Australia Australia - Janine Vaughan, 31, Bathurst, NSW, 7 Dec 2001

  • #301
Yes, a lot seems to be pointing to AJ .... quite possible about the drink spiking @Seriallyaddicted , h'mm, being a pharmacist he'd know a thing or two.
Are there any photos of him in short sleeves in any photos, has anyone seen one, would be interested to see if he has the hairy arms!
Re the stalking and notes left for Janine, I was thinking that was around the time she disappeared, I didn't realise till I saw the police report in The Australian that it was actually late 1998. I think AJ moved to Bathurst in 2000, wasn't it? But then again we don't know when he picked up that address in Piper Street (either bought or renting). Curious.
Also interesting to find out he had a bicycle at the time .... no number plate on that for scooting around.

I read on the facebook site someone said they had seen a photo and said he did have hairy arms.
Also I thought the notes were just a few weeks before she disappeared (last one saying that they were missing her) and she went to the police about it?

this articles says the notes were 18 months before she disappeared, was AJ around then?

I KNEW JANINE BUT NOT WELL

Ms Ronalds told the court Mr Jones moved to Bathurst around January 2000, working as chief pharmacist at Bathurst Base Hospital for a period in 2000.

He then worked in Cowra, Orange and Lithgow before taking up a position with Blooms Pharmacy in the [then] Bathurst City Centre. Ms Vaughan worked in the same shopping centre, managing the Ed Harry’s menswear store.

That's interesting about someone having seen a Facebook photo, would be interested to see that actually. I'm not on Facebook so I miss out on what's going on there, so thanks for that info.
Here's some of the stalking information.

Maybe he's in the clear for that then, being the note leaving stalker .... so many possibilities with this case.

Thanks for that information. Yes I think that clears it up that AJ wasn’t the person who left the notes.
There was also a person who left flowers and lingerie too I believe (??) from something I read, I think just before she disappeared.
They could be two totally different people and the stalker notes could be unrelated. Let’s face it, it’s likely the driver of the red car probably wasn’t stalking Janine at the pub as wasn’t he driving from the opposite direction to the pub then did a u turn and came back on her side? So the likelihood of stalker notes being the person who picked her up is low in my opinion.

Yay Happy listening :) Let me know when you are caught up :D
Okay, so I'm up-to-date now. This caught my interest, Kylie speaking at the start of episode "..... we could be looking at someone who's not even been mentioned yet." Hedley says, "Kylie is right, it must be a very viable possibility that somebody male, or perhaps even female, and not yet named as a key person of interest, not named or questioned during an inquest 11 years ago has eluded scrutiny the whole time." I found that pretty interesting, coming in at Episode 7. H'mm. Brings to mind Bradley Edwards flying under the radar all those years while the focus was on other suspects.
@k-mac yes, I didn't find that woman's story credible at all .... I mean, she could have called it in anonymously to CrimeStoppers at the time - no way she didn't know about the case till years later, not buyin' it. MOO.

I wonder if Bradley Edwards ( Claremont Killer ) ever lived over in NSW at all in the late 1990's / early 2000's?? I've not really followed that case closely...........

So many red herrings in this case.....:(

H'mm, not sure if he's lived out of WA, but yes, would be interesting to find out - he's definitely tall, with dark hair. Here's a snippet from today's news:
"To his family, friends and work colleagues, Bradley Robert Edwards was an unremarkable, quiet and at times awkward figure who was diligent at his job and a regular fixture at Kewdale Little Athletics."

I'm sure his life will be gone into in more detail now that the trial is over.
I don't recall it ever mentioned that he ever lived in Bathurst.

I was also thinking the other day about the similarities of the Claremont murders and Janine’s case. The circumstances of the disappearances are very similar and BE does match LB’s description. Should be fairly easy to rule him out, so I hope investigators on either case have thought about it and excluded him.

My order solely based on the comfit would be:
1. Jones
2. Briggs
3. Hosemans

What do you guys think? Does anyone know why this comfit doesn't seem to be heavily relied on or advertised?

Hey Loxoli, I'm starting to really wonder if it's none of them ....
Going back to LB's description, "He had an identification bracelet on his right wrist" .... what the heck is that, anyone know, from back in the day, identification bracelet from 2001 for a bloke?
She also said he was wearing a watch with a stretchy band ... was that also on the right wrist? If so, then he's probably left handed, could be a clue there. She also says what really stood out to her was that he had a bumpy nose, pimply .... do any of these guys fit that description? Was she talking a medical condition like rhinophyma? I mean, it's unusual to have pimples on your nose, possible health condition, to stand out to her from afar?
Spontaneous thought. The fellow seeming too big for the car, could that mean it was a hire car, someone on holiday who had met Janine a few times? Just a few Thursday night musings :)

Trish, one of the women who described AJ trying to get her to get in his car, knew him from the pharmacy and described him as having ‘pock marks like acne on his face and nose’.

I hadn't heard that, h'mm, that is interesting, thanks Loxoli, have only seen a couple of pics of him, hadn't noticed that .... there's certainly a lot to be sus about, with AJ, granted.
"Trish says that she telephoned the Bathurst Police Station in the days after hearing about the red car and left a message for the investigating detectives, describing the encounter she had with a man in a small red car. She says she never heard back from them." H'mm, she contacted them again in 2018 and then they showed an interest apparently.

I was thinking the same thing, it might be none of the above.

Re the bracelet, maybe like some here with your name on it.

mens bracelet 2001 identity - Google Search
Ah, thanks Tootsie, you'd think someone would remember a male wearing something like that associated with Janine, or matching the description of the suspect back in the day, wouldn't be that common I'd expect.

  • #318
Thanks Itsapuzzle, I don't think the bracelets were that uncommon back then.

I came across the description of AJ today and was quite surprised too, Itsapuzzle. I haven’t looked too hard yet but haven’t been able to find any msm that states that. It was in one of Trish’s replies to a post on the Facebook group, so directly from her. It’s a crucial detail, IMO, and I’m now wondering how many people have actually heard that AJ had these marks. Trish was answering someone who asked her what Janine was like and what was AJ like. So it wasn’t in a recount of the actual night AJ tried to get her in the car, but it was just how she described him in general. Very intriguing.
