Maybe...maybe not...dont forget the first jury in the Cobby case had to be dismissed and the trial aborted due to sloppy reporting of Michael Murphys past

I think your thoughts & knowledge have relevance to this case, same same but different.
Please keep posting Paul.

Self harmed or karma?
Maybe a gorilla attacked him? :rocker:

The motives of organisers and marchers are noble - with the greatest respect we as a society need to focus our energies on electing MP's to a parliament which will not appoint left-leaning, PC judiciary. When any of the current judicial incumbents impose ridiculously lenient sentences and parole boards are dazzled by a prisoner's new found religion etc and grant parole, citizens should immediately voice their disapproval at the office of their State MP. They are paid to represent us.

.. respectfully snipped... unquote].

In my opinion this is a helpful message for concerned members of the public to act upon should they wish to something constructive: citizens could voice their disapproval at the office of their State MP. They are paid to represent us.
However, disagree on the marching - people have diverse ways of showing their concern. Showing concern is better than apathy. IMO it also raises awareness among people in communities that others are concerned which helps spread the message. Its an approach among other approaches. What would be helpful here would be for concerned citizens to write to their State MP's and complain about the judicial system. MOO.

You are right that people have different ways of showing concern and for some that may be joining a march.
This was discussed at quite some length much earlier in these threads - on the one hand everybody has the right to be safe on the streets any time of the day or night - on the other hand there are sick and disturbed people out there who do not play by the rules, also people under the influence of alcohol and other substances, so it is tempting fate in a way to assert one's right to 'reclaim the night', as the marches suggest. This is what worries me, that some may put themselves at risk by doing so.

For example, we have the right to go to a public beach and swim in the ocean, but sharks haven't signed up to the same bill of rights, so you're probably safer to go to a patrolled beach where there is someone looking out for you.

May sound far fetched but as I wrote in an earlier post, honest and decent men don't need marches or educating to learn that it is never acceptable to assault a woman, the others know and don't care or have some mental aberration which compels their behaviour.

JILL Meagher's accused killer was recovering in hospital after severely injuring himself while on remand at a maximum-security prison.
The Herald Sun understands Adrian Ernest Bayley, 41, had surgery during the day after injuring himself in what was thought to have been an attempt to take his own life.

Meanwhile, Ms Meagher's friends met at the Brunswick Green hotel to mark the 30th birthday she never had the opportunity to celebrate.

Meagher had planned a birthday party for herself at one of her favourite local pubs to enjoy what should have been a milestone in her young life.

Many of the ABC employee's closest friends still attended the event to honour Meagher. Parents Edith and George McKeon, brother Michael and husband Tom did not go. Mr Meagher has travelled home to Ireland.

Meagher's friends and family in Ireland have also marked what should have been a happy occasion with drinks in her honour.

Meagher's death sent shockwaves through Melbourne resulting in unprecedented displays of public grief, which psychologists have likened to those shown for Princess Diana.

All the men I interact with know that I will not tolerate any misogyny, sexism or disrespect in any way...if I encounter a situation I will get involved regardless of personal risk or inconvenience...I am in the gym every day and train at least three times a week in the art of Jeet Kune Do...I am also a former regular army infantry soldier...so I can back up my position if need be...bullies and cowards need to be put on notice that women are sacrosanct and their rights are protected.

I was merely pointing out the ramifications of posting an offenders details and how there was a precedent of a case almost being derailed...it just so happens that case was Anitas...all I will say publicly is that I am also aquatinted with the families of a number of other victims of crime and know Martha Jabour from the Victims of homocide support group...my activities in assisting people are not confined to this board...to say any more than that would not be appropriate.

I wonder if the fact that it was Jill's birthday had anything to do with his suicide attempt. I hope so. I'd like to think he is racked with remorse and feels unable to live with himself. I'd also like to think that he is going to live with this feeling for a long time.:jail:

I wish AB a speedy recovery so he can be returned to jail for close supervision pending the hearing of the charges against him.

Quite surprising that he managed to harm himself so severely when he was supposedly on close watch already.

Hypothetically, if MB never made it to trial it would save some in authority being held to account.

I appreciate that some men are proactive against sexism (and very thankful that I married one of them). I go to the gym 4-6 times a week and I've noticed that men have become a little more respectful over the past 10 years or so. There are still plenty of creeps, of course, and generally society leans towards being anti-woman, but the more men who speak out about sexism so that it becomes unacceptable, the better.

Absolutely...and it can creep into conversations and attitudes without people realizing it...it be as subtle as the conspiratorial look between a group of men when an attractive girl walks past thereby objectifying the woman...I know...I have done it myself in the past...Im not suggesting that an admiring glance or flirting be banned...Im talking about the aggressive nature of the conversations...I have also borne witness to "men" discussing intimate details of their sex lives with other blokes...and I knock that on the head as well...I enjoy the fact that none of them have the balls to say..."I will treat women anyway I like...anyway...what are you going to do about it"...because I will call them on their bullying behavior.
I simply refuse to tolerate it.
Heres the rule...dont talk to any woman in a manner that you wouldnt address your mother, sister or daughter.
I havent always been an angel but Im trying to make amends now...I was never over the top...just boofhead banter now and then when I was young.
We have to clean up our own backyard before telling anyone else how to behave.

We have to clean up our own backyard before telling anyone else how to behave.

While we're cleaning up backyards, how about parents of girls teaching them how not to behave like foul mouthed little scrubbers. I have heard some of the worst conversations between women discussing their sex lives and the worst swearing on peak hour trains from young women in school uniform. They make most of the boys sound like a group of nuns. Even in shopping centres and fast food restaurants, some of the conversations consist of 50% the F word, not to mention the phone calls with their besties. And don't get me started on FB and twitter, wall posts with language that most sailors wouldn't use.
Not saying the boys don't swear but it's difficult to train your sons to show proper respect to ladies when a lot of the time there are no ladies within coo-ee.:moo:
