I remember reading about a cigarette butt being found as evidence. The lack of lipstick doesn't surprise me. Was she still wearing lipstick fresh enough to come off on the butt? If I was out drinking with friends at that hour I would not be putting fresh makeup on before heading for home. I find mine rubs off on glasses I am drinking from and there would not be enough left to leave a mark on a cigarette butt, unless it was freshly applied.

I noticed what looked like blood on the cloth... How horrible. No wonder he gave the car such a good cleaning inside and out.

Did I read that the phone was found on his bed? And some of her clothes were there? How did the girlfriend not have some idea of what happened when the evidence was right under her nose?

I immediately thought of Jill's clothes when I saw the crime scene photo of the rubbish bin at AB's house.

Oh wow. I don't think this has been mentioned yet. AB tried calling a workmate around the time of the murder, and after burying Jill.

Mr Smith, who had been out with Bayley and his girlfriend on the Friday night, said on the Saturday he discovered missed calls from Bayley between 12.50 and 1.20am --- about the time Ms Meagher was attacked -- and between 5 and 6am, when police say Bayley buried her.

5-6am trying to shore up an alibi? Not realising his phone could be located perhaps. Maybe ringing to say he was in the city or had gone elsewhere? A whole lot of unanswered calls that morning.

I agree...he also told the landlady he had been out fixing pipes..at night...after drinking. god he has a tough boss who would ask him to do that...

Trying to find someone to pick him up? The footage of him at the service station with the person who gave him a lift were after six am I think.

The landlady seems like a very observant and watchful person, but she didn't mention anything about hearing him come back for a shovel?

I can't believe he can behave so normal after something so heinous. It really is chilling.

I expect the defense will try for manslaughter, saying it was accidental and not premeditated because he went back for the shovel, but the prosecution will allege that he killed her because when she reported the rape he'd be going back to jail for a long time. The police have the tapes to prove he was worried about that.

That CCTV footage is just haunting...

I shuddered when I saw him walk into the Quiet Man, that was my local pub many years ago, ironically it's an Irish pub. Lots of Irish folk work there and drink there!

Wow! That's a great video report. The attempt at a drunken kiss certainly explains why she didn't get in the cab :( I'll bet he's so remorseful he made the attempt.

Also, CCTV and witnesses would quickly debunk the opportunity for any shenanigans between Jill and her friend. If they go down this road then he is even fouler than I thought.. Poor Tom :(

Bayley needs to take responsibility IMO!

I don't agree with this type of reporting :waitasec:it is purely speculation... I have had a few moments in my life with greeting or saying goodbye to someone with an awkward kiss or hug( had one today in fact!), I honestly think there was nothing to this.

I also think Jill very well could have applied her lippy to go home, sometimes I do this too if my lips are dry, and to look a bit fab after an evening of chatting and drinking... a girls does re apply her lippy!

Thanks for posting the link Sleuthilicious. If you look just under the photo with the buckets it says...

"The laundry at Adrian Bayley's home. It has been alleged a mobile SIM card belonging to Jill Meagher was found in the washing"

Thanks Marly :) I saw that, but was wondering why a person would have so many filled buckets in their laundry. Probably completely unrelated and more my nosiness.

If you look at the state of the clothes on his bed I'd guess they all require soaking. So my guess is that there's a bucket for each days clothes and he washes them all on the weekends?

I've also been thinking today about him saying he apologised to her.. Do you think he raped her, then after it was over he apologised (apparently), because he said he felt bad and couldn't imagine how she was feeling, and maybe she punched him (the bruise on the nose), and he got angry and strangled her?

May not make sense because no one heard screaming, but I read somewhere someone said that they were assaulted once and just froze and couldn't scream... Perhaps Jill froze, but if there were three rapes, it was probably a prolonged attack..

Ah I hate this! I can't even imagine how her family feel if we all feel this bad. So happy we can all come on here and talk about it to get it off our chests..

So sad... She wanted a family with him.

