Australia Australia - Janine Vaughan, 31, Bathurst, NSW, 7 Dec 2001

There was nothing in it that I didn't already know.

But it is getting the case into the news again so I'm hoping it might lead to someone coming forward with new information.

Sooo much was left out too ( mostly the many many police stuff ups ) .

But I guess it's hard to squeeze it all into a timeslot.

Does AJ still live in Bathurst?

This is a one on one crime. I bet that no-one else knows anything. I hope the secret doesn't die with the perp.

Jubes says AJ puts up red flags.

Lived in two places - school, and apartment in town - why
Two week interview - all was good
Four week interview - refused DNA swab, photo, car search
Couldn't remember what he did the day after Janine disappeared

Pastor says he can be an awkward man, but that doesn't mean anything. Pastor did not say "I know him, he would never do this"

(I am still ½ an hour behind)

Yep SA ( I don't think you have followed this case ) but AJ is a pharmacist who had conditions on his registration ( we don't know what for ) & now is no longer registered also ( had access to drugs )

Last place I know of him being was blue mountains area.

He's refused to talk to the family &has lawyered up & keep quite basically.

There were also concerning events where he tried to get women into his car ( it's all on the podcast )

Episode 6: The Pharmacist

Andrew Jones is a deeply spiritual man who came to Bathurst after studying pharmacy, travelling and working in a small hospital in Nepal, and studying religion in Sydney. When Janine disappeared, Jones lived alone at The Scots School in Bathurst in an arrangement where he had boarding house accommodation in return for giving up some spare time to coach the students. He worked in a pharmacy near Janine’s menswear store and he had bought clothing there. He drove a small red car, a Renault 19 series. And he became a significant person of interest in the police investigation. He has always emphatically denied wrongdoing and says police have ruined his reputation by unfairly targeting him. He insists Janine has never been in his car which police seized years later for DNA testing. Women in this episode relate their experiences with him - but Jones states that the encounters which they describe never happened.

If I had to guess, I would guess that Janine recognised the driver .. but didn't know him very well. AJ would fit that description.
Then he said get in out of the rain, I'll take you to the Ox. And she did.

I don't know how they will ever find her, or arrest the perp. Maybe someone will stumble on her one day. And maybe, just maybe, there will be some evidence there.

Unfortunately, it sounds as if the Bathurst people have damaged this for themselves by spurring that police integrity investigation, which essentially stopped the flow and credibility of the murder investigation.

Very, very sad for everyone. Sounds as if Janine would be 51 years old now.

I’ve always been surprised that one anonymous letter, with seemingly zero new allegations, was the catalyst for a police integrity commission. That seems like a low bar.

Honestly SA you have no idea what this family has been thru with the bungled investigations from the start, the show just glossed over them really IMO, I don't know how they can trust anyone. But they do have trust in the current taskforce which is good.

Kylie & Adam chase every lead, take every phone call, dig with their bare hands, it's just heartbreaking......:(:(:(:(

AJ also took a certificate at the Coronial Inquest , so didn't have to speak or incriminate himself

Having grown up in a country town, I know how the police can be mistrusted. Because they bust the locals for every little thing. And always know what the local lads and ladies are up to.

I remember about the lost knife ... when I tuned in here a long time ago. And I remember a few other things that weren't mentioned, but didn't listen to the podcast.

I'll just add that AJ fits the description that LB gave as a well of the guy who tried to get her in the car & his number plate was very similar also from memory

I remember at the time how everyone I talked to about the case was convinced that Brad Hosemans did it.

I was the odd one out in saying that I wasn't sure who did it so I ended up keeping my thoughts to myself.

It was just like the Azaria Chamberlain case all over again

TV Ratings March 8: Meghan and Harry interview gives 10 record night

Under Investigation with Liz Hayes was down from its strong premiere last week of 755,000, with the second episode of the series having 438,000 tune in. The show covered the disappearance of Janine Vaughan and was up against the last half hour of the Harry and Meghan Markle interview.

I’ve listened to the podcast put out by Hedly and The Australian. One thing that struck me is that there seem to be so many people who could have done this in that smallish environment. That’s kind of scary. There were at least three that had me thinking “it’s them”. But just not the evidence to say for sure. I loved the thoughtful, way the podcast was put together.

Yes Bathurst only had a population of almost 27, 000 in 2001.

As I expected the family are not happy at all with the Under Investigation show............

Hi Everyone,
In light of last night’s episode on the Nine Network’s crime series “Liz Hayes Under Investigation” we’d like as a family to clarify a few points.
From the onset, we were reluctant to be involved in this program for a number of reasons, one of which was we were unsure of how a short panel program could assist us given the complexities of the case.
We are disappointed with what was aired last night. There were a number of factual errors. The program was ill informed and poorly researched. The panel of “experts” was not across every aspect of the case, so therefore shouldn’t be speaking with authority.
We understand the mentality that ‘any publicity is good publicity’ and keeps Janine’s name out there, but it is only helpful when it is presented properly and factually.
We were also disappointed with Liz Hayes victim blaming our beautiful sister by describing her as ‘inebriated’. It was unnecessary, tacky and judgmental. Never should the level of intoxication of a woman who has suffered such a heinous crime be brought up in this way. Also, just to clarify we will never know Janine’s level of intoxication and if it had any influence on her decision to get into the red car.
We’d also like to call out the patronising tones used to describe our family’s own investigation. Most of the new information and leads that have come out publicly over the past six to eight months have been due to our own exhaustive investigation and those who have helped us. We certainly understand our sister’s case more than Channel 9’s panel so we do not appreciate being portrayed as if we do not know what is going on or that we can’t sort rumour from fact.
It is also important to remember, there is much more to Janine’s case than has been made available publicly.
We will never stop investigating Janine’s case. We are eternally grateful to all of the people who have come forward to us with information over the years and we hope that people will continue to do so. We are also working with a team whom we trust and we have a detective who we feel has the best interest of our sister’s case at heart.
We hope, in the future, if anyone is contacted by the media about Janine’s case, that they will first speak with us, so we can discuss whether it is in the best interest of finding justice. This will always be our sole priority.
