Mr Rowe said JS had “been under long-term care for mental health problems” and had been prescribed a fairly high dose of antipsychotic drugs quetiapine and risperidone for many years.

Magistrate Robert Williams said he could order Justice Health to assess the inmate’s mental health needs and abide by any medication requirements.

But the magistrate said his prison status was up to Corrective Services NSW.

“I can’t make an order for that,” Mr Williams said.

The court was told the case, due back in court on March 18 in Penrith, involved some “complexities”.

Listening to the presser, a couple of other things of note ....

Police are searching for the firearm
There are some gaps in the vehicle timeline, which is why they want more CCTV and dashcam video and witnesses
He ws trying to do the concealment at night on the 13th
Was at Five Dock boat ramp from 7:20pm till 9:50pm
Between 1:30am to 1:40am (on the 14th) at Windsor boat ramp
2:25am to 2:30am at the Colo River jetty
2:37am to 2:46am at Lower Colo Road

Where is this info? Everyone is saying death at the property but I had not heard it from source. Thanks.

The police statement of facts, tendered at JS' first court appearance and quoted from by attending media, states CM was murdered between 7pm Tue and 10 Wednesday at Mt Wilson.
Speculation she may have been killed elsewhere arose from raid on the caravan park and reports of police having removed several bags of evidence from there.

Edited for accuracy, thanks @Estelle

I think we can see the writing on the wall.

This could explain why the accused didn't empty out the barrel, he felt squeamish about doing it, so he just left it, imo. That's not a normal reaction of a murderer who's getting rid of evidence as best they can. It was like he was following a train of thought and when it became too hard, he gave up. He allegedly gave 2 conflicting stories to police which follows the same theme.

Poor CM was let down by her carers, people ignore abnormal behaviour for various reasons, and it's the children in these instances that suffer the most! JMO

That goes some way toward explaining how they seem certain that CM was killed at the estate.
Gunshot(s) would likely be heard at the caravan.
There may be blood spatter evidence at the estate.

I wonder if the (AVO) neighbour heard a gunshot(s).

imo
From the same article

"Detective Superintendent Doherty said the barrel CM was found in is believed to be from the property and police believe there is a "high probability" she died there.
CMs mother KM has been reinterviewed and is being treated as a witness.
Detective Superintendent Doherty said KM was not believed to have been at the property at the time police allege CM was murdered."

"After leaving the Colo River that item (tarp covered barrel) was not on the ute when it stopped at another service station at Bells Road, Kurmond"

"CM's mother has been reinterviewed. She provided a formal statement last Friday. She's in alternative accommodation after leaving medical care. The formal statement at this stage corroborates the original statement she provided. We are treating her as a witness. There is no evidence at this stage that puts her at the property at the time of the murder."
(at around 8:20 in the presser)

"We've got a large number of police who are highly motivated. You don't get much more motivated than in the murder of a 9 year old."

"Small caliber firearm."

If JS was the subject of an AVO, then he is prohibited from owning a firearm for 10years after its expiry. So either illegal access to a legal firearm or anunlicenced weapon??

Wondering if it was a pellet or BB gun

Then perhaps arriving back at Mt Wilson around 4.30am with car lights off. Perhaps neighbour misjudged direction of travel or was misquoted.

Looking at this timeline, it would be possible to assume that the car that the neighbour heard at 4 or 4.30am on the 14th Jan, could have been JS returning to Wildenstein, and not leaving?

Sounds like the police may have a motive.

Q: Why would someone do this?
A: This is all part of the gathering of information for evidence for the court. We will be providing all that information to the court when we have to. Really, not long after CM's remains were found, JS was arrested and charged in a fairly short amount of time. He's got rights as far as his versions. I don't want to expand on that too much due to the courts.

Q: Is he a registered gun owner?
A: Not as far as I know.

Apparently that isn't automatic:

If an Interim AVO is made, the police will hold onto the defendant’s firearms until the AVO application is finished.

If the AVO application is withdrawn or dismissed, the defendant’s firearms licence will no longer be suspended. They may be able to get their firearms back from the police.

If a Final AVO is made, the defendant’s firearms will be disposed of or destroyed.

If an AVO is made for a specified period of time, the defendant may be able to apply for a new firearms licence 10 years after the date the Final AVO ends. They will need to show that they are a 'fit and proper person' to have a firearms licence.

The defendant can apply to get their licence before the 10-year period expires if the Court revoked the AVO. For more information, see Varying (changing) or revoking (cancelling) an Apprehended Violence Order.

If the AVO is made for an indefinite period of time, the defendant won't be able to apply for a new firearms licence unless the AVO is varied or revoked.

Consequences of an AVO

Can you please add the link to the press conference you reference? I can’t find these online. Thanks.

SouthAussie posted a question upthread about whether anyone might have heard the firearm. It's an interesting question - do we know if the shooting occurred outside or inside the house? A DM article recently stated that the complaint lodged by the accused's father some years ago, against the neighbour living next door to the family property, involved allegedly loud and frequent gunfire (the neighbour allegedly eliminating 'pests' - rabbits, foxes). So it seems possible that a shot would have been heard if outside? Of course, it doesn't necessarily mean that anyone heard it...
The link has the victim's name, but you can find it by googling the 'dark past' of the family property.

i saw that too and instantly wondered what that information was that they will be providing, whatever else they found in the autopsy?

Re: the sighting of CM on Thursday afternoon. Came from her mum. In an original version of a statement - there were a few versions. There were different versions of time frames.
So far it has been gleaned that JS was alone with CM on the Tuesday night.

"The evidence we have is that JS is the only person responsible for the murder, placing CM in the barrel, then placing the barrel on the banks of the Colo River. That's the information we have so far. The investigation is ongoing"