I think he knew how to keep her quiet throughout the attack which relates to the Pathologists report. "He said he discovered haemorrhages and bruising on Ms Meagher's neck along with bleeding in neck muscles and fractures to her larynx"

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/la...an-ernest-bayley/story-fnat79vb-1226595139031

MO is that he fractured her larynx first so she couldn't cry out and then strangled her after he raped her to finish the job....:furious:

Whatever that monster did is vile enough to require a suppression order, due to the sensitive and distressing nature of the information. This man needs to go away permanently. Never to be released ever again. I hope JM's family were shielded from the whole story. If not, it must be so horrendous for them to hear that animal plead not guilty to the story he first provided to police. :furious:

Hi Everyone,
I'm a new member long time lurker and wanted to share with you an article I found today,
I was wondering where ABs Girlfriend was when he came home and changed and if they had interacted.

<modsnip>

At the 1.09 point of this footage you can see AB's car going in and then coming out of the laneway. I know it's dark but I wonder if the cameras caught any movement when he dragged Jill in there? And possibly of him leaving to go get his car and shovel.

Yes, they must've caught something happening of him pulling her in there! Hopefully this will prove she didn't walk in there with him...

I just feel the need to make a comment regarding Bayley's girlfriend. I have read next to nothing about her so I apologise if there is information which indicates that she know of his past or what he has recently done.

It is become quite apparent how manipulating Adrian Bayley can be and exactly how cool, calm and collected he seems only hours after killing Jill. News reports I have seen have stated that he often made comments to his mates about how he doesn't understand how people could treat women badly/hurt them and his landlady describes him as courteous. He is also described as being argumentative, temperamental, having a short fuse and not liking to be told that he is wrong.
The impression that I have got from reading parts of the police interview is that he is trying to portray himself as a 'victim' of this terrible accidental incident (and throwing in bits about 'poor jill's family' to gain further sympathy) and I would not be surprised one bit if it turns out that he has some sort of sociopathic/psychopathic or narcissistic personality - and my sincere apologies to any individuals suffering from the aforementioned disorders that may be reading this as I do not believe that they (personality disorder sufferers) are all criminals/bad. However it is also a known fact that such people can be extremely manipulating and can pull the wool over the eyes of even those closest to them. Furthermore, there are some out there that actively seek out partners who are easily susceptible and of low esteem as they are easy to manipulate and/or bully into submissiveness. Either way I do not think that Bayley and his girlfriend had been together for very long (I have no idea about how long) and I honestly doubt that he would have told her of his past; similarly I doubt that he would have told all his 'mates' about his past. Adrian Bayley has destroyed MANY MANY lives - his victims & their families, his OWN ex wives and children must be sickened despite not having anything to do with him; I am sure even his 'mates' and work colleagues are sickened and rue the day they met him. Dont forget he changed his name legally to hide his past, so I doubt that he is broadcasting it to everyone he meets.

I DO feel sorry for everyone affected by this vile man, including his girlfriend as I doubt that she knew what she was living with, and to her credit she identified him in the CCTV when the police interviewed her, she is now helping the police and she did break off her relationship with him. I believe, although I cannot remember where so i cannot post a link, that the landlady said that she saw the girlfriend hiding from Bayley when she came home from work after talking to the police/the day he was arrested. Come to think of it, that's pretty brave because if it was ME I would not have gone back to that house for anything but doing so may have alerted Bayley to something being 'up' so she really had no choice if she wanted to do the 'right thing' and not hinder an arrest. Anyway my point is if Adrian Bayley is the sociopathic manipulator that I suspect he is, he absolutely COULD live in a relationship with someone and they would never suspect his past.

Has there been a psych report/profile released anywhere? I did a quick google search but couldnt find anything?

Mr Smith said Bayley often talked about women. "He would say he couldn't understand how men could hurt women or be abusive."

I read that when he returned in the morning he requested she join him in their bed - she was in the spare room. Especially if she had a few drinks herself, could be easy to not hear what he was up to.
