarily raising red flags.

Also agreed. Here in the UK there are regular pronouncements about increasing male entry to such areas of employment as nurseries/baby and toddler childcare and primary school teaching. We need more male role models for young boys etc etc. Until something like this happens.
Women also molest and abuse children, but that gets a “well, someone has to take these jobs!” response.

Women are much, much less likely to sexually abuse kids than men though.
These rates will continue to rise with the level of 🤬🤬🤬🤬 access and normalizing extreme sexual behaviors.

Also there’s a lot of question to as if women are much less likely to sexually abuse kids or if they are much less likely to get caught because penetration isn’t as likely/the same and/or it occurs different.

The statistics are scary hi either way - It’s important to teach kids real names for body parts and about tricky people instead of stranger danger type stuff

This is the importance of the book ‘ The Gift of Fear’. That voice, LISTEN to it.

"Almost 200 distressed parents

are turning to legal help after the shock allegations of child sex offences by a childcare worker.

On Thursday,
almost 200 parents filled a room at Sanctuary Lakes Function Centre in Point Cook, in southwest Melbourne,
to discuss legal action.

The crowd were very emotional during the event
which had been organised by high-profile Victorian law firm Arnold Thomas & Becker.

Many broke down in tears and felt overwhelmed by the lack of information.

Some raised concerns there was a lack of accountability by childcare centres, the government and the police.

Spokesperson for Victoria Police said officers are working through further material provided over the past few days by childcare centres in relation to Brown’s employment history.

'All of the childcare providers are cooperating fully with police on this matter'."

Authorities failed to review accused childcare abuser's Working with Children Check

Childcare giant G8, which operates the centre, said it investigated and substantiated both of the reports.

A substantiated finding would typically trigger a review of the individual's Working with Children Check.

But it is believed the Commission for Children and Young People, which oversees the Reportable Conduct Scheme, used discretionary powers not to escalate Mr Brown's case as it was viewed as a lower-level incident, missing a key opportunity for authorities to review his clearance to work with children.
